SPAIN vs CHILE PREVIEW | PLAYER CHANGES ASKED FOR IN STARTING XI LINE-UP

Tomorrow is "D-DAY"  for the Spanish Football National Team. After their disastrous start in their Group B match losing 1 - 5 to Holland, they must win Chile tomorrow to stay alive in the FIFA World Cup 2014 being held in Brazil.

The match against Holland put into doubt same players, Casillas, Pique, Busquets, Xavi Hernandez & Silva. Many local Football observers, media specialists & Spanish Fans are calling for a "radical change" to the starting line-up against Chile. Most want youth, pace & more goal instinct-opportunity creators.

However, the initial reactions were more emotional than rational. Lets not forget that Spain is 2 x European Nations & Current World Cup Champions, with the same players. A "radical revolution" may not be the solution but a few touches in key areas maybe what is needed.

While Selector & Coach Vicente del Bosque meditates his starting XI line-up against Chile, in Spain the media & Spanish fans have spoken. According to the results of surveys, online voting & media observers comments, the starting XI being asked for is:

Latest news from Brazil is that Coach Del Bosque maybe considering returning to a 4-1-4-1 system, a formula used against Uruguay in the 2013 Confederations Cup. Here the team may look like:

The first is FC Barcelona which travels to Glasgow to play Celtic which defeated Barça last time they meet at home 2- 1. The other is a very interesting match between two well known teams Oporto which host Atletico de Madrid.


As usual Spanish Sports paper "Sport" provides its readers with the speculated possible starting 11 line-ups for both teams. Below we have the possible Barça & Atletico starting line-ups.

The main feature is the absence of Lionel Messi who is injured & all eyes will be placed on Neymar to take on responsibilities. Its the perfect stage for the Brazilian to show the World why FC Barcelona put their future hopes on him.

Valdes, Alves, Pique, Bartra, Adriano, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc, Pedro & Neymar

PREVIEW | SPANISH FOOTBALL | REAL MADRID - ATLETICO DE MADRID | POSSIBLE TEAMS LINE-UPS

Spanish Football has its first big Liga game tomorrow as part of Round 7. The divided city of Madrid will hook onto the TV around 22.00 hrs to watch the Real Madrid - Atletico de Madrid derby.

Real Madrid come in as the less in form team, with Atletico de Madrid enjoying an undefeated streak & are sharing the leadership of the Liga classification table with FC Barcelona. Atletico are favourites & seem to have finally gotten the upper hand over their city rivals after winning the Spanish Cup last season at the "Santiago Bernabeu Stadium".

However true this may be there is nothing more to "fear" than when the "enemy" is wounded. The last three games - Granada, Villareal & Elche - has seen a relatively poor Real Madrid pushed around & in occasions against the ropes as their star player Cristiano Ronaldo has needed to came to their rescue. The team is not working.

The Real Madrid defence is not solid, there are midfield issues to still be resolved & upfront Benzema is not proving to be the Number Nine the Club needs & is looking for this season. The squad lacks intensity & concentration & because of this Coach Ancelotti will concentrate his players tonight to begin the psychological strengthening. 

The other news is that Gareth Bale is fit & looks like he will play tomorrow which may give Real Madrid another useful resource, however no one is sure if he will start or come on in the second half.

If there was ever a moment to win & knock off their pedestal their City rival it is tomorrow night in the Stadium of the "enemy".

EUROPA LEAGUE 2009 2010 | ATLETICO DE MADRID 90 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE FINAL

They are the last Spanish Team standing in Europe. Ironical if you look at season 2009-2010 & realise how terrible things were for ATLETICO DE MADRID 4-5 months ago when Directives were “forced” to sack starting Coach Abel when the team hovered in the relegation positions of the Spanish League. With the arrival of current Coach Quique Sanchez Flores the “Liga” haemorrhage has been contained with the Club now in mid table positions & safe, plus they are Finalists in the upcoming Spanish Cup were they will compete against Sevilla FC for the title. Tonight the play LIVERPOOL FC in the 2º leg of the EUROPA LEAGUE semi-final & start with a 1-0 goal advantage from the 1ºst leg. Atletico are one game away from reaching a European Final. The last time Atletico reached so far in Europe was back in 1986 (24 years ago) when they played Dynamo Kiev in the Final of the European Cup Winners Cup which they lost. A long time for a Club with such a long Football tradition , a Club of its size & with such a loyal fan base.

However, the endeavour at the “mythical” Anfield Stadium will not be an easy affair as Liverpool will be pushed on by their warm & supporting fans which will create an uncomfortable atmosphere for their Spanish visitors. The good news for Atletico is the return of SERGIO AGUERO up front, after he served his one match suspension in the first leg, where he will form a dangerous partnership in the forward line with Diego Forlan, Simao & Reyes.

The players know they have a unique opportunity tonight, they know that their “dream” of reaching a European Final is only 90 minutes away. Tonight could be the night to wipe off a bad season & equilibrate those unexplained swings in fortune that so much leave perplexed fans & observers. It will be very difficult, Liverpool also need a victory tonight to allow them to forget their own terrible season & regain their lost confidence in themselves.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL 2009: CHELSEA FC vs FC BARCELONA - A PREVIEW

We already know one team that will be in the Rome Final of the
Champions League the 27th of May. Manchester United won Arsenal
in last night’s semi-finals to give them the place to meet the winner
of tonight’s other semi-final between CHELSEA FC & FC BARCELONA.

The 1º leg at Barcelona finished in a 0-0 draw & that sets up tonight’s
game in a “anything” can happen Football story that has the Football
World awaiting the kick –off. Both teams will need to go out from the
start with a “must win” mentality, Barcelona will attempt to do so

THE ROAD TO THE WORLD CUP 2010: SPAIN vs TURKEY - A PRE-HYPE VIDEO

Found this while surfing “YouTube”. It’s a pre-hype video elaborated by a
guy called Sabit who is from Sydney Australia. A lot of work has gone into
the 3min clip & one can see the TLC with a balanced treatment given to both
teams. Well done mate!

Check it out, thought I’d post it on SFS to build up the atmosphere a bit as
a way to countdown what will be the Spanish National side first real serious
test of its World Cup 2010 qualifying Group matches. Turkey is a team to be
respected with a line-up of talented players that can give Spain a surprise if
they let down their guard.

mythical “Santiago Bernabeu Stadium” in Madrid in front of a crowd of 95,000
& watched throughout the World. It will be the first of a double clash with
Turkey when they again meet the following Wednesday away.

ATLETICO DE MADRID: BACK IN CHAMPIONS

It´s a personal pleasure to be able to witness again after 11 years
ATLETICO DE MADRID back in the Champions League competition

tonight with the elite of European Football. Frankly, it makes this
humble author & administrator of SFS slightly emotional, as many of
it´s regular readers may already understand the reason.

The starting team line-up is not official as yet, but we do know that
Maxi, Pernia & Pablo have not travelled. This allows us to speculate

on what maybe reasonable line-up:

L.Franco, Perea, Heitinga, Ujfalusi, A.Lopez, R. Garcia, Maniche,
Assuncao, Simao, Forlan & Aguero.
