SPAIN FOOTBALL TEAM | SOME REASONS THAT EXPLAIN THEIR ELIMINATION

Nearly 24 horas after SPAIN was eliminated by RUSSIA in the FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 the process of closer scrutiny, deeper evaluation & severe criticism has began doing the rounds locally with Sports Media at the helm. The main labour is to explain the reasons behind the Spanish Football Team extraordinary failure & vulnerability against "lesser" National Teams. Plus, added to this, the frustration of letting go of a unique opportunity given the path towards a Final seeing Spain was in a more hypothetically accesible line of match-ups. All the "bigger" names were on the other "wing" knocking themselves out.

So what happened? What are the reasons for the Spanish National Teams debacle? Here are a few ideas that may help explain their elimination from the 2018 World Cup.

  • Sacking of Selector & Coach Julen Lopetegui:  Spanish Football Federation President Luis Rubiales made the drastic decision to fire (sack) Julen Lopetegui 2 days before the start of the World Cup competition. The announcement by Real Madrid that Lopetegui would be their new Coach apparently surprised President Rubiales who claims he was not informed. There has been a lot written since of the whys, the "rush of blood to the head" of Rubiales, the need to enforce order or other mysterious motives. The truth is that the decision of Rubiales left without head (the thinking head) the Spanish National Team. A terrible initial decision.

  • Current Coach Fernando Hierro: The man practically had no real choice, the up till then Football Director (a administrative role) was directly handed the "hot potato". Fernando Hierro had no experience, his only real Coach employment was with Second Division B Spanish Team Oviedo where he was sacked. He was also asistente to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid for a year, but little more.

Said this, Hierro did not choose the Spanish Squad nor have sufficient time to train them properly, fix & practice tactics or elaborate alternative game plays. He was "technically dead" from the start. Hierro was not able to lift the moral of the players or truly win over the "more loyal" to Lopetegui players. Its curious that Saul who voiced support for Lopetegui did not get minutes at all during the World Cup.

  • Lack of ideas, alternative plans & slow to react by Fernando Hierro: As a consequence of the above reason, Hierro was more a "statue" than a real Coach. Slow to react (with substitutions) to the circumstances, no alternative ideas when things got difficult & conservative in his thinking. This last point maybe explained as not being brave enough to risk, attack more when the only objetive for survival was to score. This point was brought to "life" when Hierro decides to bring on forward Rodrigo mid extra-time against Russia when this should have been done earlier around the 65th min mark.

  •  No goal: Spain has difficulty scoring goals & Diego Costa is not the answer. Spain broke a record during Russia with more than a 1000 passes, but what worth has this & ball domination if you cannot score goals.

  • Goalkeeper De Gea: Unfortunately for the Manchester United goalie he was not at his best. His mistakes & lack of confidence made contagious his "fear" to the rest of the Spanish defence. A note, De Gea received 12 goal opportunities of which 11 were goals. During the penalty shoot-out with Russia not one single attempt was stopped.

  • Too many defensive mistakes: The apparent two best central defenders in World Football Ramos & Pique were not at the level of the statement. Ramos was slow, Pique not fully concentrated as he made 2 penalties with childish mistakes that cost Spain the victories. Carvajal had come out of an injury & was not able to break defences with incursions & he was not 100%, & Busquets was left too alone in his defensive role. The solution was midfielder KOKE for equilibrium but here Coach Hierro inexperience made him put forward other options. Costly decision.

  • Low form of the "sacred cows": If De Gea & defenders Ramos, Pique & Carvajal were out of form, others like David Silva & Andres Iniesta were not firing on all cylinders. All were slow & mentally not fresh. Perhaps others more "hungry" with less name could have shown more grit.

  • Marco Asensio: the golden boy of Spanish Football received a "reality check". Perhaps the stage was "too big" , perhaps the pressure was overwhelming or simply the inexperience made a dent. Whatever he was disappointing.

  • Lack of alternative plans: Spain has a very visible & formed way of playing Football: touch & domination of the ball Football. However, the other teams have found the anecdote; allow Spain the ball & defend with 5 - 6 defenders & await mistakes to counter-attack Spain. With this habitual scenario Spain has not a "Plan B" or a "Plan C". The options of long balls to a central forward is another option, long shots from outside the box another response, less touch & more direct Football could be the answer.

Spain has no longer players like Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso, Marcos Senna, David Villa, Carles Puyol etc to play & allow for effective results from the famous "Tiqui Taka".

  • The bench was limited: here the only person responsable was Lopetegui who made the final list. But it was later shown that Spain had a "weak" bench of substitutes. Said this many cannot understand why Saúl did not get a chance to play at all. Perhaps his comments in favour of Lopetegui is a reason.

Soccer Spain

Important victory for Real Sociedad 2 - 0 over Valencia CF. Both goals came from Jonathas - 78th & 81st min. Valencia is not able to shake off their "bad Football habits" when with ex-Coach Nuno or now with new Coach Neville.

Malaga FC

Las Palmas & Malaga FC ended their match with a 1 - 1 draw & final result. The opener came from Las Palmas through Tana in the 50th min, while Santa Cruz equalized for Malaga in the 71st min.

Spanish Football

The revelation team of the Liga Eibar won 2 - 1 RCD Espanyol. The goals for Eibar came through Japanese player Inui in the 14th min & Borja in the 73rd min converting a penalty. The only goal for Espanyol came thanks to the Jordan with his 21st min contribution.

Soccer Spain Liga

Celta de Vigo hosted Atletico de Madrid & ended up losing 0 - 2. The match was fairly even until the 2º half when Atletico found their Football. The goals came from Griezmann in the 48th min & Carrasco in the 79th min. The win by At. Madrid keeps them at the top of the Spanish Liga classification table (with Barça a game less).

SPANISH FOOTBALL | LIGA ROUND 7 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Spanish Football in full flight today with four Liga Round 7 games scheduled. Here are all the final results with all the goalscorers.

spanish football results

Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano hosted Real Betis & lost 0 - 2. Not an accurate picture of things with Rayo playing well & creating numerous goal occasions but failing to penetrate a solid Betis defence.  Betis on the other-hand took their opportunities with Westermann opening with his goal in the 19th min & Castro sealing things in the 59th min with his goal.

Updates Spanish Football

Athletic Club Bilbao defeated visiting Valencia CF 3 - 1. Valencia went into this match on a high after a good week of results but fell again into doubts with a forward line that does not create enough goal opportunities. Although Valencia went ahead first through Parejo in the 19th min, Bilbao turned things completely around starting with the equalizer in the 38th min from Laporte, followed by a second goal from Susaeta in the 59th min & the third from inform forward Aduriz in the 68th min.

Valencia Coach Nuno will be grateful for the Liga week break so things can calm down again back at Valencia were supporters patience is wearing thin.

La Liga 2015

Levante stopped the winning ways of Villarreal after winning their game 1 - 0. Levante was a sticky outfit & made Villarreal fell uncomfortable all match with close marking & good tactical positioning. The winner for Levante came in the 82nd  min through Deyveron.

Spanish Football

Atletico de Madrid drew 1 - 1 with Real Madrid in the big City of Madrid derby. Intense encounter as expected with plenty of yellow cards as both teams went all out to win. The first half was for Real Madrid & they opened the scoring in the 9th min through Karim Benzema after a great Carvajal pass. However, Carvajal injured himself later & with a "slower" Arbeloa having to take his place this gave Atletico de Madrid a chance to exploit the right flank. Atletico won themselves a penalty after Ramos fouled Thiago but Griezmann failed after Real Madrid goalie Keylor Navas saved. The Real Madrid goalie would later be vital for his team later.

In the second half Atletico de Madrid took over, & finally Coach Simeone made some changes, including Jackson Martinez for Torres. It was the Colombian who found the pass from team-mate Carrasco (sub) & won with pace Arbeloa & crossed to have Vietto (sub) slam home the equalizer in the the 84th min. The game was end to end & Atletico nearly went ahead but Real goalie Keylor Navas made another great save from a Jackson Martinez shot.

In the end shared points for both teams, with a regular Real Madrid just managing to get through tonight, & thanks to their goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

SPANISH FOOTBALL | LA LIGA ROUND 5 WEDNESDAY GAMES RESULTS

Six Spanish Football matches tonight as Round 5 of La Liga continues with the following final results & goalscorers.

Soccer Spain

Celta de Vigo pulled off the surprise "running over" FC Barcelona & winning 4 - 1. Celta had been giving signs of danger in past games with some excellent Football & tonight they again pulled off a smooth - brilliant - performance.

Barcelona had Pique back to help the defence but it did not matter, as the whole backline failed with spaces appearing that Celta capitalised on. Barça lacked intensity in this match & it was not long before Celta pounced on the visitors uncertainty. Nolito opened the scoring for Celta with a superb chip over Ter Stegen in the 26th min, then Aspas scored the second after a Barça defensive mess up in the 30th min.

With Barça rattled & not being able to turn their chances into goal the third for Celta came in the 57th min through Aspas with his second for the night. FC Barcelona managed to score in the 80th min through Neymar, but Celta de Vigo shut the match with a fourth goal through Guidetti in the 83rd min.

Excellent match from Celta which is on a roll, stilling at the top of the Liga ladder.

Levante hosted Eibar & their match ended in a cliff hanger 2 - 2 draw with the home team making a heroic comeback. Eibar dominated the first half with two goals from Borja - 10th min & 48th min - but allowed Levante to gradually crawl back into the game.

The first goal for Levante came through Morales in the 52nd min & the equalizer right at the end through Deyverson in the 94th min.

La Liga 2015

Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano defeated a 10 man Sporting de Gijon 2 - 1. The first goal was a penalty in the 41st min that Rayo player Trashorras converted, but Sporting defender Bernard received a red card. Rayo exploited the advantage & scored their second through Javi Guerra in the 52nd min. Sporting Gijon pulled inspiration from pride & managed their only goal in the 54th min through Jony.

LA LIGA vs ATH BILBAO

Tremendous match between Athletic club Bilbao & Real Madrid with the visitors finally pulling the victory 1 - 2. Hard fought between both teams with plenty of physical contact & the locals spurred on by their loyal fanbase.

In the end what swayed the result were particular mistakes or details that were pounced on & in the case of Real Madrid, their goalkeeper Keylor Navas who made some vital match winning saves, especially in the 2º half.

The opener came through Karim Benzema who pounced on a terrible Bilbao defender mistake passing back to his goalkeeper in the 19th min. Bilbao did not bend & stood firm against the visitors & slowly got themselves back into the match creating chances. The equalizer came in the 67th min when Sabin headed alone spurring on Bilbao. But 3 minutes later a Bilbao defensive slip allowed space for Isco to cross into the square & find an incoming Karim Benzema in the 70th min to score his & the teams second goal.

Real Madrid then stacked the midfield while Bilbao through long balls forward looking for their big men, but there was Real Madrid goalie Navas & his defence to stand firm. Top match from both sides! Real Madrid sits Liga table leader.

Spain Football

Malaga FC 0 - Villarreal 1 (o.g Tissone 70th min)

Espanyol stood firm & was disciplined in defence with Sevilla only managing to score just one goal through Diogo in the 88th min.

Final result in tonights 2º leg return Quarter-final 1 - 0 to Sevilla FC, but RCD Espanyol qualifies on 3 - 2 aggregate & goes into the semi-finals to meet At.Bilbao

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA ROUND 20 SATURDAY GAMES FINAL RESULTS

Spanish Football Liga action today with 5 matches scheduled of Round 20. Here is a brief summary of events, the final results & all the goalscorers.

Real Madrid Liga 2015

Cordoba nearly pulled off the surprise taking Real Madrid down to the wire. Although the home team lost 1 - 2 to the visitors, Cordoba did not deserve to lose.

Cordoba got off to a flying start when they were awarded a penalty due to a Sergio Ramos hand-ball penalty. Cordoba forward Ghilas converted & put his team in the lead in the 2 min. Far from defending the home team contested the ball & kept on creating chances. However, Real Madrid has a lot of resources up their sleeve & managed to draw from a corner when Karim Benzema scrambled a loose ball for goal in the 27th min.

From here, Cordoba defended well, made Real Madrid feel totally uncomfortable & kept on creating chances. Their lack of finishing prowess in-front of goal made them pay later, plus with luck not being on their side when they hit the bar mid 2º half.

But, as mentioned, Real Madrid has the resources, & a Gareth Bale free-kick was hand-balled in the penalty square & the maximum punishment was called. In the 89th min Gareth Bale scored the penalty to save the day, match & give Real Madrid the three points. A win but one of the worst games for Real Madrid all season, on the contrary for Cordoba which put in a "blinder".

But the victory was highly paid for Real Madrid as the accumulated frustration of the day made Cristiano Ronaldo lashed out on Cordoba defender Edimar late in the 2º half to earn himself a direct Red Card. The Portuguese will miss out the next Liga match, & possibly the Atletico de Madrid clash if the "Disciplinary Commission" hands out a 2 game suspension.

FC Barcelona Liga 2015

Elche hosted FC Barcelona & were steamed rolled 0 - 6. The home team only lasted around 36 mins & less after Fajr received a red card in the 54th min to leave Elche with 10 men. The goals fell in the following order:
  • Pique 36th min, 0 - 1
  • Messi (pen.) 55th min, 0 - 2
  • Neymar 69th min, 0 - 3
  • Neymar 72nd min, 0 - 4
  • Messi 88th min, 0 - 5
  • Pedro 93rd min.
Excellent & authoritative exhibition from Barça which seems to have overcome their mini-crisis from weeks back, plus maintains the pressure on Real Madrid in the classification table. Lionel Messi adds another 2 goals as he begins to narrow the "goal scoring" margin between himself & rival CR7.

At Madrid Liga 2015

Atletico de Madrid took the local derby defeating relatively comfortably Rayo Vallecano 3 - 1. The home team deserved the win, while Rayo had brief moments were they looked better but were not able to lift beyond. Overall, the visitors paid dearly for their defensive mistakes as the Atletico pressure, speed & counter-attacking was deadly.

The man of the match was Antoine Griezmann with his two goals - 12th & 22nd min - getting better match by match. The Frenchman nearly got a hat-trick but the ball hit the wood-work late in the 2º half. The other Atletico goal came from an own goal by Rayo player Manucho

The only goal for Rayo Vallecano came in the 35th min from Trashorras that put his team brief back in the game.

Liga 2015

Real Sociedad won 1 - 0  Eibar in the "Basque Region" derby. The winner came through the 56th min header from Xabi Prieto.

Villarreal won 1 - 0 Levante & once again to the play & goal of Vietto in the 52nd min was vital. Villarreal consolidate themselves in the European ladder positions.

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA ROUND 14 SUNDAY GAMES RESULT

Spanish Football Liga continued today - Sunday - with 4 games scheduled of Round 14. Here are all the final results along with all the goalscorers.

Liga Football Spain 2014

Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano lost 0 - 1 to Sevilla FC. One of their many defensive mistakes lead to the winner in the 8th min. A mix-up between a Rayo defender & goalkeeper allowed Bacca to score. Rayo looked for the equalizer in the latter part of the game but Sevilla held strong in defence to secure the 3 points.

Goal Spanish League 2014

City of Barcelona derby with FC Barcelona hosting RCD Espanyol. The final result a runaway 5 - 1 victory for Barça with a HAT-TRICK from Lionel Messi included. Espanyol got themselves ahead in the 13th min but Barça reacted in the 44th min to equalize & later poured on the goals. This is the order of all the goals:
  • Sergio Garcia 13th min, 0 - 1
  • Messi 44th min, 1 - 1
  • Messi 50th min, 2 - 1
  • Pique 52th min, 3 -1
  • Pedro 76th min, 4 - 1
  • Messi 81st min, 5 - 1
Excellent response by FC Barcelona in reaction to the pressure being applied by rivals Real Madrid on the Liga classification table.

Spanish football

Villarreal inflicted the first loss for new Real Sociedad Coach Moyes winning 4 - 0. Real Sociedad fell apart after the first Villarreal goal came from an own goal from Zubikarai. There after Villarreal got their second through Cheryshev in the 73rd min, a third by M.Gomez in the 80th min & again M.Gomez with a fourth. The three points to Villarreal, & Real Sociedad go back to the drawing board to see if they can lessen some of tonights defensive mistakes.

Valencia CF

Granada surprised pushing Valencia CF right up to the end. In fact, the home team deserved the victory, but Valencia are also a tough nut to crack & bit their teeth to manage a worked 1 - 1 draw down to 10 men when Alcacer was sent off in the 87th min.

In fact, Valencia thought they had managed to shake off Granada when Alvaro Negredo put them ahead in the 83rd min. But Valencia lost Alcacer to a red card in the 87th min to which Granada fully exploited & managed the equalizer in the 89th min through Success - possible offside! Excitement & controversy right down to the wire.

More Spanish Football with Monday night Round 14 games still to be played:
Eibar - Almeria
Levante - Getafe

SPANISH CUP - COPA DEL REY - WEDNESDAY GAMES FINAL RESULTS

Spanish Cup - Copa de Rey - games continued tonight with 5 matches scheduled. Here are all the final results along with all the goalscorers.

Spanish Cup 2014

Sevilla FC played their 2º leg tie with Second Division Club Sabadell & won 5 - 1, taking the overall aggregate to 11-2.

The visitors got ahead first through a penalty that Collantes scored in the 21st min, from here it was a Sevilla Show with goals from:
  • Gameiro 34th min, 1 - 1
  • Aspas 58th min, 2 - 1
  • Aspas 59th min, 3 - 1
  • Aspas 61st min, 4 - 1
  • Deulofeu 80th min, 5 - 1
Sevilla forward Aspas got a Hat-Trick in 3 mins!

Spanish Cup 2014

Atletico de Madrid travelled to visit 2º Division B Club L´Hospitalet for their 1ºst leg Kings Cup game. The final result was a 0 - 3 victory for Atletico with goals from :
  • Griezmann 67th min, 0 - 1
  • Gabi 81st min penalty, 0 - 2
  • Cristian Rodriguez 92nd min, 0 - 3
At. Madrid has the tie under control (barring an accident) & are on course to meet Real Madrid in the next stage.

Spanish Cup 2014

Deportivo A Coruña hosted Malaga FC for their 1º st tie clash with the final score a 1 - 1 draw. Malaga got ahead first through a Samu goal in the 10th min, but Depor managed to equalize in the 68th min through Toche.

FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona visited Huesca for their 1ºst leg match & won 0 - 4. Barça was mostly without their bigger names, but those on the field did the job, & well. Some beautiful to the eyes goals, especially the Ratikic free-kick & the Iniesta power-shoot. The goals fell in this order:
  • Ratikic 12th min, 0 - 1
  • Iniesta 16th min , 0 - 2
  • Pedro 39th min, 0 - 3
  • Rafinha 72nd min, 0 - 4
Barça has the tie virtually in the bag, but still has to host Huesca for the return 2º leg game.

Granada won Cordoba 1 - 0 with the goal from Cordoba. Ironic that the goalscorer has the same surname as the losing side.

More scheduled Spanish Cup games tomorrow.

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA ROUND 11 SUNDAY GAMES FINAL RESULTS

Spanish Football Liga continued today with the four remaining Round 11 games scheduled. Following are all the final results along with all the goalscorers.

Spanish Football Liga 2014-2015

Another missed opportunity for Sevilla FC after drawing 1 - 1 with Levante. A mistake from Sevilla goalkeeper Beto help lead to the 85th min equalizer for Levante through Victor. Earlier Sevilla went ahead through a Vitolo header in the 30th min.

The gained point today now puts Sevilla 4 points behind the Liga leader Real Madrid. Losing steam perhaps?

Spanish Football Liga 2014-2015

Entertaining game of Football between RCD Espanyol & Villarreal which finished in a 1 - 1 draw. Mario put Villarreal ahead in the 25th min, but it was the perseverance & the last part of the match charge that allowed Espanyol to draw in the last moments. Colotto scored the equalizer for Espanyol in the 91st min when he hooked onto a loose ball that came off Villarreal goalie Asenjo. A just final result.

Spanish Liga 2014 - 2015

Valencia CF drew 0 - 0 against a determined & "rocky" Athletic Club Bilbao. Bad result for Valencia as they, like rival Sevilla FC, "drop off" the top classification positions relative to Real Madrid. Chances to both sides with Valencia perhaps the more ineffective upfront. In fact, Bilbao had the clearer opportunities in the last moments & could have won.
Liga 2014-2015

If Sevilla FC & Valencia  CF let go opportunities & points today Atletico de Madrid went backwards in a serious manner after losing 2 - 1 away to Real Sociedad. The loss removed the chance for Atletico to sit in second place on the classification table just a point behind leader Real Madrid, instead they sit now in 4th place.

Atletico de Madrid started well with a 10th min goal from Mandzukic, but it all went haywire with Real Sociedad turning things around & putting the visitors on the back foot. The equalizer came in the 15th min from Carlos Vela & Atletico never got back their game. The match got rough & tough with plenty of yellow cards & even with "unseen" penalties that would have favoured Real Sociedad.

Things finally got uphill for Atletico de Madrid when they lost defender Siqueira to a red card (double yellow) in the 49th min. From here Atletico defended while Real Sociedad had control eventually leading to the winning goal in the 83rd min through Agirretxe.

Big loss for Atletico, but deserved win to Real Sociedad which will get a boost of confidence to get themselves out of the lower end of the Liga table & attempt to turn around their horror start to the season.

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA ROUND 10 SUNDAY GAMES FINAL RESULTS

Spanish Football Round 10 Liga continued today with the following final results & goalscorers.

Athletic Club Bilbao justly defeated Sevilla FC 1 - 0 thanks to a great goal for Aduriz in the 12th min, & in doing so has avoided that Sevilla FC take the leadership spot of Spanish League classification table. Great work & performance from Bilbao which naturalized a flighty Sevilla FC which was today sterile with their opportunities. The three points for Bilbao are an important shot in the arm as the win will boost their confidence in their "shocker" season start.

Spanish Liga 2014-2015

Valencia CF visited fellow Regional Club Villarreal & took the "derby" winning 1 - 3 & take the second place of the Liga classification table tied with Atletico de Madrid & a single point away from the new leader Real Madrid. Valencia showed tonight that they are no surprise & are a strong alternative for the Liga title. Great match from Valencia especially from Piatti & defender Mustafi with two goals

Spanish Liga 2014-2015

The goals fell in the following manner:
  • Trigueros (own goal) 6th min, 0 - 1
  • Mustafi 63rd min, 0 - 2
  • Mustafi 73rd min, 0 - 3
  • Trigueros 87th min, 1 - 3
Spanish Football 2014

Vital 2 - 1 victory for Levante over Almeria which manages to get the Clubs first home victory in front of their supporters. Almeria had their chances & opportunities in the 2º half but they were unable to hold the draw result. Goals for Levante by Barral in the 26th min & Victor in the 76th min, while for Almeria Jonathan scored in the 71st min

Elche defeated RCD Espanyol 2-1 with Elche player Jonathan scoring their two goals , while for Espanyol Stuani scored late.

Last scheduled Round 10 game, tomorrow Monday:
Rayo Vallecano - Eibar

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA ROUND 10 SATURDAY FINAL RESULTS

Spanish Football Liga in motion today with Round 10 matches. Here are all the final results with all the goalscorers.

Spanish Football Liga 2014-2015

The Round 10 fixture started on Friday night with the Deportivo A Coruña & Getafe match. Both teams needed the victory but the 3 points went to Getafe with a 1 - 2 final result. Th two goals for Getafe came through Yoda in the 34th min & Lafita in the 45th min. The only Depor goal came from Postinga in the 79th min.

Spanish Football Liga 2014-2015

Granada hosted Real Madrid & were relatively comfortably defeated 0 - 4. Real Madrid could have scored much more but failed in their final finishes, something similar with Granada which had their best chances in the second half but lacked effectiveness.

Real Madrid are on a roll, a sweet period, with everything virtually going their way. Their characteristic quick counter-attacks were today in full fight, along with midfield touch Football & pressure defending. The first goal came in the 2nd min when Benzema found Cristiano Ronaldo who scored. The second was a magical shot from James Rodriguez in the 31st min that surprised everyone. The third came from Benzema in the 53rd min after Ronaldo served with a back heel, with the fourth in the 85th min from James Rodriguez with CR7 again involved.

Special mention to Modric & Kroos who dominanted the midfield & put the rhythm.

Liga 2014-2015

Atletico de Madrid hosted Cordoba & won 4 - 2 in a fairly controlled game that had opposition reaction in the second half with some defensive Atletico relaxing. The "Director of the Orchestra" was Atletico de Madrid midfielder Koke whose pin point crossing guided most of his teams goals.

Atletico managed to open the Cordoba "defensive can" in the 44th min with Griezmann scoring with a defender knock-on. Cordoba came out  fighting in the second half & equalized through a Ghilas corner header in the 52nd min. However, the home side shut the door on Cordoba with a second goal in the 58th min when Griezmann headed home, followed by a third soon after in the 62nd min with a Mandzukic header. Atletico then scored the sealer & their fourth with a Raul Garcia 80th min header. But while At. Madrid relaxed Cordoba got a second goal through Ghilas in the 87th min.

The win by Atletico de Madrid puts pressure on their rivals at the top of the Liga ladder.

Barça - Celta

FC Barcelona lost 0 - 1 at home to Celta de Vigo. Shock result, the second straight defeat in Liga for Barça that will open up further debate about the team, the Coach, Pique being left out, internal issues etc & etc. Added to all this Barça loses its Liga table leader status with close rivals jumping ahead.

Celta was never going to be easy, their solid foundation was built last season under the now Barça Coach Luis Enrique. Spirited, ambitious & with clear Football ideas not only did Celta fend off the countless Barça attacks, but when given a chance capitalised. The winner came from a magical Nolito touch that set up Larrivey to score in the 55th min. From here onwards Barça looked for the equalizer but failed to be effective along with a rock solid Celta goalie Sergio

Good win for Celta which has proved they are not a "flash in the pan". While at Barça reflective times ahead to clear some internal issues, recover some "lost players" (e.g. Messi) & get back on the rails. Lastly, yes, Neymar hit the bar in the first half (along with three other "wood work" hits ) & this could have changed the course of the game had the ball gone in, but it didn't.

Real Sociedad lost at home 0 - 1 to Malaga FC. The locals were not happy & they have reason to not be glad, their team lacks ideas & is ineffective upfront. Added to this if psychologically your not 100% & your fans are on top of you from the sidelines, then things get complicated. REAL MADRID | WINTER MARKET 2015 RUMOURS

Double news coming out of Portugal & England from their local press with reference to Spanish Football Club Real Madrid speculating about the possible future of two key players.

The defensive problems facing Manchester City this season has resulted in the English Club seeking a signing of importance for the month of January 2015 in the "Winter Market". According to the Portuguese newspaper "A Bola" Real Madrid defender Pepe is the chosen option for Manchester City. The English Premier League Club would be willing to make an offer of 10M€ to Real Madrid for the services of the Central Defender. In my option a bit too low for the Spanish Club to consider.

REAL MADRID

Staying with Real Madrid, more rumours from British newspaper "Daily Express" that ensures that Real Madrid has French International & Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on their agenda just in case in January 2015 - "Winter Market" current goalkeeper Iker Casillas decides to make a move elsewhere. Real Madrid values a 24M€ bid as a starter to make with the signing of the French footballer.

REAL MADRID

In both the Pepe & Iker Casillas cases it is highly unlikely that they will make a move in the upcoming "Winter Market". However, this is totally different in both cases for the end of the season. There are real possibilities that each could leave, especially Iker Casillas who is rumoured to already have a pre-agreement with Monaco, a pre-agreement flexible enough to break if another Club makes a better offer.

MANCHESTER UNITED TARGETS GERARD PIQUE ?

According to Spanish Sports daily "Sport", English Premier League Club Manchester United is firmly intent in making a bid for FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique. The English team managed & Coached by Louis Van Gaal wants to have the services of the Spanish International central defender, & from England the news is that the Club is willing to offer 25M € for the player.

The English paper the 'Daily Star' explains that the 'red devils' look at Pique as an ideal choice in the market because of his past experience at the Club & because the FC Barcelona player has not fully settled into Barça Coach Luis Enrique plans.

FC Barcelona 2014

The defensive fragility that Manchester United is experiencing this season is the main argument. However, the signing by Manchester United of Gerard Pique is high unlikely at this stage. For starters, the offer price by Man Utd. is too low for FC Barcelona to accept, while the player is firmly embedded in the city & culture of Barcelona (Catalonia region) with his growing family. Said all this, Gerard Pique is a "volatile" personality with frequent "out of the norm" behaviour on & off the field. It may be that one of his peculiar events may encourage him to find a "new place", Manchester United could thus then be his better option.

THE RETURN OF LUIS SUAREZ | FC BARECLONA

The term, "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel", has never been so true for Uruguayan & FC Barcelona forward Luis Suarez. The player ends his 4 month ban from playing football - official games - next Friday. Consequently, the next day Saturday, the first Spanish Football season "Clasico" between Real Madrid & FC Barcelona is scheduled, thus allowing Suarez to be available for Barça Coach Luis Enrique if he decides to use this valuable Football resource.

FC BARCELONA 2014

The player has expressed to media that he is glad that this "personal nightmare" is coming to an end. Luis Suarez even feared for his Football future that perhaps FC Barcelona may have retired their original signing interest after his World Cup "biting incident".

The logic suggests that Suarez start on the bench next Saturday against Real Madrid & only participate perhaps the last part of the game. However, his Coach Luis Enrique may think otherwise  & go into the clash with all the available fire power up front.

Either way, everyone is looking forward to seeing Suarez back on the Football field, playing in the Spanish Football Liga & watching his goal skills in action. From here we wish Luis Suarez good luck & can say officially, welcome to Spanish Football.

ATLETICO DE MADRID TARGETING SEMIH KAYA OF GALATASARAY?

From Spanish Sports daily "Marca" comes the news that Atletico de Madrid is close to reaching an agreement with Turkish Football Club Galatasaray for their central defender Semih Kaya, news apparently also backed by Turkish television NTV. According to NTV, Atletico de Madrid owner Miguel Angel Gil was recently in Istanbul & meet with representatives of Kaya & Galatasaray. Does this indicate that Atletico de Madrid is covering their back in case one of their current central defender leave next season?

Semih Kaya is 23 years old player who has already played 19 times with Turkey. According to the NTV reports, English Premier League Club Manchester United is also interested in the Turkish central.

Almeria hosted Atletico de Madrid & lost 0 - 1 to a corner header which Atletico de Madrid defender Godin converted for the winner. However, Almeria was sticky & disruptive the earlier part of the game & during the latter were dangerous when they attempted to take advantage of the tiring visitors. Atletico played well but missed numerous chances to have "killed off" the match earlier. Said all this the three points will make Atletico happy.

SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA 2014-2015

The local hero was Leo Baptistao, on loan from At Madrid, who scored both goals, including  the winner in the 89th min. Earlier the Rayo player equalized for his team in the 39th min taking advantage of a Iraizoz (Bilbao goalie) mistake. SPANISH FOOTBALL LIGA 2014-2015

Sevilla FC won Real Sociedad 1 - 0 with the winner in the 19th min from on-loan Barça forward Deulofeu. Sevilla went from strong to less, while the visitors picked up their Football in the second half giving the home team a headache. In the end Sevilla held on.
