LUKA MODRIC | FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2018 WINNER

Croatian International & Real Madrid midfielder LUKA MODRIC has been proclaimed "FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL WINNER 2018" in tonight's ceremony held in Paris, France. The Croatian breaks the Messi - Cristiano Ronaldo 10 year straight hegemony to win at the age of 33 years & after an extraordinary Football year for the Croatian Captain.

Luka Modric was prized ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo (2º), Antoine Griezmann (3º), Kylian Mbappe (4º) & Lionel Messi (5º).

France Football Golden Ball Award 2018 Winner

The other winners tonight were:

ADA HEGERBERG player of Olympique de Lyon & Norway International won the first ever "FRANCE FOOTBALL FEMALE GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2018", &

KYLIAN MBAPPE player of Paris St Germain & French International won the "KOPA TROPHY" for the Best U21 Player in World Football.

France Football also dedicated part of the ceremony to praise the FRANCE WORLD CUP TEAM for winning the FIFA World Cup, something to expect under the circumstances & who the organizers are, France Football.

To finish, just two notes:

1. Hours before the ceremony & the official announcement of the Golden Ball winner, the list of players, placing & points was filtered out to media. Perhaps its a custom to "prepare" everyone for the occasion. Who knows.

GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2018 standing list

2. Once again CRISTIANO RONALDO pulled his party trick. Knowing beforehand that he would not win, the Juventus FC player decided not to attend tonight's ceremony. This went contrary to 3º placed Griezmann who also knew beforehand he would not win a prize he has desired & called for himself, but attended keeping a smile & commenting he was there due to respect to the other players.

Cristiano Ronaldo once again shows his egoistic personality, & disrespect for other players & in this case, Luka Modric ex-teammate who helped him win his Champions League titles which contributed to his own passed Golden Ball Award title.

Cristiano Ronaldo has lost respect & if it would be possible, I would remove his passed Golden Ball Awards as his behaviour & actions go against the values of the Sport: team spirit, competitive but respectful & acknowledgement to those who are better.

To conclude, absolutely shameful & disgusting the attitude shown by Cristiano Ronaldo for not attending

From here congratulations to Luka Modric, his family, friends & Croatia will be proud & happy for this well earned Football Award.

LA LIGA DOMINATES THE FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL CANDIDATES

France Football made public today their initial 30 candidates for the upcoming FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2018. The winner will be announced the 3rd of December in Paris.

Golden Ball Award 2018

However, the news from our point of view is the domination of LALIGA with 14 candidates, that is, 14 names that play in the Spanish Football League:

Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Courtois, Isco, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Varane, Sergio Ramos, Godin, Griezmann, Oblak, Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suárez & Messi
.

The next League with most candidates are:
  • English Premier (11), followed by
  • Ligue 1 France (3)
  • Serie A Italy (2),
surprisingly the Bundesliga has none.

CRISTIANO RONALDO WINS HIS 4TH GOLDEN BALL AWARD

France Football has announced this afternoon the winner of the "GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2016". It is now official Portuguese and Real Madrid player CRISTIANO RONALDO has won his 4th prize.  Its his 3rd "Ballon d´Or" with Real Madrid, the other being with Manchester United.

Golden Ball Award winner 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo won the vote from 173 specialist Football journalists, ahead of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. His 4th Award puts Cristiano Ronaldo in the highest end of the elite list of multiple winners.

Multiple Golden Ball Award winners:
Lionel Messi: 5 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015)
Cristiano Ronaldo: 4 (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016)
Michel Platini: 3 (1983, 1984, 1985)
Johan Cruyff: 3 (1971, 1973, 1974)
Marco Van Basten: 3 (1988, 1989, 1992)
Franz Beckenbauer: 2 (1972, 1976)
Ronaldo: 2 (1997, 2002)
Alfredo Di Stéfano: 2 (1957, 1959)
Kevin Keegan: 2 (1978, 1979)
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: 2 (1980, 1981)

From here we send our sincerest congratulations

FIFA FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL 2014 FINAL THREE CANDIDATES

FIFA - France Football has announced the final three candidates for the 2014 Golden Ball Award. No surprises to most Football observers & followers:
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
  • Lionel Messi (Argentina)
  • Manuel Neuer (Germany)
I personally would not have included Lionel Messi, but his last few performances has put him back into the frontline.

FIFA FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL 2014 CANDIDATES

In fact, the winner will be assured to be hammered with debate & controversy. FIFA President Blatter & UEFA President have already publicly said that they feel a German (a World Cup Winner) should be given the prize this year, obviously citing Neuer. But if the criteria is the "Best Player" for a whole session - 2014 - then Cristiano Ronaldo is on another level to both Neuer & Messi. Let me remind you that back in 2010 Spain won the World Cup, & with the current arguments of Blatter & Platini, the winner then should have been Andres Iniesta (or Iker Casillas). It was Messi which was indeed very surprising to everyone at that time & caused plenty of debate.

As Franck Ribery said recently, the Golden Ball Award has become more political award full of economic interests which sways the vote & points to the eventual winner.

In any case, the official winning name will be handed in & announced the 12th of January 2015.

FIFA - FRANCE FOOTBALL 2014 GOLDEN BALL AWARD LIST 23 CANDIDATES

FIFA & France Football published this morning the list of 23 candidates up for the "2014 FIFA Golden Ball Award". As expected Spanish Football is represented well with Real Madrid having 6 players: Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos & Cristiano Ronaldo , while FC Barcelona has 4 players: Neymar, Iniesta, Mascherano & Messi.

It is now up to the National Teams Selectors & Captains, along with the designated World Football journalists to place their votes. The final 3 candidates will then be announced on the 1st of December to then have to wait until the 12th of January 2015 when the winner will be announced at the FIFA Gala in Zurich.

FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2011 - 23 CANDIDATE LIST | FC BARCELONA HAS 8 CANDIDATES REAL MADRID HAS 5 CANDIDATES

SPANISH SPORTS paper based in Barcelona "Mundo Deportivo" has advanced the "exclusive" news that EIGHT FC BARCELONA players have made the cut of 23 player candidates for this years FIFA GOLDEN BALL AWARD. REAL MADRID has FIVE players in the 23 candidate cut, "leaked" tonight by the Barcelona paper.

Days back FRANCE FOOTBALL handed in their initial list of 50 FIFA Golden Ball players, that has been now cut back to 23 players.

courtesy: Mundo Deportivo

The eight Barça players are Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Cesc, Villa, Alves & Abidal. The five Real Madrid players are Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso , Ozil & Benzema. France Football will make the full list of 23 players official tomorrow. Along with the list will be published the 10 Top Coaches Candidates which includes Vicente Del Bosque ( Spanish National Team), Josep Guardiola ( FC Barcelona) & José Mourinho (Real Madrid).

The lists are "odd" (some "obvious names are missing) & this has lead many media observers to suspect that "Big Marketing" interests may be "pressuring" to give the list variety & new names. Plus the "conspiracy" theory journalists suspect that those same interests wish to avoid a final 3 candidates situation from the same Club as occurred last year with Xavi, Iniesta & Messi all from Barça.

Note, this is a "leaked" Mundo Deportive "exclusive" & we should all await the official list from France Football tomorrow to be 100% sure.

CRISTIANO RONALDO & SPANISH FOOTBALL WINS IN THE "FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL" AWARDS 2008

France Football has announced its “Golden Ball” ( “Best Player In The
World”) Award winner for 2008; it’s Portuguese & MANCHESTER
UNITED
forward CRISTIANO RONALDO with 446pts, two points
more than last years winner Brazilian Kaka.

However, Spanish Football (Soccer) should be congratulated as the next
4 placed players are either Spanish born or currently at Spanish Clubs.
The second placed with the “Silver Ball” is FC BARCELONA Argentine
star LIONEL MESSI with 281 pts, with third place & “Bronze Ball”
going to Spanish International & FC LIVERPOOL forward FERNANDO
TORRES
with 179 pts.

A fourth place goes to the REAL MADRID goalkeeper IKER CASILLAS,
fifth place to FC BARCELONA midfielder XAVI HERNANDEZ &
seventh is for VALENCIA CF striker DAVID VILLA.

As we can see great news for Spanish Football all round, & SFS
congratulates all concerned for their great season & prize.

KAKA ENDORSES DAVID VILLA FOR "GOLDEN BALL AWARD"

Last years "France Football Golden Ball" winner Brazilian &
AC MILAN midfielder KAKA, has publically gone on record to

give his "thumbs up" & support to Spanish International &
VALENCIA CF forward DAVID VILLA for this years prize.

Kaka considers that David Villa should be in the Top 5 places, if
not, at least fighting for the 2009 "Golden Ball". He considers Villa as
vital for the Spanish National Team & a factor in its Euro 2008 title,
plus
Villa´s current goal scoring streak is very impressive.

However, Villa is competing with 6 other Spaniards: Torres, Xavi, Senna,
Ramos, Casillas & Cesc, & not to mention the hot favourites Cristiano
Ronaldo & Lionel Messi. Stiff opposition who have won more titles & have

done more than Villa, even though he has the endorsement of a great
player like Kaka as support.

FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2008: 5 CANDIDATES

Spanish daily "Marca" has run the story on this years upcoming
France Football Golden Ball Award. According to most experts
it´s a "5 horse" race, as France Football cuts its list to 30 candidates
on the 21st of October.

CRISTIANO RONALDO (Manchester United)
The hot favourite. However, doubts have set in after a very poor
Euro2008 performance & poor start in this seasons Premier League
due to his ankle operation.

LIONEL MESSI
(FC Barcelona)

His evolution is steady & improving, his is currently at & beyond the
level of Cristiano Ronaldo. An Olympic Gold medal & a great
start to
the Spanish League has put him up there & if he can put in some more
great exhibitions he will be very close.

FERNANDO TORRES
(Liverpool FC)
The Golden boy of Spanish & now World Football. Great media
attraction, he complements it with goals, lots of goals. Vital part
of his team in Premier & Champions with decisive goals, apart
for the Spanish National team - the winner in the Euro 2008
final against Germany.

IKER CASILLAS
(Real Madrid CF)
The Real Madrid goalkeeper has had an extraordinary last season. He
stopped everything & saved his team from defeats. Won the Spanish
League title & Euro 2008 stopping 2 penalties against Italy in the
Q/Finals. However, goalkeepers have´nt a good record in this award
as they are not as media "attractive" as forwards

XAVI HERNANDEZ
(FC Barcelona)
Best Midfielder of Euro 2008, excellent start to the Spanish League with
goals & clinical balls to forwards. Xavi is finally getting the recognition
he deserves for his talents.

L`EQUIPE PUTS FERNANDO TORRES & IKER CASILLAS AS FAVOURITES FOR THE GOLDEN BALL

According to French Football Magazine "L´Equipe" Spanish
Football players FERNANDO TORRES & IKER CASILLAS
are firm favourites for this years
FRANCE FOOTBALL GOLDEN
BALL AWARD
( Best World Player for 2007/2008). This is an
important message, as "L`Equipe" belongs to the same publishing

house as "France Football" & is seen as an important & reliable
source.

"L´Equipe" go as far as to mention their Top 5 players, & in the
order they believe is most accurate are the following: Fernando
Torres
( as Winner); C.Ronaldo; Iker Casillas; Andrei Arshavin &
Leo Messi.

The fact that Torres has scored 33 goals last season in all competitions
& winning the European Nations Cup with Spain (with the winning goal)
has catapulted Fernando Torres as Golden Ball favourite for 2008. "L´
Equipe" go as far to say that Cristiano Ronaldo disappointed & was not

up to the level expected from him at Euro 2008 & that has hurt his chances
at winning the prize.

SFS feels that this is pure speculation & that the first months of the new

season will determine who finally wins. SFS puts its bets on Cristiano
Ronaldo, specially if he signs for Real Madrid which will launch himself into

Media & Superstar status.

KAKA - FRANCE FOOTBALL OFFICIAL "GOLDEN BALL" 2007 AWARD WINNER

SFS picked up the news on the 25th Nov & announced that AC MILAN
star KAKA had won the France Football "Golden Ball" Award, as the
Best Football Player in the World for 2007. Now its OFFICIAL with
Kaka picking up 444votes with 2º place going to Cristian Ronaldo
(Man Utd) with 277votes & 3º place going to Spanish based Argentine
sensation Messi ( Fc Barcelona ) with 255votes.

The highest placed Spaniard is Arsenal midfielder CESC FABREGAS

with 8th place & 27votes, a great achievement for such a young player
who can only get better with time.

SFS wishes to congratulate the winner & rest of place getters.

For thoses who enjoy the stats & history of the Award, see below the
