SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2009 / 2010 - ROUND 18 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Three games tonight were celebrated as part of Round 18 with FC
BARCELONA
securing the top spot of the classification ladder at
the half way season mark. So much so that they have opened a
further gap over rivals Real Madrid who lost their away match.

OSASUNA defeated RCD ESPANYOL with two goals from JUANFRAN
in the 7th min & another a minute later by PANDIANI. The 2-0 result
was defeated with tooth & nail to insure the victory.

REAL MADRID went on the field with its star line-up of Ronaldo, Kaká &
Benzema all together to see how they finally lost 1-0 to
ATHLETIC
DE BILBAO
.

The damage was done early in the 2nd min when FERNANDO LLORENTE
headed their only goal from a corner after Bilbao hit the post twice with
a sleeping Real Madrid looking on. The shock lead to a reaction which
included posts, close calls & some great Bilbao goalkeeping that kept
the
equalizer out.

Apart from the Real Madrid bad-luck & the numerous missed chances,
there existed a sense of deception with Benzema & Kaká sadly out of
form, along with Cristiano Ronaldo dropping in his usual level.

Said all this, At Bilbao deserve merit as they fought with all their
might, especially their goalkeeper, to keep Real Madrid at bay.

Questions raised in reference to Karim Benzema!

FC BARCELONA got their Spanish Cup "revenge" over SEVILLA FC
with a brilliant second half performance that gave them a 4-0 victory.
The win also opens a 5 point gap in the classification table over Real
Madrid who lost.

The "can" was opened in the 49th min when Sevilla defender ESCUDE
put in an own goal from a Pique play. From here it was all Barça &
its midfield genius Xavi who orchestrated the lift in quality. Xavi
set up PEDRO for him to score in the 70th min, to latter see MESSI
drill two goals in the 85th & 91st min.

Barça return to shut some mouths & clear some doubts, if they
existed at all.
