Although this blog has a high percentage (a majority) of Spanish Football content, as its title suggest, there is space for other Sports, especially when Spanish Sportsman rise to the highest level. It is again an enormous pleasure & honour to announce that Spanish Tennis Player & World Nº1 Rafael Nadal has won his 9th French Open Title this afternoon.
Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 in a titanic struggle between two giants of World Tennis. The Spaniard came back from behind to grind his way in front & hold off an improving Djokovic & his continuous attacks. In fact, post-match the Nadal technical team commented that if the match would have gone into a 5th set, Rafael would have struggled. The Spanish World Nº1 was taken to the limits of this physical & mental capacities to manage to win the 4th & decisive set. Djokovic was again outstanding but as will other occasions the mental aspects of the game were better managed by Nadal, & this was the key.
Words have all be used & published to express & explain Rafael Nadal. With 28 years of age the player equals Peter Sampras with 14 grand slams & is 3 away from the Historical Record of 17 held by Roger Federer. The French Open has become his place with an amazing 9 titles & is the undisputed "King of Clay". The man has still up to 2 - 3 years left of top level Tennis to keep gaining more titles & the limits are unknown.
From a Spanish perspective, not only is Nadal the Greatest ever Spanish Tennis player but the Greatest Spanish Sportsman in History. The player is the Nations ambassador & model for the younger generation.
Without more Words to describe this "one in a lifetime" phenomenon, all I can say is congratulations & thank you again Rafa!

SPANISH SPORTS | RAFAEL NADAL CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 2º US OPEN TITLE
With the time difference between New York & Madrid - 6 hours - many Spaniards were in bed sleeping when Spanish Tennis Player Rafael Nadal was lifting his second US OPEN Tennis title after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the the Final. Its the 60 title for Nadal & his 13th Grand Slam, the victory closes the gap on the Nº1 ranking position placing Nadal just 120 points behind Djokovic.
The Spanish Tennis ace acknowledged that it was a difficult & a hard worked match, commenting that Djokovic always takes him to his Tennis limits. A victory the was emotional for Rafael Nadal who last year was contemplating retiring if he could not overcome his serious knee injuries. But this title was another cherry to his personal Tennis season cake as he has been unbeatable on fast surface.
There is not much more to say about the match as I was in deep sleep & did not watch the game being beamed on pay TV in Spain. What I do know is that the 3rd set & the incredible comeback from a possible break by Nadal seemed to psychologically hit hard Djokovic & opened up the decisive 4th set for the Spaniard.
All I wish to do here is to dedicate a post today to Spain's "Greatest Sportsman of all Time" with only 27 years of age. An extraordinary Sportsman & Tennis player along with being an example to all of us as a person.
If the knees of Nadal hold out we could be installed for more great finals & games, encounters with Djokovic & more Tennis Titles. Congratulation Rafael Nadal, your an example & a reference for Spanish Sports & all Spaniards.

SPANISH SPORTS | RAFAEL NADAL TAKES FRENCH OPEN RECORD EIGHT STRAIGHT WIN
First man ever in the history of the French Open to win the title 8 times in a row, & for that matter a Grand Slam tournament 8 times in a row. Spanish Sportsman & Tennis player Rafael Nadal defeated another Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 in the 2013 French Open Final.
Emotional win for Nadal who has gone through a "personal hell" with knee injury that had him off the circuit for months. In fact, Nadal doubted at times if he could once again find his top form or if his injuries would force him prematurely to retire.
Amazing comeback this season with 8 straight finals ( 7 wins ) to jump into the record books & once again serve as an example to all people on how one can overcome difficulties if they believe.
Greatest Spanish Sportsman in History & a Tennis legend at 27 years of age. The man has still years of great Tennis ahead - if no injuries come into play - & his next objective will be Wimbledon
Congratulations Rafael Nadal once again, thank you for being the perfect Spanish Sports ambassador & Champion. Also congratulations to runner-up Spaniard David Ferrer for his great Tennis & for being another grand ambassador of Spanish Tennis & Sports.

SPANISH TENNIS | RAFAEL NADAL WINS INDIAN WELLS MASTERS 1000
Spanish Sportsman & greatest Spanish Tennis Player in History Rafael Nadal has gained his third Masters 1000 Indian Wells title after defeating Argentine ace Juan Martin Del Potro 6-4, 3 - 6, 6 - 4. The Spaniard in gaining this title jumps up the World Ranking to the N º 4 position after 7 months out recovering from a near career ending problem with his knees.
See-saw stuff with both players at their limit, were perhaps the mental strength of Nadal tipped the difference in the third set in his favour. Nadal came to Indian Wells to test his knees on hard surface & needed an opponent of the class & calibre of Del Potro to benchmark his recovery. The final result was an end to a long suffering road were it was day to day objectives to get back into the circuit, back into form & back into the winning ways.
Rafael Nadal will not not go onto Florida for the 2º Masters 1000 as he wishes to rest his knees & not risk as he puts his mind forward onto the European clay court circuit where he historically has been unbeatable.
This is his 600 victory as a professional, his 52nd title & the player with most Masters 1000 with 22, which puts him ahead Federer (21), Agassi (17) & Djokovic (13).
Spanish Tennis needed Rafa back as did World Tennis. The man has suffered during theses last 7 months & today's victory must be emotional. Rafael will be back in competition in Montecarlo on clay.
Welcome back Champ!

SPANISH SPORTS | TENNIS | RAFAEL NADAL WINS MEXICAN OPEN
Best Sporting news read this morning. Spanish Tennis ace Rafael Nadal won the Mexican Open in Acapulco in stunning fashion & continues on with his recovery. The Spanish Champion won fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6 - 0 , 6 - 2 in 65 minutes. Rafael Nadal said that it was his best game in a very long-time, I add that it was also a relief to experience that his knees are holding up well & the he is gaining his form. This Final was against an excellent "sparring" partner & another Spanish Tennis Champ that gives Nadal an excellent benchmark on his progress & to decide if he goes onto Indian Wells Masters, a tournament on hard surface not great for his delicate knees.
But the real joy here is that Rafael Nadal is seeing the light out of his personal tunnel. The man has suffered months of severe pain & doubts on whether he could carry on with his Tennis career. The fighting spirit of the player is taking him pass the uncertainty & returning believed lost sensations Spanish Sports needs it greatest representative in action & World Tennis needs Rafael Nadal back in top form. As Nadal has said many a time, its a step by step, game by game process at this moment. I am delighted at this big leap & hope that it continues on forward & positively.

TENNIS BRAZILIAN OPEN | WELCOME BACK RAFAEL NADAL
Spanish Tennis ace RAFAEL NADAL has won the Brazilian Open at Sao Paulo this afternoon defeating Argentine DAVID NALBANDIAN 6 - 2 6 - 3 in the Final. The Brazilian Championship is not the main event, although important & another title for Rafa, the big news is that the Tennis player is back after a 7 month break healing a serious knee injury.
Rafael Nadal has earned himself a place in Spanish Sport as its greatest Sportsman in History. The player stopped & withdrew from the World Tennis circuit when his knees said "stop". Doctors advised Nadal to halt all activities & heal his injured knees or perhaps risk never playing again. Tough decision, pain & months of rehabilitation suffering both psychically & emotionally to attempt to get back & play. Champions material & stuff indeed.
He himself has admitted that he cannot guarantee that he will regain his top level that lead him to win so many titles & put him in the Nº 1 ranking of World Tennis. The Spaniard has to take it game by game & tournament by tournament nursing his knees & choosing well his competition. Its not the same a clay court from a cement surface to a grass court.
Nadal this afternoon has made a step forward in his long road to recovery. From here we send out a big hug to Rafa & wish him luck in the next weeks & games. It is a happy day for Spanish Sport & we all should be happy as Spain regains one of its favourite sons & best ambassadors.

RAFAEL NADAL WINS HIS 7TH FRENCH OPEN | PLUS MAKES HISTORY
This post is old news almost 6 hours later. Impossible to post on time as I was earning a living at my employment & blogging is not my function during working hours. RAFAEL NADAL WINS HIS SIXTH ROMA MASTERS 1000 TITLE
Playing on a Monday at 12.00 makes it difficult for the working folk ( myself included ) to watch a great Final of Tennis. That was the case for the ROMA MASTERS 1000 Mens Final between NOVAK DJOKOVIC & Spaniard RAFAEL NADAL as it was delayed from Sunday due to the bad weather.
Spanish Sports & Tennis got a great boost with the news that Nadal shook off the "Djokovic Finals Boogy" & managed to defeat the Serb in 2 hours & 21 mins with a 7-5 6-3 final score. Yes, Djokovic had a bad day & made plenty of mistakes but Nadal managed to get the psychological edge, played great & of course was playing on his favourite surface which is clay .
The victory gives Nadal his sixth Roma title & puts him back into the Nº2 World Ranking position, plus it gives the Spaniard a boost for the upcoming Roland Garros Tournament.
Congratulations Champ!

SPANISH TENNIS | NADAL WINS CONDE GODO 2012
Spanish World Nº2 ranked Tennis player RAFAEL NADAL added another title to his long list when he defeated fellow Spaniard DAVID FERRER 7-6 7-5 in the Final of the Conde Godo tournament in Barcelona. It was the 7th consecutive title for Nadal on his favourite surface, clay, which adds more weight to his legendary status on the mentioned surface. Nadal nothced his 34th victory on clay, 6 behind another great the Austrian Tomas Muster with 40 wins & 11 away from the Argentine Guillermo Vilas.
The victory was not easy for Nadal & it took more than 2 hours to manage to win a fiery & super competitive David Ferrer which had Rafa on the ropes on various occasions. As we have all become accustomed to, it was the "fighting" spirit of Nadal that managed to pull the player out of awkward situations & onto the victory. Congrats to both players for a great exhibition of clay court tennis.

SPANISH TENNIS | NADAL DEFEATS DJOKOVIC IN MONTE CARLO FINAL
Great news this afternoon for Spanish Sports & Tennis with the victory of RAFAEL NADAL over NOVAK DJOKOVIC in the Final of the Monte Carlo MASTERS 1000 tournament. Not only did Nadal defeat the World Nº1 ranked Tennis player Djokovick 6-3 6-1, but it was the Spaniards 8th consecutive Monte Carlos title which set a new World Record in Tennis being the first to win the same tournament 8 times in a row.
Nadal managed also to break the head to head winning encounters with Djokovic who had defeated the Spaniard in the last 7 finals they have played. It is clear that the "clay court" is the natural playing surface on which Nadal feels more comfortable & this will be a confidence booster for the upcoming French Open.
From here, congratulations to Nadal.

SPANISH SPORTS | RAFAEL NADAL LOSES AUSTRALIAN TENNIS FINAL & SPAIN LOSSES IN HANDBALL
Serbian World Nº1 Tennis player NOVAK DJOKOVIC starts the 2012 Tennis season as he finished last, winning the 2012 AUSTRALIAN OPEN 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 & 7-5 Spanish player & World Nº 2 RAFAEL NADAL is a historical match that lasted nearly 6 hours.
The Spaniard started well to take the first set, but Djokavic reacted over-powering Nadal with his serve & stroke shots to take the second & third set. The fourth was Nadal in his "pure state" playing with his heart & courage to force a fifth set after taking the tie-break. Nadal had Djokavic on the ropes in the fifth after breaking his serve but the Serb won it back & never looked back again.
Rafael Nadal once again falls to the power-play of the Serb in another Grand Slam final. In the end the result came down to fine details, & in the case of Nadal , some bad decisions in crucial moments of the game. The Spaniard has "lost" his "killer instinct" as his only playing flaw is that once he has his opponent "down", Nadal fails to finish off the work with a clean "kill". This allows his adversaries - Djokavic in this case - to clean their wounds & lift to fight again having learnt the lesson. Said differently, keeps letting off the hook his main opponents, today not being any different.
Congratulations to Djokavic for his extraordinary performance & victory, well deserved. I have no doubt we will be seeing again Djokavic - Nadal in more Tennis finals this season.
Staying with SPANISH SPORTS, SPAIN lost to CROATIA 31 - 27 in the third place ( Bronze Medal ) match of the European HANDBALL Championships.
One of those days I suppose were nothing goes right ...Congrats to Croatia!

TENNIS | RAFAEL NADAL LOSES TO DJOKOVIC IN THE WIMBLEDON 2011 FINAL
Tennis
Spanish Sportsman & Tennis ace RAFAEL NADAL was defeated this afternoon in the Final of WIMBLEDON 2011 by Serbian & new World Tennis Nº 1 ranked player NOVAK DJOKOVIC 6 - 4, 6 - 1, 1- 6 , 6- 3. Djokovic wins his first ever Wimbledon Tournament & defeats Nadal for the 5th straight time in a final. The Serb is having a superb season which kicked off with the Australian Open & has basically won evrything ( except Roland Garros ) ever since.
Rafael Nadal was fairly beaten today by a greater & more efficient Djokovic in what turned into a "complicate" game for the Spanish ace. Lots of unforced errors & a more aggresive opponent put Nadal against the ropes after the first two sets went to the Serb. As one could expect, Nadal fought back admirably & as a true Champ in true grit fashion to take the third set & at least open a door to a possible come-back opportunity. However, Djokovic has improved inmensely in mental concentration & with his game to secure the tight situations & made sure that this Wimbledon title opprtunity would not get away.
Novak Djokovic will wake up tomorrow realising that it is all not a dream but a reality holding his Wimbledon Trophy firm in his hands & the World Nº 1 ranking. A well deserved prize for a very talented Tennis player, who has worked extremely hard & will no doubt win many more future titles.
Rafael Nadal will now get some well earned rest, transfer some of the pressure off his shoulders & onto Djokovic, & prepare for the next big challenge & battle that will be the US Open where he defends the title & may meet again his rival Djovokic.

SPANISH SPORTS | RAFAEL NADAL WINS HIS SIXTH FRENCH OPEN TENNIS TITLE
SPANISH SPORTS received another glorious historical moment this afternoon thanks to an extraordinary Spanish Sportsman. Spaniard & World Nº1 Tennis player RAFAEL NADAL won his 6th FRENCH OPEN title after defeating ROGER FEDERER 7-5, 7-6,5-7,6-1 in the 2011 Final in Paris France. The 25 year old Rafael Nadal equals the record feat of Bjorn Borg with six French Open titles, & no one doubts that the Spaniard canfor nada surpass this record mark in the future.
The road to the title has been difficult & hard worked for Nadal who came into this tournament with 4 straight Final defeats in the previous tournaments to rival Serb Novak Djokovic, in less than optimum form & with psychological doubts with his play. The response to all this has been an extraordinary effort to surpass himself in all aspects that once again highlights that we all are witnesses to a great Champion.
The game started totally in Federer favour with an aggressive start that caught Nadal cold, off guard & in doubts. The perseverance of the Spaniard allowed the him to came back from a 2 - 5 situation to take the first set 7 - 5. This was a key moment of the match & a psychological blow that Federer did not fully recover from totally although the Master came back in waves to show us some grand Tennis. The 3rd set was perhaps the Swiss best moment making a remarkable comeback from 2 - 4 to take the set 5 - 7. However, Rafael Nadal regained composure & kept his mind on the work still ahead to calm his nerves to breeze through the 4th s& winning set to become a French Open Tennis legend with his 6th title.
I have run out of words to describe both these gallant Sportsmen & Tennis players, but I choke to find more superlatives to add for Rafael Nadal. Without any doubt at all, Rafael Nadal is Spains greatest Sportsman in its History , & the man has only 25 years of age with more titles to win before he calls an end to his Tennis career.

SPANISH SPORTS | DJOKAVIC WINS NADAL AGAIN IN THE TENNIS ROMA 1000 MASTERS FINAL
SPANISH SPORTS, & especially the Tennis fans, are having a name "tattoed" on their forehead: NOVAK DJOKAVIC. The Serb managed to beat last years ROMA TENNIS MASTERS 1000 Champ & Spanish Nº1 RAFAEL NADAL 4-6 4-6 for a 4th straight time in a Final this year. The Serb is in a "State of Grace" that will take him soon onto the Nº1 World Spot if he can win the upcoming French Open, plus the surface does not seem to be a handicap at all as Djokavic has won on all types, except grass & that may not be a problem either.
Spaniard Rafael Nadal did not play badly at all, what occurred is that Novak just played better & seems to have the "mental" edge that gives the Serb wings. The only upcoming worry for Nadal in their future "head-to-head" matches is that Djokavic has overcome the "Nadal unbeatable on clay factor" & Nadal may be haunted with doubt in his play against his current rival.
Either way, the Tennis fan is the big winner here as both are giving spectators Tennis from another "Galaxy". We all now look forward to the French Open & if they will meet again. This time the Nº 1 World Tennis Ranking is up for grabs. Tweet

TENNIS | RAFAEAL NADAL GOES DOWN TO DJOKOVIC IN MASTERS 1000 MADRID FINAL
Spanish Tennis ace RAFAEL NADAL has gone down 5 - 7 ; 4 - 6 to Serbian NOVAK DJOKOVIC in the Tennis Final of the MASTERS 1000 MADRID. The Serbian continues his unbeatable run of victories which includes defeating Nadal in 3 straight finals this year. The victory today by Novak demonstrates that the Serb has real chances of grabbing the Nº1 spot off Nadal if he continues with his current form & has brushed off the unbeatable on clay aura surrounding Nadal for the last couple of years.
The final was magnificent with Novak beginning very aggressively & taking back Nadal who didn´t expect it. The Spaniard was already down 0 - 4 in the first set until Nadal admirably & as a true Champ fought back, but could´nt turn the initial advantage around.
Long playing shots, unbelievable psychical efforts by both players & a level that took things to the frontier of the Sport, the second set was a titan tassle that saw Djokovic finally break & he never looked back.
Well deserved victory for the Serb who will now be a sporting menace to Nadal on his favourite court, both personally & psychologically, that will continue all the year with the French Open around the corner.
We simply saw the next possible Nº1 Tennis player, who was superb tonight.

Its his 45 title, 31st on a clay court & the man has only 24 years of age. Totally undisputed by everyone that on a clay surface Rafael Nadal is almost unbeatable.
The runner-up David Ferrer put in a good match especially in the second set as he tried to counter Nadal but as already mentioned & acknowledged Nadal is like a "fish in water" on the red dusty surface.
Tennis continues with the MADRID OPEN beginning next week & with big names Djokovic & Federer all participating to once again make Tennis fans mouth water with a possible Nadal - Djokovic/Federer final. From here, congrats Rafa for another title.

TENNIS | RAFAEL NADAL WINS MONTE CARLO MASTERS 1000
Spanish World Nº 1 ranked Tennis player RAFAEL NADAL won the MONTE CARLO MASTERS 1000 after defeating fellow Spaniard DAVID FERRER 6 - 4 ; 7 - 5 in a tough & long drawn out game between two clay court specialists. In fact, the clay court is Nadal´s favourite surface & apart from being undispuested as the "Best Clay Court Player in the World", he notched up his 7th straight Monte Carlo Tennis title.
Excellent shot in the arm for Nadal that should lift his confidence after falling twice to Novak Djorkovic in the last two finals on quick surface. The Tennis season now gets into full swing in Europe where clay courts are the norm, that will culminate with the "King" of all clay courts : The French Open.
From here, congratulations to Nadal for the victory & for David Ferrer - another clay court expert - whom both managed to fly high the Spanish flag in World Tennis this afternoon.

TENNIS | RAFAL NADAL LOSES THE MIAMI MASTERS 1000 FINAL TO A MAGNIFICENT DJOKAVIK
Spanish Tennis World Nº1 RAFAEL NADAL again could not get over & win a spectacular & in form NOVAK DJOKAVIC after losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 in the Final of the 2011 MIAMI MASTER 1000. It was three hours of superb Tennis at the highest level as the game oscilated between both as the victory slipped from one player to the other in moments.
Nadal took the first set & looked well, but Djokavic has improved his mental & physical state & won back the control & put extreme pressure on Nadal taking the second set. The third set was totally balanced & anyone could have won, but Djokavic was the stronger & made less mistakes to take his 4th straight title this season. The Serbian goes now into the European circuit with the clay surface were Nadal is in theory the superior player, but Djokavic is in a "state of grace" & great tennis will be assured.
Congratulations to both for the great Tennis

TENNIS | NOVAK DJORKOVIC DEFEATS RAFAEAL NADAL IN FINAL OF MASTERS 1000 INDIAN WELLS
Spanish Tennis World Nº1 Tennis player RAFEAL NADAL could not manage to defeat a magnificent & strong NOVAK DJOKOVIC in the final of the MASTERS 1000 INDIAN WELLS Tennis Tournament. The Serb went from less to more taking Nadal to three sets & winning 6 - 4, 3 - 6 , 2 - 6 as the Spaniard experienced a radical drop in play & form after losing the second set. Djokovic finally manages to defeat Nadal in a final & break the "3 set" rule that said if taken to this number of sets Nadal always wins.
The Spanish ace started on fire & took the first set relatively easily. The second set witnessed how the Serb got back slowly into the match frustrating the Spaniard into unusual unforced errors that lead to the loss of the set for Nadal. The third was for the confident & finely tuned Djokovic who overrun a radically different , lost & lethargic Rafael Nadal taking the set , the match & title.
Novak Djorkovic is currently at his best Tennis level after winning the this years Australian Open & will be a serious candidate & threat in the upcoming European clay court circuit where there is no doubt he will again meet Nadal to fight out for more titles.
