SPANISH SPORTS mantains alive one of the best teams in the sport of HANDBALL,  in Spain & in all Europe,  thanks to an agreement that saves CIUDAD REAL Handball Team. The current Spanish Cup champions, the 5 time ASOBAL Winners, World Club Champions twice, three times European Champions ...etc & etc, has been saved by economic bankruptcy & from disappearing totally from the sporting map thanks to ATLETICO DE MADRID, yes the Football Club.

From next season CIUDAD REAL moves itself to the city of Madrid & will call itself BALONMANO ATLETICO DE MADRID. Atletico regains this way a Handball Division which it eliminated decades ago when the Gil family bought the Football Club. So,  as of now, ATLETICO DE MADRID has a Football & Handball Club. The latter kicks of the season against FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup on the 4th of September.

Great to see Ciudad Real still in action & good to see Handball back in Madrid & with Atletico.

HANDBALL | CIUDAD REAL DEFEAT VALLADOLID IN SPANISH CUP FINAL

CIUDAD REAL were simply too strong & defeated VALLADOLID 31 - 22 in the final of the SPANISH CUP of HANDBALL. Valladolid had surprised FC Barcelona defeating them 25 - 26 in the semi-final, but they "crashed" into the Ciudad Real wall as the latter took their 3rd Spanish Cup title. The winners add this prestigious Handball title to the two they have already won this season, the "Asobal Cup" y the "SuperCup", consolidating them as Spain´s Nº1 Team & one of the Best, if not the Best, Teams in European Handball.

SPANISH HANDBALL | CIUDAD REAL 34 FC BARCELONA 31 | ASOBAL CUP 2010 FINAL

I agree SPANISH HANDBALL doesn´t get the exposure it should, I am the first to criticise, but Football is so big & dominates so much the local scene that this happens. Plus the blog is a personal "hobby" with limited time in my hands & unfortunately for Handball fans I have to sway to what the majority wish to read. But Spanish has the strongest League & most of the Best Players in Europe assuring the quality & maximum level.

Having said this, CIUDAD REAL continue dominating the Sport at Club level after winning their sixth ASOBAL CUP against FC BARCELONA 31 - 34. A brilliant second half by Ciudad Real allowed the victory & equals FC Barcelona in titles.

HANDBALL: BARCELONA WINS SPANISH SUPERCUP

The winning streak at FC BARCELONA has extended itself at all
Sporting levels with its Handball Team defeating the current Spanish
& European Champions CIUDAD REAL 33 -26 in the SPANISH
SUPERCUP

There was a smell of certain “revenge” in the air during yesterdays
match as player SIARHEI RUTENKA scored seven goals & was named
MVP of the game. The irony is that Rutenka was a Ciudad Real player
last season until Barcelona bought him this season to make him their
star transfer signing. The move is already paying its dividends!

HANDBALL: SPANISH TEAM CIUDAD REAL WINS EUROPEAN TITLE

Spanish Handball team CIUDAD REAL turned around a 5 goal
difference from the 1ºst leg to defeat KIEL in the 2º leg 33-27 &
take the Handball EUROPEAN TITLE. It was an increidible
comeback that gives Ciudad Real its second consecutive title in
a row.

HANDBALL: CIUDAD REAL WINS ASOBAL TITLE

The joy of the CIUDAD REAL Handball players is manifest as they
celebrate another important title.

CIUDAD REAL won its 3ºrd consecutive Spanish Handball ASOBAL
title after defeating BARCELONA 37 – 26. The team Coached by
legendary player Dujsebaev virtually ran over Barça early with
exceptional performances from Abalo & Rutenka, & goalkeeper
Sterbik stopping it all.

With this title Ciudad Real notches up its second for the season
– the other being the Euro SuperCup - & now put their eyes on
the upcoming European Cup Final against Kiev.
