Popular voting obviously as it has a "short memory", leaves out names like Kroos, Casemiro, Suarez...just to name three.

Suppose debate is always inherent.

FOOTBALL - SOCCER | BEST 11 OF 2013 | READERS CHOICE

As 2013 "races" to its end & towards the New Year, so do the lists of "Best of " sprout about throughout the media & other reference sources. With Football its the same & fans, websurfers, readers & online media put up surveys, get together their experts into a panel & some may even stick a finger up in the air.

This last is not the case with Spanish Sports paper "Marca" which have called onto their readers to pick the "Best 11 Team of 2013" by voting on their website. From the 150.000 votes received the following is their 2013 Eleven:

European Soccer
courtesy of "Marca"

Courtois ( At Madrid ), Lahm ( Bayern Munich ), Sergio Ramos ( Real Madrid ), Thiago Silva ( PSG ) , Alaba ( Bayern Munich ), Ozil ( Arsenal ) , Ribery ( Bayern Munich ) Bale ( Real Madrid ), Messi ( FC Barcelona ) , Lewandowski ( B Dortmund ) & Cristiano Ronaldo ( Real Madrid ).

From the perspective of this Blog ( about Spanish Football ) it is interesting to see that the voters have "placed" only one Spaniard: Sergio Ramos. A sign of the possible "decline" of Spanish Football ? No Xavi, no Iniesta, no Pique , no Xabi Alonso this year...four vital elements of the Spanish National Football Team, all of whom - except Alonso - are not in their best form of late.

Nice to see young At. Madrid goalkeeper Courtois who obviously is destined for bigger things, & of course those present every year in recent times; Messi & Cristiano Roanldo.

Stay tuned, as more "Best 11 ..." lists will begin to appear in coming days & weeks.

THE GREATEST 11 PLAYERS - COACH OF ALL TIME | WORLD SOCCER

Football Magazine "World Soccer" has asked the question, which is the "Best XI" of all time & the "Best Coach" ? To get an answer, the magazine, asked all its journalist correspondents  around the globe. The answers & voting were varied but there was overall consensus that gave the following players & Coach.

World Soccer

Yashin; Cafú, Bobby Moore, Beckenbauer, Maldini; Zidane, Cruyff, Di Stéfano, Maradona; Pelé & Messi.

Coach: Alex Ferguson.

Fabulous & awesome names indeed. I personally miss George Best ( Manchester United ) but this is my opinion. The only player actively playing Soccer professionally is Lionel Messi.

You can see all the names voted with the Magazine.

FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP "BEST XI TEAM" | THREE SPANIARDS

FIFA has released its habitual post Confederations Cup "Best XI Team". Obviously the "Best XI" is full of Brazilian players having Brazil won the tournament. The second placed Nation, Spain, has three players in the line-up in Andres Iniesta, Sergio Ramos & Fernando Torres.

SPANISH FOOTBALL | LIGA | BEST XI FOR SEASON 2012- 2013

Interesting poll done in Spanish Sports paper "Marca" that had the participation of +150.000 online users. They answered a simple question, "pick your Best Liga team for season 2012-2013".

The final voting & results seem to my judgement coherent & very accurate with what was seen during this Spanish League season.

According to the votes, the "Liga XI" for season 2012-2013 are:

  • Courtois ( Atletico de Madrid)
  • Carlos Martinez ( Real Sociedad )
  • Sergio Ramos ( Real Madrid )
  • Iñigo Martinez ( Real Sociedad )
  • Jordi Alba ( FC Barcelona )
  • Busquets ( FC Barcelona )
  • Iniesta ( FC Barcelona )
  • Ozil ( Real Madrid )
  • Cristiano Ronaldo ( Real Madrid )
  • Messi ( FC Barcelona )
  • Falcao ( At.Madrid)
Coach : Diego Simeone ( At Madrid )

Fabulous side with great players. Do you think this poll left out someone?

SPANISH FOOTBALL DOMINATES L`EQUIPE BEST XI 2012

French Sports daily "L´Equipe" has put on their front cover their choice of the "Best XI for 2012" & in doing so mentions Spanish Football. Eight members of the elected line-up play in LA LIGA & come from the two big Spanish Clubs: FC BARCELONA & REAL MADRID

Spanish Football

Jordi Alba, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta & Messi are from Barça, while Casillas, Ramos, Xabi Alonso & Cristiano Ronaldo come from Real Madrid.

The "outsiders" ( no punt intended ) are Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), Kompany (Manchester City) & Ramires ( Chelsea FC ).

SEVEN SPANISH PLAYERS IN "KICKER" IDEAL EURO 2012 TEAM

European & German Football magazine "Kicker" has published their Ideal 11 Euro 2012 Team. Their are 7 Spanish Football players, 2 Portugues , 1 German & 1 Italian in the "Kicker" team.

The Spanish names are Iker Casillas, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Andres Iniesta & Cesc Fabregas. The other names are Pepe & Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Sami Khedira (Germany) & Pirlo (Italia).

THE INTERNET READERS BEST 11 SPANISH LIGA PLAYERS FOR 2011-2012

More than 73.000 people voted on Spanish Sports online channel "marca.com" for what they believed to be the "Best 11 Players" of the Spanish Football League season 2011-2012.

Spanish Football
Marca - Best 11 season 2011-2012

As you can see the list is dominanted by Real Madrid & FC Barcelona players, with the exceptions being Javi Martinez (At.Bilbao) & Falcao (At.Madrid). A list that does not depart to much from reality as all the voted players have indeed put in a grand season.

SPANISH FOOTBALL PLAYERS | BEST XI TEAM BY ITALIAN SPORTS PAPER

The Italians have elected their "Best XI Team" for 2011 via the Sports paper "Gazzetta Dello Sport". Below is a neat diagram that shows it all with names/Clubs. As you can see its packed with players (coach) from SPANISH FOOTBALL Clubs. Question that comes to my mind: Schweinsteiger better than Xabi Alonso?

UEFA | IDEAL 11 TEAM CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2010 - 2011

UEFA has handed in their "IDEAL BEST 11 TEAM" for this season 2010-2011 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE . The list is dominated by Manchester United & FC Barcelona players, as one would expect, plus two from Real Madrid & representatives from Shakthar & Tottenham.

But the notable surprise is the absence of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, whose place has been give to veteran Spanish Football player, ex - Real Madrid & now Schalke 04 forward RAUL.

Spanish Football Player RAUL now with Schalke 04

The internet voting,  along with the opinion of the UEFA picked experts,  have prized the following 11 players as the best in Champions League:

Van der Sar (Manchester United)
Srna (Shakthar)

Pique (FC Barcelona)
Vidic (Manchester United)
Marcelo (Real Madrid)

Özil (Real Madrid)
Iniesta (FC Barcelona)
Giggs (Manchester United)
Bale (Tottenham Hotspurs)
Messi (FC Barcelona)
Raul (Schalke 04)

UEFA: INTERNET USERS GIVE THEIR BEST 11 TEAM FOR 2009

The Internet web surfers of the UEFA page (uefa.com) have voted
their ideal 11 team for 2009. Here is their choice, which includes 6
FC BARCELONA players along with 3 REAL MADRID players:

Great for Spanish Football, however do you agree? Anyone missing?

FC BARCELONA PLAYERS DOMINATED "DECADE" TEAM

The English paper “The Sun” has given their “Best 11 Team of the
Decade
”. The news from this end is the inclusion of PUYOL &
the ex & current Spanish League players in the majority that have
played for FC BARCELONA.

Here is their full list:

Buffon; Cafú, Cannavaro, Puyol, Maldini; Zidane, Figo, Ronaldinho,
Cristiano Ronaldo; Messi y Henry.

As with any list, it is very subjective & SFS has to question the
“credibility” of a media source as “The Sun” whom lacks real criteria
in most of its formats. Having said this, it is something to be proud
about & gives Spanish Football another approval that adds more
prestige to its main Football League & teams.

Obviously, there is an intrinsic arguement that is higlighted; that many
who form/ed part of Spanish Football also had "glory" days in Italian &
English Football. This is not debated.
