REAL MADRID - BAYERN MUNICH NEGOTIATING FOR TONI KROSS?

Spanish Sports paper "Marca" has gone out this morning with the story that Spanish Football Club Real Madrid CF & Bayern Munich have began negotiations over German International Player & 24 year old midfielder Toni Kross. This "rumour" has been ongoing for months & it seems - according to the paper - that it is slowly becoming a reality.

Real Madrid target.

The Bayern Munich player has one year of contract left & he has refused to extend it telling his current Club that he desires to play elsewhere. It is in the interests of Bayern Munich to sell Kross this season because not to do so allows the player to go next season to the Club of choice free of a transfer fee. As of the 1st of January 2015 the player becomes a free agent.

Real Madrid has the negotiation advantage & it is written that they have made a 25-30M€ offer to Bayern Munich for Toni Kross. The Player & Real Madrid seem to have come to an agreement already with the Spanish Football Club offering a 5 year contract with a 5M€/season salary.

As I always add we will all have to wait until official notice from the Clubs before jumping to conclusions. The player will not make an announcement - or a visible move - while concentrated with Germany in the World Cup where his National squad is attempting to keep advancing & trying to win the title.

Stay tuned!

PS. Competition Sports daily "AS" publish all the contrary. They write that the players representative Volker Struth denies any negotiation with Real Madrid or any other Club. He claims Kross will decide after the World Cup.

JAMES RODRIGUEZ LINKED TO REAL MADRID? IT IS MORE LIKE FALCAO

James Rodriguez, 22 year old French Club Monaco & Colombian International forward is currently the sensation of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil & of World Soccer. The player has currently 5 goals & if his National Team can keep on advancing & he keeps on scoring James Rodriguez will eclipse Neymar & Messi.

The comments given to Spanish Radio "Cope" post-match after defeating Uruguay 2-0 has set on fire the World & Spanish Football speculation-rumour treadmill. James Rodriguez said:
"I would love to play in Spain,"..."It would be a dream to play there - it is the best league in the world."
When pressed by Spanish Radio "Cope" journalist..."I like more Real Madrid than Barcelona".

Spanish Football candidate

Immediately the World & Spanish Sports press began making hypothetical scenarios about a James Rodriguez & Real Madrid link & possible signing effort by the latter. Plus the fact that the player s representative is Jorge Mendes, the same as for Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Coentrao, Di Maria ...etc., has also added fuel to comments. Although in Football - & with Real Madrid - nothing is impossible those chances are slim, if not non-existent at this moment.

The current real interest by Real Madrid for their forward line is apparently another player & a team-mate not at the World Cup. There are strong rumours & indications that point directly to Radamel Falcao for next season.

Stay tuned!

LOOKING FOR A STRIKER | FC BARCELONA - REAL MADRID CF

Leaving aside the Luis Suarez "biting incident" & his severe FIFA sanction, the news is that FC Barcelona remains interested in signing the Uruguayan striker. The Barcelona based Spanish Sports papers are very adamant that Luis Suarez has given his OK to FC Barcelona & that the latter now only needs to begin negotiations with Liverpool FC. Barça from their end wish to take advantage of the Luis Suarez "biting rage" & force Liverpool to lower their initial asking price of around 85M€ to around 50M€. The Spanish Football Club feels that Liverpool FC is in a "must sell" phase after Suarez sank his teeth into Italian defender Chiellini.

However, other Football observers claim that Luis Suarez is NOT the Nº1 priority of FC Barcelona for their forward line. It is claimed that Napoli & Argentine International Gonzalo Higuain is the main target. It is claimed that Barça retired Captain - & now Club Nº2 Football Director - Carles Puyol shut an agreement with Higuain weeks back, & that it was now a case between Clubs to negotiate. Plus, Coach Luis Enrique & Club Directives want to keep Messi "happy" after losing "best mate" Pinto & Cesc Fabregas, with his current Argentine team-mate.

Luis Suarez, with this news piece, is the alternative for Barcelona, & some Club Directives are questioning the signing option with all the fracas associated with Suarez.

FC Barcelona

The other option for Luis Suarez to play in Spanish Football is Real Madrid. The Spanish Football Club is patiently watching events as their main objective is to renew the contract of Karim Benzema. The Club is satisfied with their current forward line-up of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale & Benzema (the BBC). There is talk that Alvaro Morata may leave for Juventus FC & if so Real Madrid may sign a "young talent" instead of a consolidated striker.

It is rumoured that neither Coach Ancelotti nor Cristiano Ronaldo feel comfortable with the possible arrival of Luis Suarez as his inclusion may ruffle feathers at the dressing room level. Said this a new forward has entered the picture - again - in the name of Monaco & Colombian International Radamel Falcao

Falcao seems to be confident that Real Madrid will make an effort this summer to sign him for next season. It has been written that Falcao has told Colombian (squad) friends that he is really close to Real Madrid for next season.

In any case,  there is plenty of time to shut all these deals. I would think that the mayor Clubs will allow time to expire & thus make nervous players & their respective Clubs. Once nerve set in, the pretending Clubs can better leverage their position & bargaining strength to get their way.

Stay tuned, very interesting weeks ahead for Higuain, Suarez & Falcao.

FC BARCELONA WINS ACB LIGA TITLE | SPANISH BASKETBALL

FC Barcelona won tonight the Spanish Basketball League (ACB) after defeating 83-81 Real Madrid & taking the "Best of 5 games" Final with a final 3 - 1 aggregate. Rough & tough game with controversial referee decision along with Real Madrid Coach Pablo Laso being expelled from the game. Very tension as Real Madrid needed to win to stay alive.

FC Barcelona player & Captain Juan Carlos Navarro was named MVP of the Finals, while tonight Barça player Tomic was outstanding with 22 points.

Real Madrid will be very disappointed as they finished the regular season on top of the ACB ladder. But the team went from more to less in the latter part of the season. Real Madrid felt their loss in the Euro-league final & has not did recovered since from the blow.

Congratulations to Barça for winning the ACB Basketball League Title.

WORLD CUP 2014 BRAZIL | THE FLOPPING RANKING | SPAIN Nº 28

Do you know what "Flopping" means in Football? I had no idea until I came across an article in the "Wall Street Journal". According to the definition give by the prestigious American journal, flopping is the amount of time a player spends on the ground "faking" an injury in order to halt play.

Curiously this same media source has undertaken a study to rank the National Teams players after 32 matches. I think amazing as I did not think Football, sorry Soccer, was a readership priority for the WSJ. Perhaps they are taking advantage of the World Cup hype & especially the national popularity of Soccer with the USA team progressing in the competition, something which is growing everyday.

World Soccer World Cup 2014

According to the above study - table - the Honduras players are the Nº1 Football "Flopping" - "Floppers" - Nation after 32 games of the World Cup with 7,40 mins of "wasted time" per player. They are followed by the players of:

2. France 7m 19s
3. Chile 6m 58s
4. Nigeria 6m 25s
5. USA 6m 24s
6. Iran 5m 26s
7. Russia 5m 16s

Brazil which looks like they spend more time on the ground, especially Neymar, is Nº 18 with 3,18 mins every time he or a team-mate drops. Spain Team players are in Nº28th position with 1,49 mins everything a Spaniard falls.

Last placed are the Bosnia players who just spend 24 seconds on the ground.

Interesting & curious piece of World Cup 2014 news.

THE LUIS SUAREZ BITING INCIDENT A PLAN TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL FC?

Everyone knows that Uruguayan International & Liverpool FC forward Luis Suarez wants to leave English Football. Football insiders comment that Suarez included a "listen to offers" clause on his renovated contract with Liverpool last year precisely to allow his wanted exit.

There is one place that Luis Suarez wants to play, & that is in Spanish Football. The only two Clubs that the Liverpool FC forward aims at are Real Madrid CF & FC Barcelona. The former has shown interest but is debating about Karim Benzema & if Suarez is really needed. Real Madrid is currently in tough negotiations with Benzema to renew contract & perhaps right now is not the best moment to make a move on another forward. FC Barcelona has thus taken advantage of the "vacuum" left by Real Madrid & has approached Suarez showing interest to sign him for next season. The "big brake" is the 85M€ transfer figure that Liverpool FC places on their player, thus Barça wants to included players like Pedro, Tello & Alexis into the operation.

In Barcelona the local press are already claiming that Luis Suarez has given his OK to FC Barcelona, however other Football insiders claim that the real desire of the player is Real Madrid CF & Suarez maybe pressuring the latter to finally make a move & get out of the shadows to proclaim their interest.

Luis Suarez bites Chiellini

Whatever the real reasons or negotiation strategies going on, the 85M€ price figure is a serious handicap for Luis Suarez & both Real Madrid & Barça have the advantage to wait until the 30th of August to make a move if they decide to do it.

But what about the "biting incident" with Italian defender Chiellini? It´s the third time, a repeated "disgusting" & unsportsmanlike behaviour that has capture the Worlds attention & seriously blemished the reputation of the player. Obviously, the mentioned Spanish Football Clubs will now reconsider if Luis Suarez is a risk, in fact FC Barcelona has already discussed this issue internally.

But there maybe another explanation, a far fetched theory that although unlikely due to its risks cannot be discarded. What if the "biting incident" was "planned" to ease & accelerate his exit from English Football & from Liverpool FC. The reaction to the Suarez-Chiellini biting incident has been savage in the UK with hard criticism from the media, Football players & general public opinion. Liverpool FC now sees Luis Suarez as a "problem" for next season & are more receptive to help in the players exit than to hold on to & extend possible negotiations. Another season of English Football for Luis Suarez would be unbearable, thus an exit is now a certainty.

Will all this lower that initially asked 85M€ by Liverpool FC? If both Real Madrid CF & FC Barcelona wait, it may well force a lowering of price to get the player out of England & Liverpool FC as soon as possible. A far fetched theory?

I leave it for your thought & realise its "risk level" makes it unlikely. Apart it is very Machiavellian & I doubt that Luis Suarez or his representative (the brother of Bayern Munich Coach Pep Guardiola) would have the nerve to think it. But what about the pretending Clubs? As an idea?

While the Football World awaits the FIFA decision on Luis Suarez, what the "incident" in itself has achieved is to guarantee that the Uruguayan will not be in England next season, nor will he be playing at Liverpool FC. The Football asset for Liverpool FC has now become a "hot potato"  & Real Madrid CF & FC Barcelona know it.

LATEST: FIFA has just handed in an exemplary sanction for Luis Suarez:
  • 9 match suspension
  • 4 months banned from any World Football field
  • 80.000€ fine
This could halt any idea of being signed by Real Madrid & FC Barcelona, as the Club that signs Suarez cannot count on his services until November.

Uruguay will appeal the FIFA decision.

If the above Luis Suarez "biting action" was a plan it has backfired enormously. The "X-File" theory goes out the window. Stay tuned!

REAL MADRID EARNS 57.4M€ WINNING UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

UEFA has released today the revenue distribution to Clubs for the Champions League competition season 2013-2014. The winner Real Madrid got the biggest UEFA payment with 57.4M€ ($78.3 M).

REAL MADRID CF

French Club Paris Saint-Germain was second in the revenue share, getting 54.4M€($74.2 M) despite losing in the quarter-finals stage of the Champions League competition. The reason for this is that PSG has big share of French television rights money. However, UEFA is withholding 20M€ ($27.3 M) as a fine for overspending.

Spanish Football Club Atletico Madrid, finalist & sub-Champion, was third with 50M € ($68.2M). UEFA reports that Manchester United, Juventus FC, Bayern Munich, Chelsea FC & FC Barcelona (41,97M€) all earned around 40M€ ($54.5M).The other Spanish Football Club Real Sociedad received 17,28M€, not bad at all.

Lastly, UEFA concluded that the 32 teams which qualified for the group stage shared a total of 904M€ ($1.23 billion) in prize money and bonuses. As you can see & understand why, most European Clubs strive to qualify for Champions League & once in attempt to remain at all cost. Participating (& winning) in Champions League is a priority objective & an obsession for some Clubs. The rewards are obvious & very, very lucrative.

SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM, WHAT NEXT?

The Spain Football Team is back home after a disastrous World Cup 2014 campaign. Their elimination from the Group phase was humiliating & their poor exhibition is still an unknown. But the question now is, what next?

After some reflection & deep analysis some people have to assume responsibility  & embark on making some deep changes & determined decisions . Current Selector & Coach Vicente Del Bosque is meditating his future & there are local critics & pressures that suggest he move over. Some players will not return starting with Xavi Hernandez & more than likely David Villa, but others have a cloud over their International future like Xabi Alonso & Iker Casillas. Others like Pique, Cesc Fabregas & Jordi Alba have been put in doubt due to their undisciplined behaviour & may pay the price of spending sometime in the "Football Desert".

Whatever the decisions are it is a reality that there will be an injection of younger players who are currently knocking at the door for a place. Players like David De Gea, Carvajal, Bartra, Koke, Alberto Moreno, Ander Herrera, Isco, Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez... the list is long as Spain has its future well assured.

SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM YOUNGSTERS

Spain can begin its "revolution" as of the 4th of September when that have their first official Football date with a Friendly International against none other than France in Paris. Excellent moment to beginning setting the foundations of the future Spanish National Football Team & set course onto the right direction.

Four days - 8th of September - later Spain begins its Group qualification campaign in the European Nations Championship to be held in France 2016 with a game against Macedonia at home. In fact after the Macedonia match Spain will have another 4 Internationals until the end of 2014 including another International Friendly against Germany on the 18th of November in Vigo (Spain).

As you can see top opponents & important qualifiers to begin testing players & moulding the future of the Spanish Football Team. I have no doubt that Spain will be back on Top of World Soccer as there is another generation of young Spanish Football players in the wings ready to takeover & show their class.

Stay tuned!

MANCHESTER UNITED ABOUT TO TIE ANDER HERRERA

Looks as if this time around Manchester United are serious. The English Premier League Club left last season hanging Athletic Club Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrara until the last minute. News is that Manchester United has not forgotten the young Spanish talent & will deposit within hours the 36M€ contract release clause that liberates the player to become a new "Red" for next season. Manchester United has accelerated the operation because as of the 1st of July the contract release figure rises to 40M€.

Manchester United transfer 2014

For Manchester United this is an exciting addition to their team. The Spanish player is on the verge of entering the Spanish National Football Team after years of rising up successfully the International junior levels & acquiring the needed experience at Club level. For Bilbao this is a huge loss for them as they have to decide who can substitute this key player. Bilbao has the added "problem" that they only contract "Basque" players thus limiting their search & options. The Basque Club has the opportunity to play Champions League next season & they need a competitive squad if they are to have any chances of success.

Herrara joins another Spanish International Juan Mata as Manchester United continue their renovation plans under new Coach Van Gaal who looks for youth & obviously promising talents.

SPAIN SAYS GOODBYE WINNING 0 - 3 AUSTRALIA | WORLD CUP 2014

Last match for Spain in this World Cup in Brazil with a 0 - 3 victory over Group B opponents Australia. Both teams leave eliminated from the competition with Spain at least finding today its "lost Football" & winning back some lost pride, while Australia is a young side that is building up experience with the Asian Cup - which they host - coming as their next big objective in the near future.

Last game of David Villa for Spain

Spanish National Football Team Coach Vicente Del Bosque made some changes & gave Reina, Juanfran, Albiol, Koke, Cazorla, Torres & David Villa a run from the start. It was a "special" moment today for David Villa his last game with the National Team. Another player who has announced his exit from the National Team, Xavi Hernandez, sat it out on the bench with muscle problems.

Andres Iniesta who was the "Best man on the ground" played his 100th International for Spain & was the architect of his teams goals. Luckily Iniesta will continue but there are question marks over the future of other players like Casillas & Xabi Alonso. Although my intuition suggests both will continue giving service at least up to the European Championship in France 2016.

World Cup 2014

It took Spain at least 15 mins to find its rhythm as Australia pressured in the midfield but slowly Jordi Alba with Villa came alive with Iniesta the director of the orchestra. The first goal came in the 36th min when David Villa knocked in a Juanfran pass, the second came in the 69th min from Torres from an Iniesta pass & the third came in the 82nd min from MataGood match & at last goals for Spain, but all too late as they are to catch a plane back home tonight.

Lastly, special mention to David Villa as written above leaves the Spain Football Team as the "Highest Historical Goalscorer" with 59 goals & with 97 International Caps. Great service from a great Football player. Same goes out to Xavi Hernandez who leaves as well & leaves a huge space to fill, without doubt Spains Best ever midfielder .

For Spain now its time to get home, disconnect & examine what went wrong to rebuild & think about France 2016. There are plenty of young Spanish Players at World class level waiting for their chance.

ANDRES INIESTA TO REACH HIS 100TH GAME WITH SPAIN

The Spanish National Football Team plays its last match this afternoon against Australia in Group B of the 2014 World Cup. A match that gives the team the opportunity to "clean" their disastrous image & win back some lost pride. It is also a "trap" as Australia are super keen to defeat the reigning World Champs & go back home on a high, while Spain psychologically is low with some internal problems flowering over these last days.

According to Spanish Team Selector & Coach Vicente Del Bosque he is going to give some "lesser" players a chance to have a run & at least participate in this World Cup edition. Already some names have been mentioned that will sit things out: Casillas, Pique, Xabi Alonso, Xavi Hernandez & perhaps Cesc Fabregas. All these players have been in the spotlight these past days as elements in the Spain Team failure, or that perhaps they end their time with the National Team. All speculation off course, as Coach Del Bosque has not officially given his starting XI & the "ugly atmosphere" within the Spanish camp is rip with daily rumours.

One player who looks like definitely getting a run is ANDRES INIESTA. If he does start he will receive his 100th International Cap with Spain. Fine achievement & well deserved as he is possibly one of the few players that has not been put in doubt during this World Cup. Congratulations crack!

Spain Football Team picture.

Players currently with most International Caps with the Spain Football Team:

.1. Iker Casillas 156 games
.2. Xavi Hernandez 133
.3. Andoni Zubizarreta 126
.4. Sergio Ramos 118
.5. Xabi Alonso 113
.6. Fernando Torres 109
.7. Raul Gonzalez 102
.8. Carles Puyol 100
.9. Andres Iniesta 99
10. David Villa 96.

REAL MADRID EYES MATEO KOVACIC OF INTER MILAN

Spanish Football Club Real Madrid wants to reinforce its midfield for next season, a player with a similar profile as Xabi Alonso. Names have been published in the front pages of most Sports press such as Pogba & Arturo Vidal of Juventus FC, Ramires of Chelsea FC & Verratti of Paris St Germain. The first two have dropped in the list due to their high prices &/or Juventus does not wish to sell, familiar situation with Ramires & Varratti although the last is still possible & has not been discarded totally.

Real Madrid Candidate

There is a new name, 20 year old Croatian International & Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Spanish Sports paper "Marca" informs that Real Madrid has made an initial offer to Inter Milan between 20-25M€. The problem is that Inter considers the player a vital piece in its attempts to rejuvenate its squad. Everything indicates that it will be hard for Real Madrid, & if the player puts in a great World Cup his price will sky rocket.

Stay tuned!

SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM | THE WOUNDS REOPEN

Spanish International midfielder Xabi Alonso has always been a "no bullshit man". Characterised by his straight to the grain views & opinions his post Chile comments has caused bad feeling within the Spanish Team Camp.

When Xabi Alonso was asked by media, before leaving the "Maracana Stadium" after losing its second Group match 0 - 2 to Chile & thus being eliminated, to why he thought Spain sank & played so badly, the player said that basically the Spanish squad had lost its "hunger" & "motivation" apart from being physically under prepared.  Nothing controversial if you watched both the Holland & Chile games, it was obvious that Xabi said some honest truths.

Straight after his press appearance team-mates Iniesta & Torres came out to say the "contrary" claiming that the hunger "to win" was always present. Today in press Conference Santi Cazorla joined them to claim that the "motivation to win" is present.

Spain Football Team

Spanish Sports journalists, who are following the Spain Football Team & have close access to players & staff, go further in their press stories to say that Xabi Alonso is isolated & that he practically has a non-existent relationship with Xavi Hernandez, Busquets, Pique , VIlla & Iker Casillas. One source claims a "player" made the comment that "Alonso has always gone his own particular way". Selector & Coach Del Bosque - as seen in the above picture - had some words with Alonso at training were we assume he too voiced his "disappointment" with his post-Chile comments & for perhaps not following the "team line". Saying the team is not in form & not motivated obviously affects the job of Del Bosque.

Already the there are direct (outside) effects & ripples, as Real Madrid team-mate & personal friend Alvaro Arbeloa place a tweet that said, the the truth hurts while lies are more useful to save admiration. Remember Arbeloa was dropped from the Spanish National Football Team for this World Cup , & insiders claim it was because players from the "Barça clan" had "black-banned" the player.

Harsh accusations but there is nothing like losing & a Football disaster to undo the glue & make the shit explode. The crap within the Spanish Football Team has been smelling for sometime, while the RP experts of the team - Del Bosque included - worked hard to perfume the atmosphere & make us all believe it was all roses.

It all goes back to the fierce Real Madrid-FC Barcelona clashes two-three years back under Coach Mourinho were the games were "on field battles". The FC Barcelona players & the Barça Spanish Internationals have never forgiven Xabi Alonso (nor Arbeloa) for the fierce tackling & defence of José Mourinho. The relationship between the mentioned players turned to ice,  while in the Spanish Football Team it was "for the good of the team", a practical rational. At the Club level, Real Madrid, Alonso (& Arbeloa) also defended Mourinho & his decision to sit Iker Casillas, & the later has never forgiven them for this. In fact, Arbeloa does not talk with Casillas & Xabi looks at Casillas as a "professional" obligation.

The truth is the Xabi Alonso detractors have very little arguments as they themselves played horrendously & are totally out of form. Xabi Alonso was not to good either & made his own crucial mistakes, but the events & the circumstances has reopened wounds & bad vibes with the shit flying around once again.

The remaining days at the Spanish Team HQ in Curitiba will be a "nightmare" for the squad. There is little motivation or desire to play their last match against Australia with most wanting to leave asap to fly back home & leave this World Cup behind. The fact is that profound changes within the Spain Football Team will came, & many of those wounded by the Xabi Alonso truths should perhaps do their service to the squad & leave their place to more ambitious & hungrier young Spanish Football Talents. Xabi Alonso is included in that list, but all that he voiced was what the Football World saw for themselves on the TV.

Selector & Coach Del Bosque perhaps should consider moving aside as he was a silent witness & "a sweeper" that placed all the shit under the carpet for so long. His management has not been enough & his motivational skills has not been on show.

Stay tuned for more flying shit coming out of the Spain Football Team in coming days & weeks. We will be surprised.

WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT IS NEXT? | SPAIN ELIMINATED FROM 2014 WORLD CUP

What happened? What now? We here in Spain along with the rest of the World has witnessed the debacle of the reigning World Champions which has dominated World Soccer for the pass 6 years. The end of a "cycle" was predictable as players age & along with that their physical powers, but what has shocked us is the way, the manner & the exhibition shown in the elimination of the Spanish National Football Team from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The 1 - 5 hammering by Holland in the first of the Group B games was thought of as being some kind of anomaly or perhaps a Football "accident". But the 0 - 2 defeat yesterday at the hands of Chile washed clean those thoughts & gave evidence that Spain arrived at this competition not at a level that is required from a National Team to defend title.

As expected the disappoint & the frustration mixed with the emotion of the Spanish population & Spanish Sports media has given birth to a barrage of criticisms, some totally out of hand, that now looks for logical explanations.

Before giving some humble points of view, it is worth remembering that theses players have captivated World Football in ways Football lovers dreamt about, managing to gather European Nations Title (2008), FIFA World Cup Champion (2010) & European Nations Title (2012) again, apart from staying Nº1 on the FIFA Ranking from 2008. Respect & admiration is called for independently of recent circumstances or events. Historically its the greatest Spanish Team in its History & in World Football it will be remembered as one of the finest ever.

World Cup 2014

Said all this, some deep analysis is needed, if for no other reasons than to learn, rectify & work to return to the Football levels that everyone knows can be achieved once again. Here every piece & element of the Spanish Team puzzle has to accept their part of the failure & responsibility; the Spanish Football Authorities, the Spanish Selector & Coach & the players. I have my opinions,  & will feed off the many other opinions being expressed by qualified local Sports & Football experts:

  • The Spanish Football Team preparation was lacking. The priority on local & European competition at Club level gave only 2-3 weeks to concentrate on this tournament,
  • The heavy burden of Liga & European competition exhausted the players & most came into the World Cup physically hammered & carrying injury. Both games between Holland & Chile saw an exhausted Spanish Team in the second halves that limited any attempts of recovery under match conditions,
  • Bad management by Spanish Football Authorities perhaps with over emphasis on commercial obligations locally, & bad adaptation to the Brazilian weather conditions. The "Spain HQ" was in a region with temperatures of 15 degrees while games were played in locations with 25-30 degrees & humidity of 85% & above. Flying over from HQ the day before with players already limited psychically perhaps was not the best idea,
  • Selector & Coach Del Bosque did not take the best possible Spanish players over to Brazil. Better in form players like Fernando Llorente, Carvajal, Isco, Gabi, Raul Garcia...etc & etc. were dismissed or not even contemplated. Del Bosque decided to "please" the old guard & reward players that were out of form &/or carrying injuries. Said differently, Del Bosque succumb to "interests" & preferred to be "politically correct",
  • The "Diego Costa" experiment failed. The player did not have time to adapt to the Spanish Team "way" nor the squad to the way Costa plays. The Spanish Team had to "change" its usual methods to fit in Costa. It is worth reminding that Costa is a player that suits the counter-attack with long passing, not the "tiki-taka" close touch Football. Surprising that the technical team did not factor all this in,
  • The players were not motivated. Coach Del Bosque commented weeks before the World Cup that he did not see "the fire in the eyes" of his players, while Xabi Alonso
post-Chile game said that they lacked the inner will,
  • Iker Casillas was terrible. Understandable if your the second choice goalkeeper in your Club & only play 25-30% of the Clubs seasons game. The player came in without form & worst, without confidence. Pique went into the World Cup  recently recovered from a serious injury, as with Jordi Alba & Busquets. Xavi Hernandez was sadly out of form & physically out,
  • Spain failed to solve their recent Football problem: the lack of goal, the inability to score goals &/or convert their opportunities. Coach Del Bosque took to Brazil forwards who have spent more time on the bench with their Clubs than playing, like Villa & Torres, & Diego Costa was always a risk,
  • Bad tactical & line-up decisions. Players like Javi Martinez, Koke & Cesc Fabregas ( to mention just three) should have been used from day one. Plus locally some observers add that Juanfran was perhaps better than Azpilicueta & should have started,
  • Lastly, Holland & Chile were simply better. Deserved winners who did their homework & executed their strategy to perfection. They were better in all the aspects: more motivation, more hunger & physically superior. Six years of World Football domination by Spain gave plenty of time & examples to other to "study in depth" the Spanish ways which allowed rivals to figure & adapt effective antidotes. The Spanish sin was not innovating, not discovering & adapting more "surprise factors" in their game. Simply said, Spain become predicable.
Naturally all this is very easily to say after the fact. Criticism is always easy. I agree, as mentioned I just express my humble observations & the more vocal opinions from local Football experts. What is unanimous is that this Spanish Football Team has ended a glorious period & that the "old guard" has to give way to the new talents. The great news that the new talents are many & are very, very good players. I am sure we will all be seeing more of Koke, Isco, Carvajal, Alberto Moreno, Javi Martinez, Thiago, Ander Herrera, David De Gea ...etc.

Lastly the style of play has been questioned. The so called "tiki-taka" or touch Football has caused doubts. Naturally, to execute this perfectly you need exceptionally talented Football players in maximum form. Here too, perhaps,  we all need reminding that it was this precise style that gave Spain its Football titles & glory. The current style is more organic & natural for Spain than the other styles & I my opinion, should be maintained & simply bettered. This last is a challenge, here is were the Selector & Coach along with the technical team has to be creative & brave in the needed decisions.

To finish, locally calls are being heard that Selector & Coach Del Bosque should stand down & allow new ideas. The latest news is that Del Bosque is considering continuing. But the more immediate event for Spain is their last Group B game against Australia were they can at least attempt to exit with a better exhibition & image. Perhaps the upcoming "revolution" can begin here with a more youth & fresh line-up that include some of the players left on the bench up till now, & more importantly win back some - even if minimal - lost pride.

The weeks & months ahead will be full of criticisms, varied opinions & news concerning the Spanish National Team. But there is enough new talent on hand to return to were Spain has fought so hard over decades to be in World Football, the future is more optimistic than negative.

SPAIN 0 CHILE 2 | SPAIN ELIMINATED FROM 2014 WORLD CUP

The first National Football Team to be eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is the reigning World Champions SPAIN which lost 0 - 2 to CHILE in today's Group B match. A devastating blow to the Spain Football Team & Spanish Football which ends their nearly 8 years of domination in World Soccer. Chile with this win seals, along with Holland, their pass onto the next phase of the World Cup tournament. Spain has a last Group match on Monday against Australia which will be a "bureaucratic" affair & perhaps serve to give a run to the "next generation" of players that will continue in the future, apart to win back some pride & heal the wounds.

Spain made chances from the disastrous Holland match putting in Javi Martinez (for Pique) & Pedro (for Xavi Hernandez) but the problems maintained themselves as Chile did all the damage in the 1ºst half with pressure Football & goals from Vargas in the 20th min & a second in the 43rd min Aranguiz.

World Cup 2014

Spain in the 2º half changed Xabi Alonso for Koke but physically fell apart as Chile could have scored a couple of more goals. The Spaniards watched as their luck along with their Football left the "Maracana Stadium". Coach Del Bosque put on Fernando Torres & Cazorla to find at least a goal but the newly signed goalkeeper for FC Barcelona & Chile Claudio Bravo stopped magnificently all the Spanish efforts.

World Cup 2014

The big chance for Spain came early in the second half when Busquets missed an open goal. It highlighted one of the biggest problems with this Spanish Football Team, the lack of goal, the lack of goal creating opportunities which was again blatant in this match.

World Cup 2014

Now is not the moment to give reasons for the Spanish Football Team World Cup disaster, no doubt rivers of ink will flow tonight & in the coming weeks from World & local Sports media to give their versions. What needs to be written here now is congratulations to Chile for the victory & moving on in the World Cup tournament, I personally wish them luck.

As for Spain, some veterans would have played their last game, while some "sacred cows" will need to look closely at their performance. The Technical team will need to accept that they did not take the "best players available" over to Brazil. What is obvious is that allowing 7 goals in 2 matches signals "huge problems", to be studied & solutions to be found.

An end of a glorious era, the exit from a "Golden period" of Spanish & World Football which is & will stay in History. Spain has plenty of young World class players ready to take over & begin a new circle with the next European Nations Cup & 2018 World Cup in Russia as objectives.

THE FUTURE OF XAVI HERNANDEZ LOOKS MORE OUT OF FC BARCELONA

News & last minute manoeuvres coming out of the city of Barcelona indicate that Spanish International & Barça 34 year old midfielder XAVI HERNANDEZ may leave his actual Club. The arrival of new Coach Luis Enrique (no good feeling between them) & the effects of age has heated up the speculations levels for the past weeks of a departure.

It is known that Xavi Hernandez has an offer from New York (the American MSL) & a succulent temptation from Qatar & its Football League. In fact their is speculation he may have a pre-agreement with "Al-Arabi". The player has been meditating his future these days & today the players representative, along with FC Barcelona Football Directives meet this afternoon to discuss the situation.

FC BARCELONA 2014 LIGA

The latest from the city of Barcelona is that the Club will open the doors to Xavi & make things easy if Xavi finally does make the decision to leave the Club.

The long term future of Xavi will no doubt be tied to FC Barcelona. The player is more than likely to acquire his Football Coach license & one day perhaps train the Club of his life. The player, as with other team-mate veterans like Valdes & Carles Puyol, understand that the level required to stay in the elite of World Football & at Barça may not be attainable as the years pass.

No doubt we will all be notified soon when Xavi Hernandez finishes with his commitments with Spain at the World Cup. Who knows he could be the next "Pirlo" going to another Club to live his last years in glory. Stay tuned!

SPAIN vs CHILE PREVIEW | PLAYER CHANGES ASKED FOR IN STARTING XI LINE-UP

Tomorrow is "D-DAY"  for the Spanish Football National Team. After their disastrous start in their Group B match losing 1 - 5 to Holland, they must win Chile tomorrow to stay alive in the FIFA World Cup 2014 being held in Brazil.

The match against Holland put into doubt same players, Casillas, Pique, Busquets, Xavi Hernandez & Silva. Many local Football observers, media specialists & Spanish Fans are calling for a "radical change" to the starting line-up against Chile. Most want youth, pace & more goal instinct-opportunity creators.

However, the initial reactions were more emotional than rational. Lets not forget that Spain is 2 x European Nations & Current World Cup Champions, with the same players. A "radical revolution" may not be the solution but a few touches in key areas maybe what is needed.

While Selector & Coach Vicente del Bosque meditates his starting XI line-up against Chile, in Spain the media & Spanish fans have spoken. According to the results of surveys, online voting & media observers comments, the starting XI being asked for is:

Casillas, Azpilicueta, J.Martinez, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta, Koke, Pedro & Diego Costa.

Spanish media & fans choice

Those being asked to be left out are : Pique, Xavi Hernandez & Silva. Goalkeeper Iker Casillas has his detractors but with third keeper De Gea injured the chances of Del Bosque leaving out Casillas is slim, apart that it would be blatant finger pointing exercise that could psychologically affect player & the dressing room.

Latest news from Brazil is that Coach Del Bosque maybe considering returning to a 4-1-4-1 system, a formula used against Uruguay in the 2013 Confederations Cup. Here the team may look like:

Casillas, Azpilicueta, J.Martinez, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Koke, Cazorla, Pedro & Costa.

In both cases, they are SPECULATIONS. No one can say the actual official starting line-up XI for Spain for tomorrows Group B match against Chile. We will only know 45 minutes before kick - off time.

REVISED FASTEST FOOTBALL - SOCCER PLAYERS IN THE WORLD | FIFA RANKING

Some time ago I published a list by FIFA listing the "Fastest Football Players on the Planet". The current & ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil has put on show some of those listed & apparently has lead to modify the list. One devastating example was the opening match of Group B between Spain & Holland, where Arjen Robben reached 37 Km/h to overtake Sergio Ramos & later score. This registered velocity has put Arjen Robben as the "Fastest Footballer in World Soccer" at this moment. I say at the moment because speed has to do with current physical conditions of the players. The differences between Nº 1 & Nº10 are few & can change over weeks & months depending on how the players are in form at any given time.

Below is the current & latest list of the Top 10 quickest Football Players on Earth

Robben Fastest Football Player
Arjen Robben reaches 37 km/h

1. Robben 37 Km/h (Bayern Munich)

2. Walcott. 35,7 km/h (Arsenal FC)

3. Valencia. 35,1 km/h (Manchester United)

4. Bale. 34,7 km/h (Real Madrid CF)

5. Lennon. 33,8 km/h (Tottenham Hotspurs)

6. Cristiano Ronaldo. 33,6 km/h (Real Madrid CF)

7. Messi. 32,5 km/h (FC Barcelona)

8. Rooney. 31,2 km/h (Manchester United)

9. Ribéry. 30,7 km/h (Bayern Munich)

10. Sergio Ramos 30,6 km/h (Real Madrid CF)

FC BARCELONA ANNOUNCES IVAN RATIKIC OFFICIALLY

As posted here a week ago Croatian International midfielder IVAN RATIKIC leaves Sevilla FC & becomes a new player for FC Barcelona. The Spanish Football Club has officially announced the new signing on their Club Website.

FC BARCELONA transfers 2014

The player costs FC Barcelona around 18M€ plus variables & included in the operation was young Barça promise Denis Suarez who goes over to Sevilla FC for the next two season, Barça keeps a "buy-back" option of 6M€ on the youngster. Ivan Ratikic signs a contract with FC Barcelona that keeps him tied to the Club for the next 5 years.

The Croatian is the substitute player for Cesc Fabregas who has signed for Chelsea FC for 33M€ as announced days back while the player was in Barzil with the Spanish National Team.

FC BARCELONA - GONZALO HIGUAIN HAVE AN AGREEMENT FOR NEXT SEASON ?

Surprise, surprise. Spanish Sports paper "Marca" advances that ex-Real Madrid & now Napoli Argentine International Gonzalo Higuain is very close to landing at FC Barcelona for next season. That is right, as you read, according to the media source Higuain has come to an agreement with with Spanish Football Club FC Barcelona to be their new forward signing for next season.

The only thing now needed is the both Napoli & Barça agree to the transfer terms. The other name that were being flown around was Sergio Aguero, but it looks like things have taken a turn.

Possible FC Barcelona candidate 2014

I need to remind that this is still speculation & that both Clubs involved have not made any comments about this new transfer story. For all we know it could be a "smoke-screen" while Barça works on another candidate that they desire to keep under wraps for the moment.

Real Madrid sold the 26 year old Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli last season for 40M€ & one could think that Napoli would at least want to get back their investment. The hypothetical operation could involve cash plus a player/s.

If all this is correct & Higuain ends up at FC Barcelona the Argentine will be another in a list of players that crossed over from Real Madrid to the "enemy". One of the most remembered & infamous is current Barça Coach Luis Enrique, which in itself is now ironic.

Stay tuned, as I will keep an eye on this interesting new development.

LATEST: Monday 16th June: Both Napoli & FC Barcelona release notes communicating that this story has no truth.

POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM XI AGAINST CHILE ?

The 1 - 5 defeat by Spain at the hands of Holland in last Wednesdays FIFA World Cup Group B opener is still causing debate, especially locally as everyone attempts to figure out what went wrong.

The Spanish National Football Team is now back at their base camp in the city of Curitiba recovering physically & morally thinking about their next match against Chile. The mathematics are quite simple, in order to stay in the competition & qualify beyond the Group phase, Spain must defeat Chile & then defeat Australia with plenty of goals. The first will be another difficult affair, while Australia can be defeated but they wont be so easy to bag a "ton of goals". Ironically Holland can do Spain a huge favour if they can win Chile. The mission in itself is feasible for Spain, they lost their first game in 2010 & later won the tournament, plus many Football observers including other National Coaches & players have warned that Spain could be more dangerous now than ever.

SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM PHOTO vs Holland WORLD CUP 2014
Spain starting XI vs Holland - Group B FIFA World Cup 2014

Putting aside for now what will need to be done, the immediate future is Chile & this will be a "sudden death" Final for them as Spain must win or prepare their flight tickets back home. The Holland match saw a fairly good 1ºst half from Spain, the disaster was the 2º half. Tiredness? Lack of concentration? Motivation? The heat? The obvious answer is Holland played their cards correctly. But to allow 5 goals into the Spanish net, must be more reasons?

Local observers have pointed to the players (perhaps easy targets) like Casillas, Pique, Xavi Hernandez & Silva. There are more names but these are the ones that stand out. The calling is for changes in the starting XI, more in form men, more youth, more speed & perhaps more verticality. Spanish Coach Vicente del Bosque has already hinted at changes but we do not know the extend or depth. One called for change will not occur, goalkeeper Iker Casillas will continue. So where are the changes expected?

Here is possible starting XI Spanish team against Chile:

Casillas, Azpilicueta, Javi Martinez, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Xabi Alonso, Sergi Busquets, Koke, Iniesta, Perdo & Diego Costa (perhaps Villa).

Those speculated to be sacrificed would be Pique, Xavi Hernandez & Silva, with Diego Costa an unknown.  Those speculated to be included are Javi Martinez, Koke & Pedro.

Is this a better team? Not necessarily, what is being looked for is defensive stability, freshness & pace along with a more vertical approach towards goal. The other question is will the Spanish squad recover mentally & morally from the Dutch hammering & how will Casillas himself recover. In theory both should be OK but the human mind is still a great unknown & Chile are not at the World Cup to be a healing therapy for the Spaniards

Who would you take out & who would you put in?

SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM CRITICISMS | THE AFTERMATH

Yesterday was Friday the 13th. For those suspicious it was perhaps the worst day to start a World Cup campaign, for others Iker Casillas needs to be asked if he saw a Black Cat cross his path yesterday. The 1 - 5 defeat by Spain at the hands of Holland was humiliating & complicates their Group B qualification. Spain has to now defeat (yes or yes) a very difficult Chile, & then defeat Australia with plenty of goals.

In theory this can be achieved, but the unknown is if Spain & some of its players can lift out of the hole they dug last night for the occasion. The unexpected result was so savage that the open wounds inflicted may not scare in time. The psychological "torture" so intense that Spain may not be able to recover its lost confidence. The situation is critical & will need the "DNA" of Champions to recover. I am optimistic but the feat is a challenge in itself.

World Cup 2014 Brazil

While Spain spend these days licking their wounds, locally the critics have come out from under the carpet to voice their opinions. There are very severe words flying around Spain, with little respect for a squad that has been spectacular the last 8 years. However, the more moderate observer does separate himself from the the emotional kick in the teeth methods, the "Black Cat Theory" & does give some interesting points that need comment & analysis. Lets look at some elements:
  • The Spanish Football Authorities: can anyone explain how a team can prepare its World Cup campaign in a city (Curitiba) where the temperature is around 15-18 degrees to later fly a day before to another city (Bahia) were it is nearly 30 degrees & a humidity of 85% to play its opening match? As shown Spain could not even run in the 2º half as they were physically suffocated. The Dutch by the way, trained at the beach in Rio.
  • Selector & Coach Vicente de Bosque: accused of not taking the best possible Spain 23 over to Brazil. The existence of a "paternal instinct" that has prized out of form players like Villa, Torres, Xavi, Mata & Casillas etc. has left home watching the TV players who deserved their "Brazil ticket" like Fernando Llorente, Gabi, Carvajal, perhaps Raul Garcia, perhaps Ander Herrara...etc. I personally understand Del Bosque better proven experience over youth, but last night showed that many starting players are badly out of form & physically "wasted" after a long Club season.
Added, there is some criticism of why Spain has taken Diego Costa. The Spanish Football Team has had to change its style in order to incorporate Costa, with more long balls. However, the player himself has not delivered the expected goods & on top is a constant "red card" danger.

  • Iker Casillas: if two World Class Coaches like Mourinho & Carlo Ancelotti decide to sit Casillas at Club level, there must be a reason. The UEFA Champions Final against Atletico de Madrid warned us that Iker was not well. The Spanish Captain has two grand technical weakness, his aerial play & his foot work, plus now a third which he has been carrying for almost a year, lack of confidence. Technically Iker Casillas should not be the starting goalkeeper, the man is simply elsewhere.
  • Xavi Hernandez: physically not up to the standards needed at World Cup level. The player is feeling his 34 years of age. In fact Xavi has not been all that great with FC Barcelona all season, & perhaps could have stayed home & given his place to another. Atletico de Madrid player Koke would have been a more appropriate starter with more youth & in complete form.
  • Sergi Busquets: the player is on the field with an injury. In the second half Sergi was not able to reach & halt the Dutch creators. Coach Del Bosque takes off Xabi Alonso when it should have been Busquets. Some say that Busquets is the "favourite" of Del Bosque.

  • Pique: the last weeks of Liga the player was out with an injured hip. The Barça player lacks playing time & yesterday suffered to reach the 90 min under the steamy conditions. Bayern Munich player Javi Martinez was the obvious choice but ...

  • Sergio Ramos: all the recent praises & awards have not done any good. The player is undoubtedly a talent but Ramos suffers from over-confidence & lapses in concentration. His Club Coaches have managed this aspect by bring the player "down to earth", perhaps a "wake up call" from Del Bosque would be in order.

  • Lack of goal: to win in Football you need to score goals, it is that simple. Spain has a problem up front, there is no "goal area Killer". The rivals have Spain more than studied & worked out, Diego Costa is an alternative but the player has yet to find his place in the team.
In conclusion, the Spanish Football National Team has soon real problems that need drastic solutions. The 1 - 5 defeat has only brought them to light & it all begins with bad planning & bad choice of players not in form for the World Cup. The solutions will need some very brave decisions that I wonder if Coach Del Bosque is really up to the occasion. Local observers are advising that Casillas, Pique & Xavi Hernandez be dropped for starters. On the physical front I am not sure the players can recover as their legs are carrying more than 70 games of Liga & European Football. Mentally, it will be a challenge to comeback, here the veterans will have to guide the younger members & pull from pride & history.

All the answers will be made clear against Chile, here we will be able to gauge if Spain has improved & perhaps predict their near future. The positive side is that Chile is not as sharp as we thought as they struggled against Australia in their opener, but they managed to win & will not have the enormous choking pressure on their shoulders as will the Spaniards. A loss against Chile will be the end of a fabulous period of Spanish Football that will herald the beginning of a "new era".

Lets be optimistic & give the current World Champions a vote of confidence. But the reality is that it is a very, very complicated & delicate situation. I would avoid "Black Cats" just in case.

SPAIN 1 - HOLLAND 5 | WORLD CUP 2014 GROUP B RESULT

Not even in the Spain Football Team (or ours) worst nightmare would have they have thought that their opening FIFA World Cup 2014 Group B match against Holland would end in a 1 - 5 defeat. A devastating blow to Spain which had a horrific 2º half with unusual defensive mistakes & mental lapses that cumulated in a moral deterioration that will hurt & leave deep scares.

If Holland thought this to be a revenge match after losing the 2010 World Cup Final to Spain, the end result could not have been sweeter. A perfect start for them as this will certainly lift their spirits for the competition journey ahead.

Spain World Cup 2014

Some elements that were clear & illustrated by Spain tonight will need to be urgently solved. A blatant ineffectiveness in front of goal & lack of physical stamina that will put a question mark on some of the more veterans,  especially in the midfield like Xavi Hernandez. Spain has incorporated Diego Costa - who started - as a "solution" up front but the player still needs to understand the "Spanish National Team" way of play & is still "timid" with his new role.

Spain World Cup 2014

The first half was dominated by Spain which controlled the match & looked confident. The goal opportunities timidly arrived & in the 27th min XABI ALONSO put Spain ahead from the penalty spot after Diego Costa was fouled in the area. Minutes later David Silva had a golden chance but failed to convert & this later was paid dearly as Spain could not "knock out" the rival. Holland reacted in the 43rd min when VAN PERSIE brilliantly headed the equalizer after the Spanish defensive were caught "sleeping". A psychological goal that was to herald the tremendous 2º half the Dutch were to exhibit.

Spain World Cup 2014

The second half was a nightmare & it was humiliating for Spain which dropped their heads as the goals went in. The steamy conditions drew the energy out from the players & the midfielders which could not recover spaces & left their defending team-mates under siege. The Dutch were physically superior & closed spaces to suffocate the Spaniards leading to mistakes. Errors which the Dutch capitalised on with their second goal coming in the 52nd min from ROBBEN. However it was the third in the 64th min by Vrij (possible foul on Casillas) that "killed" of a possible comeback attempt for Spain. Unlike Spain, the Dutch are effective with their goal opportunities & convert.

The disaster continued when Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas fumbled a back pass which allowed VAN PERSIE to pounce & score the fourth in the 73rd min. The nightmare continued when ROBBEN scored the Dutch 5th goal in the 81st min, which could had been more had not Casillas made some important saves.

The Spanish midfield was broken in the  2º half & non-existent as Xavi Hernandez along with Busquets were physically nailed. Spanish Coach Del Bosque made changes bring on Torres & Pedro but it was too late & they too sinned not taking & converting their goal chances.

Holland are deserved winners which went in the this match with a clear "game plan" that worked marvellously for them. Spain will need to reflect on this encounter & solve a few important issues & areas. Remember that Spain also lost their first game back in 2010 & later went on to win the World Cup. However the result tonight was so humiliating that I wonder if the "Champs" can recover & comeback considering that their next game is against Chile & will be a final win or die situation.

Lastly, the man & player which leaves most wounded tonight is Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas. With Real Madrid he is the second keeper to Diego Lopez & while defended by all his supporters, team-mates & media all season demonstrated his 2 principal weakness as a goalkeeper: the aerial play & his foot work. Both were badly executed & both gave Dutch goals. Will Iker Casillas be able to psychologically recover from tonight's blow? Will Spain be able to shake off this disaster? It will all be answered against Chile, a win lifting the moral & a loss leading Spanish officials to find the return home flight tickets.
