FIFA FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL 2014 FINAL THREE CANDIDATES
FIFA - France Football has announced the final three candidates for the 2014 Golden Ball Award. No surprises to most Football observers & followers:
In fact, the winner will be assured to be hammered with debate & controversy. FIFA President Blatter & UEFA President have already publicly said that they feel a German (a World Cup Winner) should be given the prize this year, obviously citing Neuer. But if the criteria is the "Best Player" for a whole session - 2014 - then Cristiano Ronaldo is on another level to both Neuer & Messi. Let me remind you that back in 2010 Spain won the World Cup, & with the current arguments of Blatter & Platini, the winner then should have been Andres Iniesta (or Iker Casillas). It was Messi which was indeed very surprising to everyone at that time & caused plenty of debate.
As Franck Ribery said recently, the Golden Ball Award has become more political award full of economic interests which sways the vote & points to the eventual winner.
In any case, the official winning name will be handed in & announced the 12th of January 2015.

- Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
- Lionel Messi (Argentina)
- Manuel Neuer (Germany)
I personally would not have included Lionel Messi, but his last few performances has put him back into the frontline.

EUROPEAN GOLDEN BOOT AWARD | CRISTIANO RONALDO, LUIS SUAREZ OR LIONEL MESSI
The English Premier League season finished with Liverpool FC forward Luis Suarez the top "EPL" goalscorer for season 2013-2104 with 31 goals. However, this weekend the Uruguayan International was not able to score & thus was not able to shake off Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo who also has 31 goals this season. Both players are currently locked in the top spot of the "European Golden Boot Award" season 2013 - 2014 with Cristiano Ronaldo still with a Liga match to play next weekend.
The Real Madrid forward did not play last weekend nursing a muscle/knee complaint & with the UEFA Champions League in mind. However it is strongly speculated that Cristiano Ronaldo will play against RCD Espanyol next weekend in order to try to score & become the solitary leader in the "Highest Goalscorer in Europe Award" & win the "Golden Boot" in solitary.
Third place Lionel Messi also plays next weekend against Atletico de Madrid in the Liga decider & he has currently 28 goals. The Argentine would need to score 3 goals to equal both Ronaldo & Suarez or 4 ( or more ) to overtake & win the "Golden Boot", as long as CR7 does not score.
Stay tuned as we will soon know the winner/s of the 2013-2014 European Golden Boot Award in 6 days.
Current European Golden Boot Award standings:
1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, SP) = 31 goals = 62 POINTS
Luis Suarez ( Liverpool FC , ENG ) = 31 goals = 62 POINTS
3. Lionel Messi ( FC Barcelona , SP) = 28 goals = 56 POINTS
4. Diego Costa (Atletico de Madrid, SP) = 27 goals = 54 POINTS
5. J.Soriano (RB Salzburg, AUT) = 31 goals = 46 POINTS
6. C.Immobile (FC Torino, ITA ) = 22 goals = 44 POINTS
7. D.Sturidge (Liverpool FC, ENG) = 22 goals = 44 POINTS
8. A.Finnbogason ( Heerenveen, HOL) = 29 goals = 43,5 POINTS
9. Lewansowski (B Dortmund, GER) = 20 goals = 40 POINTS
10. Y Toure (Man City, ENG) = 20 goals = 40 POINTS

MANCHESTER CITY EYES LIONEL MESSI ?
I have said it here a couple of times, the future of Argentine star Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona for next season is unclear. There is a continuing "hum" for Barcelona & the Spanish Sports Press that suggest the Barça player is not at all comfortable.
Lionel Messi is not firing on all cylinders, that is, at the level that we have been accustomed to during the past seasons. He looks unhappy, concerned & at times with a "far away" stare that suggests his mind is elsewhere. It is no secret that the "tax avoiding" accusation has touched the player along with his family. Plus there are insinuations that things are not as "smooth" in the Barça dressing room as some may think & let us all to believe.
The French Club Paris St Germain has apparently already made contact & let known to the Argentine their mega-offer. Speculation puts a salary around the 25M€ / season mark, amazing but as I say, rumour. There is another Club with a keen interest which is Manchester City & according to local Sports papers may go ahead & pay the contract release clause, a astronomical 200M€ to get the player over. This is also speculation but a consistent one that is sounding regularly.
FC Barcelona have already said they will renew the contract of Messi with a substantial jump in his salary. However, there is the question that does arise, where will FC Barcelona find the money? There are comments that insinuate that the bank account at Camp Barça is not too healthy. This would suggest that perhaps some Barcelona directives may look favourably in selling their star if it means depositing 150M€ + figure. Publicly no Directive would admit this although privately some could see it as a "golden opportunity".
Stay tuned!

REAL MADRID TRYING OUT THE FUTURE "NEW MESSI" CLAUDIO ÑANCUFIL
Lets take note of the name, Claudio Ñancufil. In his country Argentina the 8 year old "kid" is already a "Football Star" being called the "Mapuche Messi". Mapuche is the ethnic region of Argentina from which the boy was born & lives.
The "wonder kid" is in Europe to try out with European Clubs such as Atletico de Madrid, FC Barcelona, French Teams & then back home with River Plate. Currently the young player is trying out with Real Madrid & has been given the full red carpet treatment. Claudio is apparently happy & has recognized that his idol is Cristiano Ronaldo.
I suspect that the parents will soon decide ( along with the interested Club ) what is best for the prospecting future professional.
Good luck to young Claudio, will be keeping an eye out on this young promise.

FIFA GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2013 LIST OF 23 CANDIDATES
French Magazine "France Football" has released the list of 23 candidates eligible for this years "FIFA GOLDEN BALL Award". The surprise is that there are only 2 Spanish born players & both from FC Barcelona: Andres Iniesta & Xavi Hernandez.

Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Múnich)
Luis Suárez (Liverpool)
Thiago Silva (PSG)
Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
Robin van Persie (Manchester United)
Xavi (Barcelona)
FIFA will reduce this list down to 3 candidates on the 2nd of December & will announce the winner the 13th of January 2013 in Zurich. The current hot favourite is Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich with perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo a close second. However, Cristiano Ronaldo may be getting himself "whipped off" with his public comments & actions of late ( e.g. not attending UEFA Best European Player ceremony ), comments on UEFA & indirectly Platini over Portugals next World Cup qualifier & FIFA President Blatter comments that he prefers Messi. We all know that the FIFA Golden Ball has a heavy weight/element of Marketing & "pulling" the "FIFA/UEFA political band-wagon".

The prestigious American Financial magazine "Forbes" has printed their list of the "Highest Paid Sportsmen in the World". In the Top 10 appears Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Drew Brees etc., as one would expect. But what about Football - Soccer - players ?
The first & highest Football player on the list is now retired, that is David Beckham with 35, 9M€. Newly signed to FC Barcelona Brazilian youngster Neymar is in Nº 68 spot with earnings of 15,6M€. Although I have a feeling this will be changing soon & the player will make a big jump up the list in coming months.

THE 10 MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN WORLD FOOTBALL
Our friends at "Transfermarket" have written an interesting article on what they consider the "10 most valuable players in World Football". But what is the meaning of value? I have looked up a few sites of reference & there are numerous definitions that cover every facet of life ( political, cultural, religious...economic). For such a simple 5 letter word we find a varying amount of interpretations. Here are three I have selected:
Lets assume for the sake of simplicity that value is the amount some actor is willing to pay according to the benefits the asset can generate ( in Football, victory & titles , which is in turn to generate more money). Thus the following figures are close to accurate numbers given experience ( victories, titles & money generated ) & actual commented offers.
FC Barcelona player Lionel Messi tops the list, I think mosr will agree. The highest Spaniard is Andres Iniesta & second is Cesc Fabregas both from FC Barcelona. Spanish Football in total has 5 out of the 10 on the list.
- Economic value is a measure of the benefit that an economic actor can gain from either a good or service. It is generally measured relative to units of currency, and the interpretation is therefore "what is the maximum amount of money a specific actor is willing and able to pay for the good or service"?
- The value of an asset deriving from its ability to generate income.
- The value or worth that a product or service would bring to someone if sold.
The Top 10 most valuable players are:
Lionel Messi: FC Barcelona €120,000,000
Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid €100,000,000
Andres Iniesta: Barcelona €70,000,000
Wayne Rooney: Manchester United €65,000,000
Ramadel Falcao: At. Madrid €60,000,000
Cesc Fabregas: FC Barcelona €55,000,000
Neymar: Santos €50,000,000
Edinson Cavani: Napoli €45,000,000
Sergio Aguero: Manchester City €45,000,000
Robin van Persie: Manchester United €45,000,000
