CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULT | FC BARCELONA 4 AC MILAN 0

The turn around happened & in a big way as FC Barcelona defeated convincingly AC Milan to continue onto the quarter - final phase of the Champions League. The final score ( result ) was 4 - 0 to the Spanish Football Club that gave them the tie with a 4 - 2 aggregate in their favour.

The Italians made the same mistake most Clubs make when they come to "Camp Nou", defend & speculate with counter-attacks. Giving the ball on purpose & the initiative to Barcelona is a sure manner to get hammered & this is what precisely happened to AC Milan.

However, there was one moment that could have changed it all. A defensive error by Barça player Mascherano allowed Milan forward Niang a clear run at the goal with only keeper Valdes to which he shot to hit the post. Milan had possibly the tie wrapped up but the miss by Niang & consequent recovering of the ball by Barça converted itself through the continuing play into a Barcelona goal. The missed chance was severely punished with a Barça goal, a symptom of the way the night was going & would finish for Milan.

Champions League FC Barcelona - AC Milan 2013

FC Barcelona knew before the game that they had to win 3 - 0 to get themselves through & from the first second of play poured it on to overwhelm a Milan side intent on defending their "San Siro" 2 - 0 result. The Italian strategy failed as Lionel Messi was to signal his intentions & protagonism with a brillation crafted & executed first goal in the 5th min. It lifted the Barça spirit & convinced them that they could pull it off tonight.

Then the moment the Italians will be dreading all night & the coming days & weeks when forward Niang had the match on a platter but missed a clear opportunity that hit the post. Never again was Milan to receive such an opportunity as the door into the quarter-finals slammed shut on their face.

Champions League FC Barcelona - AC Milan 2013

The immediate reaction from that lost opportunity by Milan was a savage blow to the stomach with a second goal for Barça from Lionel Messi in the 39th min. Crushing for the Italians whom saw how it all slipped away seconds before.

Champions League FC Barcelona - AC Milan 2013

FC Barcelona at this stage was just one goal away from the objective & in came in the 55th min when David Villa scored the sort after third goal. Mayhem as the stadium burst in jubilation & joy with Barça at that stage qualified.

AC Milan had no other option but to put in forwards ( Robinho & Bojan ) to find a goal, a goal that would put them into the quarter-finals with the away goal rule. The Italians left their defensive obsessions through the need & possibly played their best Football all night. Then in a last gasp attack from the Italians, a fumble gave Barça the ball which counter-attacked via Messi & Alexis Sanchez who passed into a run Jordi Alba who scored the fourth goal in the 92th min.  Game over & goodnight for AC Milan which was truly beaten & may I say humiliated in the sense of being totally out played on all fronts.

Last observations. A mention must go out to the Barça midfield which controlled everything from the first kick off. Xavi Hernandez set the pace, direction & rhythm all night, while Andres Iniesta is simply magic & poetry in motion, a delight for the Football eyes & deadly in his results for the opponents. Lastly, Messi did what a player of his calibre needs to do under such an occasion, bite the bullet of the situation & resolve which he did as a four time FIFA Golden ball player.

Great night of Spanish Football, excellent result for Barcelona & commiserations to AC Milan.

Tomorrow more Champions League with Spanish Football team Malaga FC also needing to turn around an adverse 1º tie result. We wish them the best.

AC MILAN - FC BARCELONA
REAL MADRID - MANCHESTER UNITED
VALENCIA CF - PARIS ST GERMAIN
FC OPORTO - MALAGA FC

Spanish Football Clubs

Difficult in all cases as this is definitely the business end of the European competition.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEDNESDAY GROUP RESULTS | MALAGA FC - REAL MADRID

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Group duties for the SPANISH FOOTBALL CLUBS, Malaga FC & Real Madrid. Ying & Yang outcomes tonight for Spanish Football with mixed & surprising ends. Here are the final results & all the goalscorers.

Champions League 2012
Saviola

MALAGA FC hosted AC MILAN in a Group C clash with the Spaniards winning 1 - 0. Evened game which was decided only by a class piece of action by JOAQUIN in the 64th min. Earlier that same player had missed a penalty in the 44th min, to which he basically redeemed himself of that lost opportunity: from villain to hero.

In summary,  the first half went to Milan with more chances, while the second half Malaga FC was more effective with the only match goal as their reward & thus the victory prize. Historical night at Malaga where the European magic keeps on happening.

Champions League 2012
Goal by Dortmund

German Club BORUSSIA DORTMUND take top spot of the difficult Group D table after defeating REAL MADRID 2 - 1. Deserved victory by the German which put in a textbook game of tactical discipline & effective upfront definition.

Real Madrid was thin on ideas & out of tune with a bad start in the 19th min with Khedira off injured with a muscle pull. His substitute Modric was dim as was Ozil & Xabi Alonso. The Real Madrid engine just did not burn as effectively tonight as other occasions & their game suffered.

The German got ahead first with a great counter-attack after a silly Real Madrid defensive mistake found  LEWANDOWSKI free for a precision pass that was hammered home in the 35th min. Then Real Madrid enjoyed a "golden minute" when Ozil found with a long pass CRISTIANO RONALDO who equalized in the in te 37th min. But that was all for Real...

The Germans continued grinding the Spaniards straight into & all the second half until they got their second & winning goal after a "poor" Iker Casillas punched out ball which was reaped up by SCMELZER who booted into the goal net.

Great night for Dortmund, but Real Coach Mourinho will not be happy.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP RESULTS | VALENCIA CF - FC BARCELONA

Will apologize from the onset for this post which will be brief & not as extensive as usual. Tough & long day at the office, past midnight & just got in.

However, enough about my woes, your here for Spanish Football news & Clubs, & two of them had Champions League Group duties tonight with good results. Here are the final results & the goalscorers.

Champions League
Soldado

VALENCIA CF won away to BATE BORISOV 0 - 3 in their Group G match. The Spanish team keeps the momentum of recent good play & results & their forward ROBERTO SOLDADO starred with a HAT - TRICK. Three great goal scored in the 45th, 55th & 68th min.

FC Barcelona
Iniesta

FC BARCELONA won their Group F game against CELTIC GLASGOW 2 - 1 & in the 94th min via the JORDI ALBA winner. The Scots played a great match, brave & withstanding. They gave Barça a few shakes including the opener by SAMARAS in the 18th min. ANDRES INIESTA put things back in place with his 45th min equalizer.

FC Barcelona played better & controlled the ball more & Celtic goalie Foster was a "wall" keeping out numerous clear opportunities from Barcelona. Even the post got into the party against Barça wishes , but they managed the victory which is what finally counts.

Deserved win by Barça,  but by a hairs breath.

FC BARCELONA 2 CHELSEA FC 2 | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2 º LEG SEMI RESULT

FC BARCELONA has been knocked out of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE tournament after English Club CHELSEA FC managed a 2 - 2 final result ( 2-3agg ) in the 2º leg semi final match. It was a victory against the grain & with all the Chelsea FC players singing ( metaphorical) the Pink Floyd track ..."all in all we´re just another brick in the wall. Defensive wall that was higher when Chelsea FC Captain Terry stupidly & unknown to human science left his team down with 10 men after an idiot knee into the back of Alexis Sanchez in the 37th min behind play. However, with 10 men Chelsea surprisingly did better & accepted their limits & concentrated on what they do best under the circumstance : HOLD OUT & wait.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FC BARCELONA 2012 CHELSEA FC
Messi misses penalty

For Barcelona it was a nightmare night. Pique was taken off & to the hospital for precautionary tests after clashing with Valdes when both stopped a dangerous attack from Drogba. Barça hit the post ( Messi) , had disallowed goals & then perhaps the moment in the 49th min when LIONEL MESSI hit the bar with his penalty.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FC BARCELONA 2012 CHELSEA FC
Busquets goal

FC Bareelona by the 45 th min had two goals & was looking good & in charge. SERGIO BUSQUETS scored in the 35th min & later ANDRES INIESTA in the 43rd min. But with 10 men on the field, & relaxed Barça thinking in the final, a counter-attack found RAMIRES who brilliantly chipped over Barça goalir Valdes to silence the "Camp Nou"

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FC BARCELONA 2012 CHELSEA FC
Iniesta goal

The 2º half saw wave after wave of Barça attacks as Chelsea put in an enormous psychical effort to stop all the charges. DROGBA in particular deserves a mention for his "superhuman" feat attacking & defending. It was defend, defend & defend from Chelsea as Barça tried, tried & tried.

Then in the last minute a FERNANDO TORRES ( came on as sub ) break-away with all of Barça in their forward area, saw the Spaniard run around goalie Valdes to put in the sealer & as they say, the final nail into the Barça coffin.

Congratulations to Chelsea. Now we all await tomorrow to see which team Chelsea will meet in the final. If tonight is an omen anything can happen tomorrow, even the unexpected.

FC BARCELONA 3 MANCHESTER UNITED 1 | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2011 FINAL RESULT

FC BARCELONA takes SPANISH FOOTBALL to the top position of European & World Football after winning with a 3 - 1 result English Club MANCHESTER UNITED in the 2011 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Final played tonight at the "Wembley Stadium" (London).

Spanish Football
image is courtesy of "Sport"

It is FC Barcelona fourth Champions League Title & they repite the first that the Club won back in 1992 in the same stadium. Since then the Club has worked hard in building a team of "home-breed" youngsters that have matured tonight under Coach Guardiola to become the "Best Football Team in The World" with many observers adding, that perhaps of all time.

sports
Rooney scores for Manchester United

The match started with Manchester United on fire & rocking Barça about which looked very nervous & unstable. It was clear that the aim for the English team was to score first & they had a couple of chances that Barça keeper Valdes foiled in some great stopping actions. From the 15th min onwards Barcelona began touching the ball & dominanting proceedings with Xavi, Iniesta & Messi looking very dangerous. Then a magical pass from Xavi found PEDRO who scored the first goal in the 27th min.

However, Manchester United showed their class & personality & managed to turn a Barça mistake into a great equalizing goal by WAYNE ROONEY in the 34th min. The first half finished balanced & both teams went off in a thinking mode that anticipated a grand second half.

Football Spain
Lionel Messi scores for FC Barcelona

The second half saw Barcelona start in top form & virtually took full control of the game from the first minute. The Spanish Football team touched the ball around making Manchester United run after them until gaps appeared. Then in the 54th min LIONEL MESSI pull a "riffle" shot from outside the box that "cut the grass" to score pass a surprised goalkeeper Van Der Sar. The Messi goal was a milestone for the Argentine, it meant his 12th Champions League goal in the season equalizing Van Nistelrooys record of 12  of  season 2008-2009, plus his Top Goal scorer for the third time in a row in the Champions League competition. Naturally UEFA awarded Messi the "Man of The Match" for tonights performance, a performance that needs others to be mentioned like Valdes, Iniesta, Xavi & Mascherano.

Spanish Soccer
David Villa scores for FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona then lifted a gear & looked to "kill off" the match as Manchester was showing signs of picking themselves up, but DAVID VILLA scored a curler in the 69th min that sealed the match for Barça & put things & the final out of "psychological" reach for Manchester United.

Football
Manchester United lament the Barça goal

To end, just a few points to highlights like Barça Captain Carles Puyol - under an injury cloud & substitute tonight - was given a run towards the end, & secondly the whole Barça team made honorary Captain defender ERIC ABIDAL so he could receive the Champions League Trophy after surviving,  & coming back to play the final from liver cancer surgery.

Congratulations to FC Barcelona for a wonderful match & their 4th Champions League title,  & to Manchester United who were worthy opponents but faced a Team that many describe as possibly the "Best in Football History".

TOTTENHAM 0 REAL MADRID 1 | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2º LEG QUARTER FINAL RESULT

REAL MADRID visited TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS in their 2º leg CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Quarter Final match to win 0 - 1 ( 0 - 5 Agg) & secure their place in the Semi - Finals. Real Madrid will now meet FC BARCELONA the 27th of April in the "Santiago Bernabeu" Stadium in their 1º leg clash.

Spanish soccer
Cristiano Ronaldo scores against Tottenham

Tottenham did not win tonight but they showed a better performance that should allow them to leave the competition with their heads high. The main player to note from the English side - from both matches - is the impressive BALE who I feel will be on the agenda of many Top European Football Clubs next season.

The English side had some chances & would be not too happy with two situations that "may" have been penalty occasions, but CRISTIANO RONALDO scored the winner in the 50th min with a "power drive" that bent the hands of Tottenham goalkeeper Gomes to allow the ball into the net.

The bad news for Madrid was the yellow card to defender Carvalho who will miss the 1º st leg semi final clash against Barça.

The other "Spanish Football News" was Schalke 04 defeating current European Champions Inter Milan 2 - 1 with goal from ex Real Madrid Captian RAUL & the other for Schalke 04 thanks to his assist. .

REAL MADRID CF | WHO WILL SCORE THE 700TH GOAL IN EUROPEAN CUP - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ?

Here is some trivia that has come to my attention in reference to REAL MADRID CF & European Football (Champions League) participation. The Spanish Club is just 1º goal away from reaching 700 goals scored in the European Cup (Champions League) competition. They are the highest scoring team in its history with currently 699 goals, with the second far behind being Bayern Munich with 453 goals, followed by Manchester United with 416 goals & FC Barcelona with 403 goals.

Di Stefano scores Real Madrid 100th European Cup goal against Barcelona

The 1st ever goal was in 1955 scored by Miguel Muñoz

SPANISH FOOTBALL SPORTS FLASHBACKS | FC BARCELONA FIRST EUROPEAN CUP 18 YEARS AGO

Source Blog: Sp Ftball Sprts /
Today, Thursday, 18 years ago is the anniversary of the first ever European Cup Championship Title for FC BARCELONA. The final was played at the “old” Wembley Stadium in London against Italian team Sampdoria with a final score 1-0. It was the “Dream Team” of Cruyff that clinched the European Cup in extra-time when Dutch defender ROLAND KOEMAN scored a free-kick in the 111th min that was the winner.

Since then Barça has won another 2 more European titles.

BASKETBALL | FC BARCELONA WINS OLYMPIAKOS TO BECOME EUROPEAN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS 2010

Great night for Spanish Sports, Spanish Basketball & for the city of Barcelona after FC BARCELONA (the Basketball section) defeated Greek side OLYMPIAKOS 86-68 in the Final of the European Final Four tournament in Paris to proclaim themselves the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS.

FC Barcelona palyer JUAN CARLOS NAVARRO (above) was chosen the MVP of the tournament making him the first Spaniard to win this honour in the final four competition.

The Spanish side was by far the best team with the Greeks getting close in the 2º & 3ºrd quarters . However, good defending on Greek play-maker Papaloukas reduced the efectiveness of Olympiakos which also suffered as their zone play did not work at all well tonight. The latter part of the match the Spaniards opened a big psychological gap with triple shots flying in from all angles.

Details:

Regal FC Barcelona (28+19+17+22) 86: Ricky Rubio (9), Navarro (21), Mickeal (14), Ndong (7), Lorbek (8) -initial five-, Fran Vázquez (6), Sada (7), Basile (6), Morris (8), Grimau (-), Lakovic (-) & Trias (-).

Olympiakos (19+17+14+18) 68: Penn (-), Teodosic (10), Childress (15), Kleiza (13), Schortsanitis (6) -initial five-, Bouroussis (9), Papaloukas (12), Halperim (-), Mavrokefalides (1), Vujcic (2), Vassilopoulos (-) & Beverley (-).

REAL MADRID CF - THE SPIRIT OF 1960

Real Madrid 1960 Team: Standing left - right: Domínguez, Marquitos, Santamaría, Pachín, Vidal y Zárraga; Below left - right: Canario, Del Sol, Di Stéfano, Puskas y Gento with the 5th straight European Cup

Tomorrow REAL MADRID CF will attempt to turn around a very difficult CHAMPIONS LEAGUE return tie against French team OLYMPIQUE LYON. The French won the home leg 1-0 & Madrid has to make sure that the visitors do not score & they win by at least 2 goals. This feat is not beyond the Spanish side that if anything has plenty of fire power upfront as the team is currently the highest goal scoring side in Europe.

To help serve them as an example, this year is the 50th anniversary of another great goal scoring REAL MADRID team which is legendary as the date 18th of May coincides with the European Cup match the many consider the “Greatest of all European Cup matches”. This date 50 years ago Real Madrid defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in the Final to secured its 5th straight European Cup title.

Although this current Real Madrid team will have to go a long way to even get relatively close to the 1960 side they can take a leaf out of their book to find inspiration, the motivation & the winning spirit to get the job done tomorrow against Lyon. Let’s think that the spirit of the magnificent & possibly unrepeatable 1960 Real Madrid team will hover over the “Santiago Bernabeu Stadium” for the good of Spanish Football in its quest to reaffirm the local competition as the “Best League in the World”. Good luck!

SFS FLASHBACKS: EUROPEAN CUP S/FINAL 1989 - AC MILAN 5 - REAL MADRID 0

REAL MADRID & AC MILAN has been put together in Group C of this
years UEFA Champions League along with Zurich & Olympique de
Marsella. The both mentioned & European Giant Clubs are scheduled to
meet the 21.10.2009 at Madrid with the return game at Milan the
03.11.2009. SFS would like to take the occasion & recall the
readers of a Historical European Cup clash back in the 19th of April
of 1989
when Milan defeated Real Madrid 5-0 in the semi-final.

AC Milan was the "Best Football Team" probably in the History of
European Football, only rivalled today by the current FC
BARCELONA
team. AC Milan had in there squad Baressi, Maldini,
Ancelotti, Rijkaard, Van Basten, Gullit…etc. which went on to win
the European title two years in a row under Manager/Coach Sacchi.

Here is the SFS Flashback of the match with goals from Ancelotti,
Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten &
Donadoni:

This time around it is not expected that AC Milan repeat the feat,
although anything is possible…

SFS FLASHBACKS: REAL MADRID 7 - E.FRANKFURT 3

It was 1960 & the European Cup Final was played at Glasgow
(Hampden Park).REAL MADRID dominated World Football with 4
European Cup titles in a row & were playing German side EINTRACHT

End result: Real Madrid 7 – E.Frankfurt 3. Real Madrid legendary
forwards Puskas & Di Stefano destroy the Germans

SFS FLASHBACKS: REAL MADRID 3 - MANCHESTER UNITED 3 - 1968 EUROPEAN CUP 2º LEG SEMI-FINAL

Situation: It was the 1967/68 season & REAL MADRID played
MANCHESTER UNITED in a historical 2º leg
EUROPEAN CUP
semi-final
clash at the "Santiago Bernabeu Stadium" (Madrid). The
end result was a grand 3-3 draw, but Manchester United qualified
for the European Cup final because in the 1ºst leg at Old Trafford
they won 1-0 thanks to a goal from George Best.

Great Football Flashback!

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL: FC BARCELONA 2 – MANCHESTER UNITED 0: BARÇA MAKES HISTORY (SEE VIDEOS OF GOALS)

This is the team photo, a HISTORICAL snapshot of 11 FC
BARCELONA
players that have made Spanish Football History in
being the first & only team to date to win the “Big 3” – La Liga,
Spanish Cup & European Cup – in one season. Tonight FC BARCELONA
won MANCHESTER UNITED 2-0 in the Final of the 2009 Champions
League
to finish its season with the highest accolade in European
Football.

Manchester United started strong, surprising everyone with its
attacking Football that nearly paid off. The first 9 minutes were
all Manchester with its star CRISTIANO RONALDO having many chances
but not being able to materialize them into valuable goals. Then the
10th min, with a run away INIESTA that opened the English defence
to give SAMUEL ETO´O the ball who “split in half” Vidic to poke in
Barça´s 1ºst goal that gave his team confidence & braked totally the
Manchester push to bring in doubts into their game. This was the
key!

See VIDEO of Samuel Eto´o 10th min goal:

From here Manchester United went into a defensive mode that
allowed FC Barcelona to develop its natural touch ball game which
frankly drove crazy the English team. Cristiano Ronaldo showed
class & kept on trying but his star went dimmer with time as a
“one man show” is difficult to maintain when you have in front
of you a team. So much so that he was totally frustrated towards
the end
reflecting the attitude of his team.

The 2ºhalf was a Barça riot, it was a scandal & Barça could have
put in 4 goals which they missed in the first 10-15 mins. These
misses gave Manchester ideas that perhaps they could equalize
& made substitutions to go all out for the attack – Tevez, Berbatov
& Scholes. However that was risky as this left holes in the
Manchester defence that Barça exploited via a brilliant XAVI
HERNANDEZ
pass that found the head of MESSI who scored his
teams 2º goal & his 9th for the Champions!.That was the nail in the
Manchester coffin, especially after a minute later Barça goalie Valdes
saved a Ronaldo shot. Here onwards the English team allowed itself
to be dominated & watched as FC Barcelona showed why this
season they have shown the Best Style of Football & are now the
Best Team in The World.

See VIDEO of the MESSI 70th min goal:

Special mentions here must go out to THIERRY HENRY who finally
gets his European Cup, to SYLVINHO who was awarded for his
outstanding professional career, to Captain PUYOL who leads by
example, MESSI who know takes over as the Best Player in The World,
ETO´O breaking records & scoring, PIQUE maturing into an outstanding
World Class player, TOURE, XAVI, INIESTA - amazing, VALDES was
great, BUSQUETS - revelation,KEITA…& the rest. Finally Coach
JOSEP - PEP - GUARDIOLA an amazing achievement that will go down
in history & his career has just began!

Well done, its Barça´s 3ºrd European Cup. Spanish Football, thanks
to Barça, is back up on Top.

SFS FLASHBACKS: 1994 EUROPEAN CUP FINAL - FC BARCELONA 0 AC MILAN 4

With the upcoming 2009 EUROPEAN CUP Final (now UEFA
Champions League Final) due Wednesday the 27th of May at
Rome between FC BARCELONA & MANCHESTER UNITED, SFS
has recovered a FLASHBACK historical moment in Spanish
(World) Football.

It was 1994 in Athens GREECE, & FC BARCELONA met AC MILAN
in the final of the European Cup. Barça arrived as the “favourites”
under Coach Johan Cruyff & his “Dream Team”, while AC Milan
were without sweeper Baressi , Costacurta, Raducioui, Papin &
Brian Laudrup due to injuries & other legal obstacles that Italian
Coach Fabio Capello had to figure out.

The line ups were:

FC BARCELONA: Zubizarreta; Ferrer; Guardiola; Koeman;
Miguel Angel Nadal;Bakero; Sergi; Stoichkov; Amor; Rosario
& Berguiristain
AC MILAN: Rossi; Tassotti; Panucci; Albertini; Galli; Maldini;
Donadoni;Desailly; Boban; Savicevic & Massaro

The game turned out to be an Italian "whitewash" as the following
VIDEO highlights:

FC Barcelona 0AC Milan 4: A historical game & victory in the
annuals of the European Cup.
Goals: Massaro 22m & 45m; Savicevic 47 & Desailly 59.

You may have noticed a young Guardiola playing for Barcelona who
now is their Coach. He may have this game on his mind as the 27th
of May final gets closer.

SFS FLASHBACKS: FC BARCELONA FIRST EUROPEAN CUP 1992

FC BARCELONA had a dream & a fierce crusade before 1992, to
conquer their first ever EUROPEAN CUP title. It was an obsession
as it was the trophy that would give them the International
creditablity needed for
the giant Club & finally get them out of
the shadow of their arch rival Real Madrid.

In 1992 at the "old" Wembley Stadium in London FC Barcelona
played Italian Club Sampdoria in the European Cup Final. The game
went into extra-time & it looked that things would go into penalties
to decide the
winner. Until this happened with just minutes left:

Dutchman RONALD KOEMAN would go down in Barça history forever
& become a legend.
