SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 20 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Here are the results & scorers of todays Round 20 Sunday games.

GETAFE & RACING DE SANTANDER played a 0-0 draw.

(photo: Valladolid - Almeria_marca.com)

VALLADOLID played out a 1-1 draw with ALMERIA. CRUSAT scored
for Valladolid in the 12th min & ARZO equalized for Almeria in the
81st min. People not happy with new Coach Lillo at Almeria.

VILLAREAL lost more than just 0 - 2 to OSASUNA, its Coach Valverde
was sacked for this loss & the continued bad results. The goals for
Osasuna came in the 14th min & the 85th min thanks to JUANFRAN
with the "double".

Last placed team XEREZ surprised everyone with its 2-1 victory over
MALLORCA. The latter scored first via WEBO in the 23rd min & then
missed a penalty opportunity. CARLOS CANO (above) then scored
twice (52nd & 79th min) to secure Xerez the victory.

TENERIFE lost to REAL ZARAGOZA 1-3. JUANLU opened the
scoring for Tenerife in the 48th min, but his team lost control of
the match with Zaragoza scoring three via new "Winter" signing
SUAZO (77thmin via penalty), COLUNGA (79th min) & LAFITA with
a "cracker" in the 82nd min.

(photo: Duda scores for Malaga_marca.com)

ATLETICO DE MADRID fell back into its bad ways with a 0-2 defeat
at the hands of MALAGA. The mid-week semi-finals Spanish Cup
qualification paid its price on Atletico who may have gone into this
game somewhat over-confident; that & the lack of effective aim at
goal tonight lead to its poor performance.

DUDA scored early in the 3rd min to put Malaga ahead & LOPEZ
finished the business in the 71st min.

SEVILLA FC defeated VALENCIA CF 2-1 to sign that they a firm
candidates to put pressure on the current leaders FC Barcelona &
Real Madrid. ALVARO NEGREDO play a great match scoring for
Sevilla twice ( 21st & 69th min). Valencia attempted to comeback
& managed a goal by DAVID NAVARRO late in the 90th min, plus
were kept at bay by Sevilla goalie PALOP who has come into form.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 20 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

REAL SPORTING DE GIJÓN played a serious game to go down 0-1 to
FC BARCELONA in a controversial manner. The only goal scored by
Barça, & the winner, came from PEDRO who was off-side with the
pass coming from a free-kick taken from the wrong spot. SFS will
not enter the "local" debate on "suspected" favouritism, but the
continuing decisions being called of a dubious nature with Barça in
action does lift same eyebrows.

REAL MADRID managed to break a lossing streak at DEPORTIVO
that has lasted since 1991 & managed an impressive 1-3 victory
without Ronaldo, L.Diarra, V de Vaart & the still injured Higuaín
who did not make it on time to recover.

The highlight was the return to form of Real Madrid controversial
midfielder Guti who orchestrated the play of the night & possibly
the season with his set up of Benzema for Real Madrid´s 2º goal.
Watch the video & enjoy the magic:

GRANERO scored first for Real, with team-mate BENZEMA grabbing
a double. For Deportivo RIKI converted a penalty in the latter part of
the 2ºhalf.

ESPANYOL managed a very valueable 1-0 win over ATHLETIC DE
BILBAO thanks to a LUIS GARCIA goal. The game was "rough" &
stood out for the extreme nature of the game & tackles. Certainly a
place last night not adapt for boys.

INDOOR FOOTBALL - SPAIN DEFEATS PORTUGAL 4-2 FOR 5th EUROPEAN TITLE

SFS FLASHBACKS: SPAIN vs KOREA WORLD CUP 2002

It´s the 2002 World Cup, SPAIN is playing KOREA & playing well with
eyes on the final stages. However, two controversial referee
decisions – disallowing two legitimate goals – sends Spain home
missing the semi-finals with a cruel sense of injustice once again.

This is an ever present situation that we hope will be absent in this
years 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.

SPANISH CUP 2º LEG QUARTER FINALS: THURSDAY GAMES RESULTS

Two 2ºleg Quarter Final SPANISH CUP games were played tonight &
has given the names of the two teams that join Sevilla FC & Racing
in the semi-finals.

(Aduriz (Mallorca) laments a missed chance)

GETAFE lost 0-1 to MALLORCA with the goal scored by ADURIZ in
the 45th min. But it was not enough as Getafe won 1-2 in the 1ºst leg,
therefore the Madrid team goes through to the semi-finals.

(Diego Forlan celebrates his goal)

DIEGO FORLAN scored in the the 25th min & gave ATLETICO DE
MADRID
a 0-1 victory over CELTA DE VIGO & the pass into the
semi-finals. Atletico managed to keep its defensive system at an
acceptable level while Celta bombared the goal area in the 2ºhalf.
But Atletico hang on with tooth & nail to keep their "hopes" alive
to get something positive from what is turning out to be a disaster
season.

Therefore the Spanish Cup semi-finals look like this:
Sevilla Fc - Getafe
Racing - At.Madrid

SPANISH CUP 2º LEG Q/FINAL - WEDNESDAY GAMES RESULTS

SPANISH CUP 2º leg Quarter Final action gave us two teams that
move onto the semis.

OSASUNA lost 0-3 to RACING who came with a 1ºleg 1-2 advantage.
Goals came from XISCO, HENRIQUE & a beauty from young Spanish
Football sensation (& soon to be Real Madrid player)SERGIO
CANALES
. Watch his goal below:

SEVILLA FC went to DEPORTIVO with a 3-0 advantage, & although they
lost 1-0 with goal by Deportivo player BODIPO, they were never in
danger.

Spanish Cup action tonight with two more games
Celta vs At.Madrid
Getafe vs Mallorca

EUROPEAN INDOOR FOOTBALL: SPAIN INTO SEMIS APART FROM REFEREE BLINDNESS

Is this a goal or not?

The scene: Spain vs. Russia in the Q/Finals of The European Indoor
Football Championships. The game ends in a 0-0 draw & both teams
are forced to go into a penalty shoot-out. Spain manage to get into
a situation were Captain Javier Rodriguez only needs to score his
shot & thus win.

Javier Rodriguez shots and...

The French referee calls it a NO goal saying it hit the bar! Obviously
the Spanish team ask that they all look at the TV screens for the replay.

The final referee verdict: a NO goal. Amazed?

Luckily for Spain the goalkeeper stops a Russian shot & takes Spain into
the semi-finals finally winning 7-6 on penalties

CRISTIANO RONALDO: GOALS / FREE KICKS / RED CARDS - A CARL JUNG VIEW

Does Cristiano Ronaldo "let go", without wanting so, what most
humans on the planet attempt to keep under control; our"other side"?
Does this explain his "aggressive bursts" that lead to Red Cards?

Famous past psychiatrist Carl Jung examines the "double personality"...

All in good fun & with humour.

REAL MADRID: CRISTIANO RONALDO RECEIVES A TWO MATCH SUSPENSION

Below is the face of Malaga player Mtiliga - broken nose - after
Cristiano Ronaldo "fended off" the player in last Sundays Liga game
that lead to the Ronaldo direct RED CARD.

Below is some humour from Barcelona Sports paper "Sport" from its
cartoon section "Futbolitis":

Translated:
"Some publicity campaigns of Cristiano Ronaldo have been updated"

The Spanish Football Federation "Disciplinary Commission" (Comite de
Competition) has handed a TWO WEEK susupension to Cristiano Ronaldo.
This can be considered "lucky" as the rules state a minimum of between
4-12 weeks (voluntary or not) when the action causes injury to the
other player. What has "saved" Ronaldo is that the injury of Mtiliga will
keep him off the field 1 week (not 2 weeks), the player excused himself
to the player privately & publically & the enormous pressure exercised
by Real Madrid & its media "partners" (Marca, AS...& radio).

Real Madrid has already stated they will appeal this decision to
attempt to change the decision down to just a one game suspension.
SFS believes Roanldo & Real Madrid are already lucky with just a
2 game suspension decision.

Do you have an opinion?

ZIDANE-KAKÁ-HENRY-PIRES TOGETHER FOR HAITI CHARITY GAME AGAINST BENFICA (VIDEO)

Finally found the video on "YouTube".

Ex Real Madrid player - Zidane - with current Real player Kaká,
along with Villareal Pires & Barça Henry participated yesterday in
a charity match for the Haiti Earthquake victims. The
friendly was between BENFICA "All-stars" & a "Zidane All-star" line
up.
Final score 3-3

VIDEO OF CRISTIANO RONALDO GOALS & RED CARD AGAINST MALAGA ( 2010)

Apart from watching the two goals from CRISTIANO RONALDO in
Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Malaga, watch the RED CARD incident
around the 1, 02 min mark of this video:

Did it deserve a direct RED CARD? SFS thinks so, & you?

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 19 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Seven games played tonight to finish off Round 19 of the Spanish
League with FC Barcelona keeping its 5 point gap over Real Madrid
at the Top of the classification table.

One of the Best Center Forwards to have gone through Real Madrid,
Dutchman RUUD VAN NISTELROOY, was given a standing ovation
minutes before the Real Madrid vs Malaga game as he said goodbye
to the fans before flying off to Hamburg to join Stuttgart.

Those same fans witnessed a REAL MADRID 2 - MALAGA 0 victory
that included two goals from CRISTIANO RONALDO (36th & 38th
min),
along with a Red Card that the Portugues star received after
"slapping" a Malaga player in the face while fending him off midway
the 2ºhalf. A sending off that was "over exaggerated" as a yellow
card would have been more appropriate: Ronaldo missed next
weeks Liga match

Other details worth mentioning is the great work from Sergio Ramos,
Albiol & Guti who showed magic before been substituted in the 2º half,
& the worrying form of Kaká & Benzema, the latter is not taking his
opportunity to show that he deserves to start ahead of Higuaín.

GETAFE
defeated a terrible ATLETICO DE MADRID 1-0 to make
Club History with the best start after 19 Rounds & defeating it´s
City rival for the first time in their home stadium since being in
1º Division. MANU DE MORAL scored the winner for Getafe in the
38th min.

The only thing left to say about this game is that Atletico is
currently a "basket-case".

VILLAREAL defeated REAL ZARAGOZA 4-2 after the latter
attempted a comeback that did not happen. The goals for Villareal
came via CAPDEVILLA (3rd min), NILMAR (19th min), ROSSI
(25th min) & IBAGAZA (87th min). For Zaragoza ELISEU scored
in the 75th min & LATIFA lifted some hope with the second in the
82nd min.

XEREZ watched how OSASUNA got the victory towards the end with a
1-2 scoreline. Osasuna defender MONREAL put Osasuna ahead early in
the 9th min to see BERMEJO scored for Xerez in the 22nd min to
equalize, but CAMUÑAS grabbed the winer for Osasuna in the 83rd
min.

ESPANYOL managed to equalize thanks to OSVALDO in the 89th
min after VARELA scored first for MALLORCA in the 80th. A tough
match with the points being shared. Final score 1-1.

SPORTING DE GIJON lost 0-1 against RACING DE SANTANDER
after GEIJO scored in the 4th min. Sporting played better &
deserved more, but Football works in mysterious ways.

Another mystery was the TENERIFE 0 - VALENCIA CF 0 scoreline.
Valencia played well but could not finish off the job. They will be
disappointed as they let Real Madrid open a further gap on them in
the ladder.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 19 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Three games played tonight as part of Round 19 of the Spanish
League - "La Liga".

SEVILLA FC won by the minimum scoreline 1-0 ALMERIA thanks
to the 9th min goal by ALVARO NEGREDO. Important 3 points for
Sevilla FC that keeps them in the race for the top spots.

FC BARCELONA travelled to VALLADOLID & won 0-3, plus finished
the half way mark unbeaten, something which only 4 other teams
had done in Spanish Football History. The goal scorers were XAVI,
ALVES &
MESSI.

DEPORTIVO defeated 3-1 ATHLETIC DE BILBAO with goals from
FELIPE in the 49th min, JUCA 59th min & ALVAREZ in the 89th min.
The Athletic goal was an own goal from Depor defender COLOTTO.

The bad news for Deportivo was the fractured ankle injury of
Luis Felipe that will keep him out months.

ATLETICO DE MADRID: DAVID DE GEA

Ladies & Gentlemen here for your Football pleasure is DAVID DE GEA.

The 19 year old is the “2º” ATLETICO DE MADRID goalkeeper & is
coming into age putting pressure on the current team goalie, the
other young 21 year old, Sergio Asenjo. De Gea has been at the Club
since he was 13 & has already a U/17 Spanish Team International
title as European Champion. His outstanding performances against
Recreativo & Celta in the last Spanish Cup ties have catapulted
the youngster into the spotlight.

The people in the know assure that De Gea is destined for great
things & is considered the young pearl of Spanish Football
goalkeeping. We will be keeping an eye on his evolution & keep
hoping he stops many more opponents’ attempts to score goals against
Atletico.

REAL MADRID: SPANISH FOOTBALL "WONDER KID" SERGIO CANALES SAYS YES

The hot news today is that young 17 year old Spanish Football
sensation & RACING DE SANTANDER player SERGIO CANALES has
given his OK to sign with REAL MADRID. The father of the player
– also his representative - travelled to England to hear offers from
Chelsea FC, Manchester City & Arsenal, plus had offers from
Bayern Munich , FC Barcelona & Valencia CF on his table to
consider. This afternoon Real Madrid General Manager Jorge Valdano
has come to an agreement with the father of Sergio Canales for a 5
year contract.

The final piece of this story will continue next week as both Real
Madrid & Racing will sit down to set the transfer figure. The
speculated transfer price is rumoured to hover around the 6M€
mark, plus Real Madrid could allow the player a further year (or
two) at Racing as a loan so that the young player can continue
with his development & Football evolution.

Here is Canales; uses both feet & the skill work isn’t bad at all
:

ATLETICO DE MADRID: ARGENTINE EDUARDO SALVIO NEW PLAYER

Some may ask where the hell you have got yourself into. EDUARDO
SALVIO
, 19 year old forward from Argentine Club LANUS, has signed
with ATLETICO DE MADRID for the next 5 years.

This raises two questions (at least for SFS)
1. Doesn’t Atletico need defenders & not attackers?
2. Is this a sign that Salvio will be the replacement of Sergio Aguero
who many believe will be sold next year?

Either way, SFS welcomes the youngster to Atletico de Madrid &
wishes him all the best. SFS also hopes – as an Atletico supporter
– that he scores many goals & helps the Club stay out of the
relegation zone.

The way Atletico de Madrid is playing lately, perhaps they should
have signed this hand:

REAL MADRID: VAN NISTELROOY CLOSE TO STUTTGART

It’s not Stoke City, Tottenham, Liverpool nor West Ham, according
to the local sports daily "AS" the “scoop” is that the Club were
REAL MADRID Dutch forward RUUD VAN NISTELROOY will be
playing soon is STUTTGART.

The paper publishes that within the next 24-48 hours the German
Club will be negotiating to shut all the details (including the medical
exam) & take the Dutchman over to the Budesliga. The 33 year
old Real Madrid player finishes contract at the end of the season,
& without playing time sees his chances of going to the World
Cup in danger. The Spanish Club doesn’t wish to halt or be an
obstacle in Van Nistelrooy´s World Cup objective & has allowed
the player to leave before finishing his contract.

Having said this, it is not all over until the fat lady sings, although
this is a local journalist “scoop” the contract has still to be shut.
Stay tuned!

SPANISH CUP 1ºLEG QUARTER FINALS 2009-2010: THURSDAY RESULTS

The two remaining SPANISH CUP 1ºleg QUARTER FINALS games
were played tonight with the habitual energy & urgency of any typical
important tournament coming to its final stages. Each team knew

- especially the visiting teams - that a goal or victory was a huge step
half way to the semi-finals.

RACING DE SANTANDER managed to keep at bay a hungry OSASUNA
with two goals from COLSA (above) in the 63rd min & DIOP in the 84th
min. However, you can never presume that the opponent is "dead" until
the final whistle, as PANDIANI scored for Osasuna a valuable away
goal in the 88th min to keep the tie alive for the 2ºleg match.

Final result: 2-1

ATLETICO DE MADRID managed - & extremely lucky - a disappointing
1-1 draw over 2º Division Club CELTA DE VIGO. The home team has
to give thanks to its 19 year old goalkeeper DE GEA who saved his
team from defeat & from possibly saying goodbye to the Q/Final tie.

The Atletico de Madrid defence was terrible tonight with multiple
unforced mistakes from Perea that kept the "testicles" of the Atletico
de Madrid fans in their throats. It was from a defensive error that
Celta scored first in the 3rd min via TRASHORRAS. Luckly, Atletico
reacted & equalized via TIAGO with a header in the 11th min, but that
was all. AGUERO tried hard all night but being the only forward
upfront made it hard & frustrating.

Celta played hard to tie up the Q/final & nearly did so with numerous
chances that the At.Madrid goalie stopped, & lucky for Atletico, Celta
also missed. In the end the draw leaves the Q/Final tie wide open but
Celta go back home with an important away goal that gives them the
initial advantage. Atletico de Madrid will have to improve 150% &
attempt to fix a defence that is an authentic disaster.

SPANISH CUP 1ºLEG QUARTER FINALS 2009-2010: GETAFE & SEVILLA FC WIN

SPANISH CUP 1º leg Quarter final action tonight with two games,
with tomorrow closing the circle with the other two matches

scheduled.

GETAFE went to the MALLORCA "stronghold" to score two valuable
away goals to comeback to Madrid with a 1-2 scoreline.
MANU DE
MORAL
scored first for Getafe in the 50th min followed by MIKU in
the 68th. Mallorca managed to score 92nd min goal by CASTRO that
gives them some hope at least for the 2ºleg match.

SEVILLA FC travelled to the traditionally difficult DEPORTIVO
ground & cameback with the tie "virtually" wrapped up after
scoring three vital away goals. NEGREDO in the 26th min (above),
RENATO in the 67th min & NAVAS in the 69th min all did the job.
Final score
0-3.

UEFA: INTERNET USERS GIVE THEIR BEST 11 TEAM FOR 2009

The Internet web surfers of the UEFA page (uefa.com) have voted
their ideal 11 team for 2009. Here is their choice, which includes 6
FC BARCELONA players along with 3 REAL MADRID players:

Great for Spanish Football, however do you agree? Anyone missing?

REAL MADRID: AC ROMA DE ROSSI A PRIORITY?

A daily Spanish late night TV Football program, full of journos who
analyze the Spanish Football scene, has made their “scoop” go viral.
According to the show, they have first hand information that REAL
MADRID
has AC ROMA Italian International midfielder DE ROSSI as a
signing priority for next season. They go on to add that Real Madrid
technical staff considers the Italian as the ideal partner for Xabi
Alonso in the midfield.

Spanish Sports daily “AS” has picked up this news & developed it
further today, citing that De Rossi has been on the Real Madrid
agenda in the past. Last season, under ex-President Calderon, the
Spanish Club made an effort to sign the player but found a 40M€
price tag that shut the doors. The hypothetical arrival of De Rossi
would have to be accompanied by the departure of current
midfielders at Real Madrid, such as Gago & M.Diarra.

Said all this, SFS reminds you that it is rumour & that apart from
Rossi there is a long list of players on the Real Madrid agenda
for next season: Ribery, Silva, Aguero, Villa, Cesc Fabregas, Luis
Felipe…They can´t buy them all!

STEVEN GERRARD BEING PLACED IN REAL MADRID FOR 2010-2011

It is not the first time nor will it be the last that rumours abound
connecting the LIVERPOOL FC Captain & England midfield International
STEVEN GERRARD with the Spanish giants REAL MADRID. The latest
comes from the English paper “The Daily Mail” as seen below in the
online edition caption:

It is said that Gerard wishes to leave his Club because it cannot
guarantee the titles that a player of his calibre & quality should be
celebrating on a yearly basis. Liverpool FC is going through a
“horror” season after selling big names (Xabi Alonso), being knocked
out of the Champions League, the FA Cup & hovering at the middle
of the ladder in the Premier League without any titles this year
in sight.

Apart from Real Madrid who has asked about the player on numerous
occasions,Italian Club Inter Milan & English Club Manchester City are
also interested. I am sure that most Clubs will wait to see how
Steven Gerrard performs in the upcoming World Cup. The future
will depend on how well he “showcases” himself in front of the
World audience. Lastly, remember other names are being associated
with Real Madrid, like Franck Ribery, De Rossi (AC Roma), David
Silvia & Cesc Fabregas.

Stay tuned!

HENRY & RAUL HEADED FOR THE US?

The American newspaper “The New York Post” is solid on the
information, which has been picked up by local daily’s “Mundo
Deportivo” & “AS”. According to comments made by FC BARCELONA
French International THIERRY HENRY, the player sees favourable
the offer from the US SOCCER MAJOR LEAGUE Club RED BULL
NY
for next season. The Frenchmen ends his contract with Barça at
the end of the season & the US looks like his new destination.

Added to this, another Spanish “Liga” player is being enticed to
cross the Atlantic & play in the US Soccer Major League. REAL
MADRID
Captain RAUL is being connected with LOS ANGELES
GALAXY
. According to local sources, Raul has made the comment
that he sees with “good eyes” a possible move to the US.

Both players have entered into the twilight of their careers & have
no longer an assured regular place in their respective teams, a move
to the US maybe their final “swan song” before hanging up the
boots. Stay tuned!

REAL MADRID: WHO WOULD YOU SIGN FOR 2010-2011

Are you a REAL MADRID fans?

Spanish Sports daily “Marca” did a survey via the agency “Sigma”
with some of the current Real Madrid Club members (around 800)
to see which Football players they personally would like signed
next season. The candidates Franck Ribery, David Silva & Cesc
Fabregas were among the most cited & the survey was done outside
the member’s door at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on the 10th
of January. Here are the results:

(courtesy of marca.com)

SFS is interested to know your thoughts. Who would you sign next season?

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 18 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Seven games played tonight to wrap up Round 18 & the half way
season mark in the Spanish League, also known as "La Liga".

ATLETICO DE MADRID
pulled in another victory 3-2 over REAL
SPORTING DE GIJÓN. As usual there was the habitual moments
of nerves & defensive mistakes that gave the home fans the
"excitement" they are accustumed, & fear as well.

DIEGO FORLAN scored first in the12th min, but a shocking mistake
by Atletico goalie Asenjo gave Sporting a penalty in the 33rd min
that CASTRO scored & equalized. From here Atletico lost control
& was "overrun" by Gijon who could have sentenced. But the 2º

half saw Atletico get back after ASSUNCAO scored a ball which
Sporting claimed was over the line which Forlan headed over. With
Atletico on a roll young IBRAHIMA scored Atletico´s 3ºrd goal in the
66th min. As expected the nerves went into Atletico & Sporting
grew in play & managed their second via MORAN in the 90th min.

Final notes to add; Forlan was injured with a ankle sprain & TIAGO
debuted midway the 2ºhalf to show some positive signs of his class.
Lastly, SERGIO AGUERO was again massive with may chances &
even hit the "bar"; he was unluck not to have scored a couple.

MALAGA grabbed a 1-0 win over GETAFE & three very needed
points. It was BAHA (above) who scored the winner in the 84th
min.

RACING DE SANTANDER & VALLADOLID shared the points with a
1-1 draw. The goal for Valladolid came thanks to an own goal by
Racing defender PINILLOS in the 19th min. From here Racing fought
back to later see "Spanish Football´s 18 year old Wonder Kid",
CANALES equalize in the 59th min with an extraordinary cool as
a cucumber "ballon" into the back of the net ( image above). Its
no wonder Real Madrid has the "kid" virtually tied up for the future.

ALMERIA cameback to equalize 1-1 against TENERIFE after the latter
got ahead in the 2ºnd min via JUANLU. It was not until the 60th min
that GOITOM managed to save the day for Almeria & at least force
the both teams share the points.

MALLORCA stay unbeaten in their home ground after a brilliant win
over DEPORTIVO 2-0. The action happened in the 2ºhalf, with goals
from MARIO SUAREZ in the 46th min & CASTRO in the 52th min.

VALENCIA CF
consolidates the 3ºrd place of the Liga ladder with a
solid win over VILLAREAL 4-1 in tonight "Regional Derby". Valencia
took control early via BENEGA in the 6th min. From here the game
turned into a "rough affair" with some serious tackling that would
evenly lead to a series of yellow cards & a red. DAVID VILLA began
is personal show with a goal from the penalty spot in the 28th min
to latter score another at the last minute & his teams fourth. Earlier
SILVA scored his teams third in the 56th min.

Villareal got a consolation goal via NILMAR in the 61st min, to
mask somewhat that they were fairly & well beaten.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 18 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Three games tonight were celebrated as part of Round 18 with FC
BARCELONA
securing the top spot of the classification ladder at
the half way season mark. So much so that they have opened a
further gap over rivals Real Madrid who lost their away match.

OSASUNA defeated RCD ESPANYOL with two goals from JUANFRAN
in the 7th min & another a minute later by PANDIANI. The 2-0 result
was defeated with tooth & nail to insure the victory.

REAL MADRID went on the field with its star line-up of Ronaldo, Kaká &
Benzema all together to see how they finally lost 1-0 to
ATHLETIC
DE BILBAO
.

The damage was done early in the 2nd min when FERNANDO LLORENTE
headed their only goal from a corner after Bilbao hit the post twice with
a sleeping Real Madrid looking on. The shock lead to a reaction which
included posts, close calls & some great Bilbao goalkeeping that kept
the
equalizer out.

Apart from the Real Madrid bad-luck & the numerous missed chances,
there existed a sense of deception with Benzema & Kaká sadly out of
form, along with Cristiano Ronaldo dropping in his usual level.

Said all this, At Bilbao deserve merit as they fought with all their
might, especially their goalkeeper, to keep Real Madrid at bay.

Questions raised in reference to Karim Benzema!

FC BARCELONA got their Spanish Cup "revenge" over SEVILLA FC
with a brilliant second half performance that gave them a 4-0 victory.
The win also opens a 5 point gap in the classification table over Real
Madrid who lost.

The "can" was opened in the 49th min when Sevilla defender ESCUDE
put in an own goal from a Pique play. From here it was all Barça &
its midfield genius Xavi who orchestrated the lift in quality. Xavi
set up PEDRO for him to score in the 70th min, to latter see MESSI
drill two goals in the 85th & 91st min.

Barça return to shut some mouths & clear some doubts, if they
existed at all.

SPANISH RALLY DRIVER CARLOS SAINZ TAKES DAKAR 2010

Ex – Spanish Rally World Champion CARLOS SAINZ has taken the
“thorn” out of his backside by winning his first & this year’s 32 º
edition of the DAKAR (raced in Argentina/Chile) Rally (Car Edition)
along with his co-driver Lucas Cruz.

The Spaniard defeated Volkswagon team-mate Al Attiyah who
used all shorts of “unusual” tactics during the whole race to
attempt to win Sainz. The Spanish can now add this prestigious
title to his long career, especially after failing in past editions
due to bad luck when he had the title very close at hand. It
seemed that Sainz was destined to never win this race as a
“long-tail” had grown that the driver was dammed by bad luck.
Now the Spaniard can eliminate this story from his professional
trayectory..

SPANISH CUP 2009 / 2010 LAST 16 TEAMS 2º LEG THURSDAY GAMES: ATLETICO DE MADRID & MALLORCA GO THROUGH (SEE VIDEO)

ATLETICO DE MADRID made up for their 3-0 loss to RECREATIVO
in the 1º leg with an epic & historical comeback to win tonights
2ºleg
encounter 5-1. Historic because never before had Atletico comeback

3 goals down in the Spanish Cup, epic because they went down 10
men
after Assuncao was given a Red Card, plus he made a defensive
mistake 2 minutes earlier that gave Recreativo the "virtual" pass to
the Quarter finals.

In the classical Atletico script of suffering until the last moment,
SERGIO AGUERO was vital & the "man of the match". The Argentine
scored twice ( 23rd & 62nd min) of which both were important
psychological boosters. ULFALUSI scored the second goal with a
header in the 23rd min, & SIMAO scored the opener in the
20th min
& scored the last & most important 5th goal from a perfect free-kick
in the 80th min that brought stadium down. Absolutely amazing...

With Atletico up 4-0 in the 71st min CARMONA scored for Recreativo
after a "typical" defensive mistake from Assuncao that put all of
Atletico´s hard work down the toilet. It was the worst 10 minutes of
the match were the home side could have lost it. However, now with
the post - result, it was a "glimp" in the global picture,a game that
was a "cracker" & had your balls in your throat for 90 mins. MAGICAL
night for Atletico!

kick):

Similiar events occured at MALLORCA with a 2ºhalf comeback that
gave them the pass to the Quarter finals. RAYO VALLECANO went
into this game with a 2-1 victory from the 1ºleg & scored first via
PITI in the 45th min to clear the road onto glory.

But Mallorca scored 3 goals via VICTOR who scored twice (50th &
60th min) & SUAREZ in the 92nd min who was the heroe of the
night to give his team victory & the key. Final result 3-1

SPANISH CUP 2009 /2010: SEVILLA FC 0 - FC BARCELONA 1 (SEE VIDEO) - 2º LEG

Although FC BARCELONA won their 2ºleg clash of the SPANISH
CUP
0-1 against SEVILLA FC, they were eliminated on aggregate
2-2 with Sevilla FC enjoying their away goal advantage.

Part of the victory for Sevilla FC & consequently knocking out
Barça was due to Sevilla goalkeeper PALOP who stopped
everything. Watch this video of the match summary:

SPANISH CUP 2009 /2010 LAST 16 2ºLEG GAMES RESULTS: FC BARCELONA KNOCKED OUT

SPANISH CUP last 16 teams 2º leg action continued tonight with the
big news being the end of the road for FC BARCELONA. It had to
happen sometime, no team can win forever, not even Barça.

SEVILLA FC won the 1ºleg 1-2 & FC BARCELONA needed to put in
two goals, but the 2ºleg final result was a 0-1 victory for Barça that
was not enough. Barcelona did go all out putting their best team full
of stars, XAVI scored in the 64th min to raise hopes, but Messi hit the
post, Ibrahimovic missed a sitter & Sevilla goalie Palop did an
amazing save; typical Spanish Cup action.

GETAFE overran MALAGA 5-1 to win 6-3 on aggregate. Amazing
display with SOLDADO scoring twice, along with RAFA, LEON
& PAREJO. For Malaga the scorer was JUANMI

RACING DE SANTANDER
kept a 0-0 scoreline against "Real Madrid
killers" ALCORCON to see the latter be knocked out as they lost
2-3 in the 1º leg. Alcorcon should be proud to have achieved what
they have in the Cup.

DEPORTIVO drew 2-2 with VALENCIA CF to eliminate the latter.
Valencia started perfectly with two goals from ZIGIC in the 1º half,
but fell apart in the 2ºhalf to allow the home team to score twice.
FELIPE & JUAN RODRIGUEZ were the local heroes to take the
elimination 4-3 on aggregate to their advantage.

It was an uphill battle but MASOUD scored OSASUNA only goal to
eliminate HERCULES 2-2 on aggregate but with the 1ºleg away
goal advantage rule. Final 2ºleg score
1-0

Tomorrow more Spanish Cup action with two games.
