The Spanish Football Federation presented today to a packed media audience the "new" uniform that the Spanish Football National Team will wear in the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil 2014. It´s an all red uniform which has been "sold" as a good luck omen for the current double European ( 2008/2012) & World Champions (2010) as Spain will attempt to make Football History if they manage to win back to back World Titles.
The uniform looks good, but the Marketing & Financial power behind it is much greater. It was more the day of the Sportwear multinational that sponsors Spain. More than a celebration of Spanish Football it was a powerful commercial exercise that will reap in millions & millions of dollars in merchandising, shirt selling & branding with the Spanish Football Federation obviously getting some "crumbs" off the global financial cake.
The most interesting picture was the one below with FC Barcelona star Andres Iniesta. The Sportwear "war" is in full flight & it will get rough in coming months. Have a look at the Footy shoes that Iniesta takes into the presentation gala, they are the "other brand", which has paid millions to the same players to counter-act the media effects of such events & uniforms.
An interesting observation which highlights - as you already know - that Football is a billion dollar industry which partially explains many things that occur which for the normal Football fan many seem odd: winners, losers, match decisions, hand-balls in crucial situations which are winning goals, World Cup allocations, Club titles & individual awards.
The Spanish Football National Team will officially premier "the new look" in International matches in the upcoming Friendly Internationals. One of which is against Equatorial Guinea governed by a 40 year Dictator with human rights violations. Another piece of hard evidence about the Football Business, it is speculated that the Spanish Football Federation will receive millions of euros for the "Football visit". We are sure the proud Sportswear brand of today also does not give a f*** about the human rights violations either.

FIFA POWER POLITICS | BLATTER vs CRISTIANO RONALDO | THE REAL STORY
The storm caused by FIFA President Blatter & his comments in reference to the question of who he preferred, Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, has been magnified & blown out beyond what simple outside Football observers would have expected. In fact no one knew in Spain that Blatter had spoke at the Oxford University forum until yesterday night. The comments took place on Friday & came to light 3 days later, coinciding "casually" with the release of the FIFA Golden Ball list of 23 candidates... more later
Here is the video & what the FIFA President had to say about Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo:
Yes one can interpret that Mr.Blatter could have been more alert & more politically correct. The surprise is not the negative & disrespectful interpretation from Spanish Sports media, Real Madrid & Cristiano Ronaldo which is understandable, but the trap set-up to which a traditionally fierce "political animal" that the FIFA President is known for fell foot & head into to the glee & the smiles of his enemies.
Mr. Blatter has held with an iron fist power under FIFA for a long time, & one does not do this without kicking heads, plenty of skulls. Those who have "suffered" the powers of Blatter have waited in the dark silently & are now smelling blood to go in for the kill. Cristiano Ronaldo has long felt that he has been badly respected by FIFA not only last Friday & now he has his moment. Real Madrid has felt a serious loss of power in the International Football Community & now has the opportunity to put back their 2 cents worth of "revenge", these & the long list of behind the scene Football, Political, Economic & who knows who personalities that have ambitions to take away the seat of Football power ( & a Billion dollar industry ) from Blatter.
The current FIFA President is "wounded", especially after the Qatar 2022 World Cup allocation which is full of serious accusations of fixing, multi-million "brides" & the acknowledge public mistake voiced by Blatter himself that to play Football under 50 degrees conditions was a mistake & almost suicidal. Will the Qatar & World Investors accept a change? Doubt it? Many feel that the "old man" should move on, people like Michel Platini ( the current UEFA President ) who has his eye on the FIFA seat, also like Spanish Federation President Angel Villar & all the other numerous power hungry enemies from Sporting wear multi-nationals, Economic Institutions & Companies, World Sports Media, Football Clubs, Coaches, Players, Representatives etc & etc of which Mr.Blatter has previously stuck his "Doc Marteens" Boots into their teeth for years.
The Blatter "comments" scenario or the occasion could not be more perfect, on the day of FIFA Golden Ball 23 candidate list release the Oxford University video hits Spanish media & the Cristiano Roanldo ignition sparks fire. The immediate reaction which is perfectly acceptable was a back-lash from Spanish media calling for blood, a letter from Real Madrid calling that Blatter retract his words, a letter from the Portuguese Football Federation which took it to national levels, Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti defending his player ( what else could he do ), a letter from Cristiano Roanldo representative Jorge Mendes calling for respect & Cristiano Ronaldo himself via his Facebook saying:
The reaction from Mr.Blatter was immediate saying that he was taken out of context & perhaps he was a bit too loose in behaviour & words. The FIFA President has asked for apologies & that he has the maximum respect for Ronaldo who is an exceptional player.
The FIFA President, the most "powerful man in World Football" has had to say sorry for words he pronounced to a "simple" question at an Oxford University Forum. Why? Because Blatter is no longer as powerful as we ( he ) once thought, the man has surprisingly ( & perhaps unknowingly ) given reasons & arms to his long list of enemies waiting to "knock off the King". We may be witnessing the last months / year of reign for Mr.Blatter. However I am sure the "one man" will not go out the exit door without firing his guns & last bullets. Cristiano Ronaldo may have kissed away his possible chances for this years Golden Ball Award, its a real possibility, not to mention Spain losing in the upcoming Brazil World Cup...Real Madrid losing the Champions League???
Nahhh , not possible, right?
But Cristiano Ronaldo ( & Spain ) in the arena of World Football & "dirty politics" are just instruments & not really important, a means to an end. Taking a Shakespearian line..."There is something smelly in Zurich".
Stay tuned for future developments.

REAL MADRID POLITICS | JOSE MOURINHO TO LEAVE PRESIDENT FLORENTINO PEREZ TO STAY
Everything indicates that the "Mourinho era" at Real Madrid has come to its end. Scorched earth some claim, a created disaster area like a recently passed Hurricane. The "Special One" came to put back the glory back onto Real Madrid & will leave with only a Spanish Cup, Liga & Spanish SuperCup title. Not bad at all for any other Club, but not with Real Madrid that measures success with Champions Leagues titles, none with Mourinho, only three straight semi-finals. This can be debated elsewhere.
The Spanish Cup Final was the "last straw" for many, with a loss & thus a dry season of no titles, a "rude" non-appearance to pick up the runners-up plate in front of the King of Spain, a divided dressing room with player rebellions & a "media war", all further darkening the image of the Club again. I say again because there has been a long string of infamous acts in the last three years with "Mou" ( eye poking Barça Vilanova for example) that have blemished the Club & its History; all in the name of victories, knocking off FC Barcelona & attempting the desired 10th Champions League title. All was fair in war...but why not now?
Everyone blames Mourinho, but what about the Club President that hired him? That same Real Madrid President Florentino Perez that said publicly ..."Mourinho is the Best Coach in the World, a Coach that represents that values of Real Madrid months back?
Today, local media speculate that the Club may actually announce the sacking of Mourinho this Monday or Tuesday. Others say that Mourinho will carry on until the last two Liga matches before announcing a mutual goodbye. Some players will pop Champagne corks along with their allied media partners which have worked so hard to "crush Mourinho", but again, what about the President of Real Madrid? Squeaky clean Florentino Perez , is about to face Club Presidential re-election without opponents. How is this possible under such "devastating" institutional Club turmoil?
Here is my humble theory.
Mourinho let known to President Florentino Perez early this year that he would leave. Both then made a "secret pact" of, you rub my back & I´ll rub your back. President Florentino Perez with Presidential elections in June had to avoid at all costs being seen as the "bad guy" & thus "suggested" to Mourinho the he become his protective shield, "the public bad guy" in case of a non title season. Accepting this role Real Madrid would facilitate the departure for Mourinho without much drama & if in the course Mourinho would have won a title, better for him as he could leave with some pride & honour. Although the last was not possible Mourinho continues with his "Oscar performing role" to shield the President of Real Madrid Florentino Perez.
How do you become the bad guy overnight? How do you make things so to ease the decision to leave or even sacking? You turn against a local idiol, the Spanish International Captain & Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas. This & add Cristiano Ronaldo in the equation who is the masthead of the Club & all the fans. Add the ingredients of some "non appearances" in front of a King , a red card to stay off the bench in coming games, & you have a tsunami that has levelled the Club & the public claiming his head. Its simple.
The Iker Casillas affair will one day see the true light. There are rumours that Casillas was a "supergrass" to the press wanting to "destabilize" his Coach which is unacceptable & unprofessional, if this is true it is correct to punish & I would go further to say leave the Club. Plus the goalkeeper was failing in form so he needed to be motivated. Cristiano Ronaldo gave two "shits" at the start of the season for Real Madrid with his "I am sad" comments as he - if correct as speculated - wished to leave the Club & go to Paris St Germain & thus had his head elsewhere which lowered his performance. Sergio Ramos was simply playing bad Football & was part of the blame in important defeats in Liga, the man needed a "serious call & notice". The local media which had been "rubbed up the wrong way" since the arrival of Mourinho now had the fuel needed to build an anti-Mourinho campaign & thus finally served their revenge. But is Mourinho really the blame for everything ? If Mourinho was so bad & damaging why did not the President of the Club take action earlier?
Mourinho will go & another Coach will arrive. If things goes well & important players are´nt messed with, everything OK, but if things go bad the players will again dictate the future & affairs of the Club. Yes, the players. Club Presidents as politicians work to stay in power & make sure that the "shit" flys off to hit others. Club Presidents are always "squeaky clean" & very popular.

FC BARCELONA | KICKING THE POLITICAL FOOTBALL
The second uniform for FC BARCELONA for season 2013 - 2014 has been "leaked" as the below image highlights. For the first time in the Clubs 113 years founded by Swiss , English & local Spaniards, the Club takes literally its "recent history objetive" of representating the "Region of Catalunya". The colours & print are the same as the "Senyera", the name given to the flag of Cataluña.
There is Marketing strategy behind this, of course, but the other reason is Political, as its an attempt to further bond desired ties between the "Region-State" & the Club. Said in another way, FC Barcelona wishes to remain & continue being synonymous with Cataluña.
Perfectly acceptable & the Club is perfectly free do choose as they wish in a democratic society, but surprisingly "village" & "small minded" ( my opinion ) for a Football Club with their dimension, their proclaimed universality ( they sponsor UNICEF ) & global reach, they have more fans outside the Catalonian region & outside Spain. In my humble opinion it is bad business mixing Politics with Sports, it has always been the case however much used & abused throughout history for propaganda purposes. This unfortunately has that smell.
Some may ask what about the other Barcelona city Club RCD ESPANYOL? Are they less Catalonian? Are the Espanyol fans less? Will this cause other Spanish Football Clubs to change their uniforms for their Region?
I take it that Barcelona has announced their intention a year early to sample the public opinion. It will give conversation for sure. Meanwhile fans prepare for another 90€-100€ to get the new uniform.
Perhaps FC Barcelona should consider giving a shirt for free for the entire Regional population, right? Doubt it, the nationalist sentiment does not go out that deep, business will always be first, "Politics" will be the instrument to keep the faithful in line with their credit cards handy & the business churning out the euros.

MONDAY 29th of NOV DATE SET FOR EL CLASICO 2010 | FC BARCELONA - REAL MADRID CF
The political pressures - especially from Catalonia - has finally contributed to set & move the date that "El Clasico" , FC BARCELONA vs REAL MADRID, match will be played. The big Spanish Football event has been set for MONDAY 29th of NOVEMBER at 21.00 HRS.
The reason is that Catalonia holds its Autonomous Parliament Elections on Sunday the 28th Nov. The local political balance is delicate & the results look beforehand very tight. Catalonian politicians do not wish a "politically charged" Football game so close to elections as they fear the "emotions" will sway voters & the final result. Tweet

FC BARCELONA - REAL MADRID CF "EL CLASICO" 2010 - 2011 | WHICH DATE ? DON´T KNOW - YET!
I am getting plenty of emails from SFS readers asking me for the date of the FC Barcelona – Real Madrid “Clasico”: the first of the two big games in the Spanish Football – League season. In theory, it’s the weekend of the 27th of November & this 2010 – 2011 season the first game is at “Camp Nou”, the home ground of FC Barcelona.
However there is a huge debate happening in Spain at this moment on whether to change the date to Monday 29th of November. Why? The Catalan region hold its Autonomous Parliamentary Elections on Sunday the 28th November, thus Sunday is cancelled at this moment on political & security grounds. This leaves Saturday 27th of November as an option, BUT due to election laws, there cannot be any “political” promotions or insinuations 24 hours before the election date; this is the so-called “Day of Reflection”. As we all know, the FC Barcelona – Real Madrid match is “politically” charged & a victory either way, or a spontaneous person running on the field with a political message etc ( apart from signs ) could get massive publicity & may affect the next day election results which this time around will be tight with an existing delicate local/national political balance which could break the current “equilibrium”. To add to this complex situation, ex FC Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, is on the election ticket for the “Catalonia Independent Party” & Football may influence here as well. Thus, Catalonia politicians have suggested that the FC Barcelona – Real Madrid game be moved to Monday 29th of November. Yet, many people here are not happy as many fans travel from outside of Barcelona (from all around Spain) to be at this game & will miss it due to work obligations; added to which the TVs are not happy as they wish to transmit on the weekend. BIG DILEMMA!
But there is more folks, days before Champions League will be celebrated with Real Madrid playing Tuesday 22nd Nov in Amsterdam against Ajax & thus they prefer SATURDAY, & Barça plays Wednesday 23rd of Nov in Greece & to recover more MONDAY would be great from them. In fact, FC Barcelona would like Monday for another added reason such as “marketing – brand value” in the Asian countries, while Real Madrid wishes a Saturday because it is tradition & wish to find a more “tired” Barça from Champions.
The debate goes on, but we will need to know before the 18th of November, which is the deadline date.
So to answer everyone: What is the date of this season (2010 – 2011) FC Barcelona – Real Madrid “Clasico”? One of the following options:
1. 27th of November – Saturday
2. 29th of November – Monday
or 3. 28th of November – Sunday – 21.00 hours (less likely but a last resort option)
As you can see, in Spain, Football is a social phenomenon. Stay tuned! Tweet

THIERRY HENRY - STAY OUT OF SPANISH POLITICS, PLEASE!!!!
Intellectuales say intelligent things, but Football players say...
"Cataluña no es España y eso hay que sentirlo" - translated -
"Catalonia is not Spain, you have to feel it". Ok that is fine, but
two years living in "Catalonia" & one thinks (feels) what people
in 500 years has´nt yet got it clear.
Ok, I now go on & say this about the south of France... "this belongs
to the Basque Country & not the French state, you have to feel it" ...Ok
for you Thierry ?

Thierry score goals & play your Football well. Stay out of f*cking
politics & don´t come across as an idiot.

REAL MADRID: RAMON CALDERON RESIGNS. SFS LOOKS AT THE POSSIBLE BEHIND THE "SHADOWS" REASONS
It’s dramatic but necessary, the forced resignation of REAL MADRID
President Ramon Calderon, who was overwhelmed by the huge amount
of evidence accusing him of acting unlawfully, corruptly & dishonestly,
has shaken the prestigious Club & the Football World. The important local
Sports daily “Marca” with the cooperation of national radio announcer
Jose Antonio Abellan of the program “El Tirachinas” (COPE), have
untapped the scandalous incidents during the Clubs General Assembly
last December of 2008. Mr.Calderon allegedly organized with “allied &
foreign” persons, who were non-Real Madrid members without voting
rights, to participate under the guise of appearing as true Club members
(“comisarios”) to vote in the General Assembly, & with their numbers
give the balance of the voting in favour of Calderon & his 2009 Budget.
Obviously, its scandalous!

When radio announcer J.A.Abellan (JAA) unearths this, he is joined by
daily “Marca” who begin a series of scoops that splashes the incident
on the front page & across all media. The scandal & the evidence mounted
so much that it forces Mr. Calderon to call a press conference on
Wednesday explaining that he knew nothing & swore on his honour that
he did not know any of the “infiltrated” non-members at the December
2008 General Assembly. The daily “Marca” in its crusade, published the
next day photos of the“infiltrated”non-members together with family
members (eg the son) of Calderon & with Mr.Calderon himself. The killer
blow came today on the front page of “Marca” with the testimony of one
of the “infiltrated” persons – so called Nanin – claiming he followed
orders from Mr.Calderon.Obviously, Ramon Calderon had to resign even
though he wished to “ride the storm”, but this final blow to the “head”
made it impossible.
(picture of false members voting by "Marca")

Lets forget about the numerous other accusations made about Mr.Calderon,
which have been many - you can read them on the below posts - lets
attempt to see what may really be behind this devastating media objective
to get rid of Mr.Calderon as President of Real Madrid Club de Fútbol.
SFS repeats, Mr.Calderon had to resign, he took the risk of breaking the
rules & now he must pay, but what lies behind the shadows? Let’s look
at the parts involved & then try to fit the pieces. From here onwards it’s
all SFS speculation, I have no proof, & SFS is just a humble observer
that hasn’t access to the “shadows”. However asks the question: from
Then there is ex – President Florentino Perez. It’s been rumoured that the
ex – Real Madrid President wishes to announce his comeback & present
himself for re-election. His idea is to present himself as the “new messiah”
& thus go down in history as Real Madrid´s saviour & greatest ever President.
The next elections were due for 2010, however with the resignation of
Mr.Calderon, the caretaking Board has announced that they will now be put
forward a year for the Summer of 2009. Bingo! One objective has been
achieved. It is also rumoured that Florentino Perez is working in the
shadows to secure CRISTIANO RONALDO & - its speculated – or KAKA
to present them as signings if he is elected. SFS has no proof, it is only
speculating, but what if this is a change in the Global Spanish Football &
Media Balance of Power? Imagine a Florentino Perez – Marca – JAA
alliance? Too much of a conspiracy theory, perhaps?
Perhaps. It maybe that Florentino Perez will not present himself for the
Real Madrid elections. But what is true is that “Marca” & JAA are now
powerful players – STAKEHOLDERS – of Real Madrid, of the other Clubs
& in Spanish Football. They have fired a powerful warning shot to all media
competitors & let it be known that if anything is to be done or got to be
done they have to have a piece of the action.
Mr.Calderon has been naughty & has been caught out. But he has been
foolish & his naive actions have been food for the sharks. Everyone will
claim the brilliance in “Marca” journalism & JAA style, but its all much
more than what the simple eye may give to what it sees. It’s a jungle out
there, much more so in Spanish Football!
DISCLAIMER:Note this is an opinion by SFS. SFS has no proof & speculates based on its
observation, backed by reading, listening & watching of media. It exercises it´s free right of expression
& opinion.

of evidence accusing him of acting unlawfully, corruptly & dishonestly,
has shaken the prestigious Club & the Football World.

However asks the question: from
where did "Marca" & JAA get their information, pictures & documents?
The logical answer is from people within the Club or at least from who
The logical answer is from people within the Club or at least from who
had access to them from within.
Let’s look at Real Madrid. Given the title by FIFA as the “Most Important
Club in the 20th Century”, with most European Cups, the biggest &
most titled Club in Spain, with the most followers that number millions
in Spain, with World Wide interests both socially & economically, a Club
that moves & influences the masses & an authentic money machine.
Obviously the Club, & precisely its President has power, power to pull the
strings in many areas of Spanish, European & World social life. The Real
Madrid President is met as a dignitary in other countries with Prime
Ministers & Presidents of Nations going to met him personally on arrival.
Such power gives you friends, political favours, business opportunities &
enemies, jealous enemies that remain friends as long as they can share
the piece of the cake. Like politics the Club & its President has to look
after its STAKEHOLDERS & balance their individual needs & wants
against the Clubs own priorities & objectives. This is why Clubs invest
heavily in powerful Public Relations Departments & attempt to manage
their image, players, representatives, members, politicians, businessmen
…& the mass media.

The Sports Daily “Marca” is Spain’s biggest read paper, more than the
conventional papers about current affairs. It has a readership of between
1.5-2million daily readers which highlights the importance & the power
of Football in Spain. In the last years, a few competitors have entered
the Sports papers market with “AS” (paper of rival, the SER) gaining year
after year more ground. There existed the view that REAL MADRID had
“penetrated”“AS” & used it as its main voice to influence public opinion,
thus giving the paper special favours, access to players & scoops (transfer
news etc). The leadership of “Marca” was under threat & needed
something to show everyone that it still called the shots in Spanish
Sporting journalism & that it still has the power to bring down Clubs
& even Club Presidents if needed. Obviously, just by observation ( why
precisely now question), something must have happened in the "Real Madrid
– Marca relationship" that upset the latter to want to redefine the power lines
& at the same time send a powerful message to its competitors, to all other
Spanish Clubs & their Presidents that it was still there & still Nº1. They have
proved it today with the forced resignation of Mr.Calderon, as the next
& future Real Madrid Presidents - & all Spanish Clubs - must take “Marca”
into account in their day to day operations.
(radio announcer J.A.Abellan)

Radio announcer JAA (COPE), was a commercial radio jock that moved
into the late night Sporting radio arena with a comic style show – “El
Tirachinas”. He wasn’t being taken too seriously from the bigger fish like
radio Onda Cero (800.000 listeners) & the powerful SER (1.200.000), plus
he wasn’t getting the audience. Then something happened, perhaps the
Real Madrid Club was not attending the needs & petitions of the JAA radio
show with more interviews or scoops, & the lack of attention & smaller
piece of the pie made JAA change strategy by putting the comedy in second
place. The “criticism” began to increase towards Real Madrid with more
investigating reports against Mr.Calderon & his activities. It seemed JAA
was sending a message that the “ugly duckling” of late night Football
radio was here & would now get its pay back for being “humiliated”.
Meanwhile “Marca” also moved into the radio area & “allied” itself with
JAA to attack, not only Real Madrid, but its perceived media “puppets”
& Real Madrid influenced radios, especially the SER. Its strategy worked,
they both increased their audience. Now, with the Mr.Calderon resignation,
the “ugly duckling” will be feared in Spanish Football, seen as a serious
Sports journalist & thus increasing his programme´s prestige, its audience,
his power & influence.

FEDERIC KANOUTE: BEST KEEP POLITICS OUT OF SPORT - A THOUGHT
FEDERIC KANOUTE yesterday voiced his personal opinion after
scoring the 2º goal in Sevilla FC 2-1 victory over Deportivo in the
1ºleg of the SPANISH CUP ( image below).

We are all terrified & concerned as human beings of what is occurring
in Palestina, & we pray daily for a stop to the military activities so that the
Palestinian people can stop suffering. It´s a complex affair, it is not black
& white at all, Kanoute has a democratic right -plus as a Muslim- to
express his feelings.
However, just for reflexion, SFS feels it is best not to mix politics with
sport. The latter is already emotionally charged as to have another
emotional element get mixed in. Sports is meant to united, while politics
by its nature disunites as there is always a loser.
Althought Kanoute´s action is human, a sign of solidarity & a right, it´s
best be kept off the field. Its the ethical thing to do: neutrality in Sports Tweet
