ANDRES INIESTA | UEFA BEST EUROPEAN PLAYER 2011 - 2012

UEFA has announced tonight that FC BARCELONA & Spanish International ANDRES INIESTA is the winner of the "UEFA Best European Player" season 2011 - 2012. The Spaniard won ahead of team-mate Lionel Messi & Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, to be awarded possibly Iniesta´s biggest individual prize to date.

The players Euro 2012 performance was determinate as he won the MVP of that tournament & marvelled. In fact, its time that Iniesta be recognized for his talent, sportsmanship & all round "Football Nice Guy". Congratulations Champ!

This puts the player up there for the end of year "Golden Ball Award" were a handful of players , including the already mentioned, will be vying.

UEFA BEST EUROPEAN PLAYER 2011-2012 THREE CANDIDATES

UEFA has announced the three final candidates for the "UEFA Best European Player of season 2011-2012" They are:

• Cristiano Ronaldo ( Real Madrid CF )
• Lionel Messi ( FC Barcelona )
• Andres Iniesta ( FC Barcelona )

the rest in line are Pirlo (Juventus),Xavi Hernandez (FC Barcelona),Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Drogba (ex-Chelsea FC), P.Cech (Chelsea FC), Falcao (At. Madrid) & Ozil (Real Madrid) ...all which finish off the Top 10 list.

More than 73.000 people voted on Spanish Sports online channel "marca.com" for what they believed to be the "Best 11 Players" of the Spanish Football League season 2011-2012.

As you can see the list is dominanted by Real Madrid & FC Barcelona players, with the exceptions being Javi Martinez (At.Bilbao) & Falcao (At.Madrid). A list that does not depart to much from reality as all the voted players have indeed put in a grand season.

SPANISH FOOTBALL ROUND 38 FINAL RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL & LA LIGA came to an end for season 2011-2012 with mixed emotions of joy for the winners & for the survivors, while sadness crossed over those Clubs which were relegated into the Spanish 2º Division for next season.

The main ending points of the season are that REAL MADRID won the Spanish League with runners-up FC Barcelona. The two other Clubs in Champions League positions are Valencia CF & Malaga FC. Clubs for the Europa League are Atletico de Madrid & Levante. The sad news is for Racing de Santander, Real Sporting de Gijon & Villareal that get relegated to the 2º Division.

Individual awards to Lional Messi ( FC Barcelona ) with "The Pichichi" - Spanish Football Top goalscorer - with 50 goals & "The Zamora" Award to Victor Valdes (FC Barcelona) as the least scored goalkeeper in Spanish Football.

Cristiano Ronaldo

REAL MADRID won REAL MALLORCA 4 - 1 to take the Spanish League title with a "record breaking" 100 table points & 121 season goals. CRISTIANO RONALDO who scored today finishes the season with 46 goals & runner-up in the "Pichichi" Award ( Spanish Football Top Goalscorer).

The other Real Madrid goalscorers were BENZEMA in the 22nd min & OZIL with two goals in the 49th & 57th min. From Mallorca CHORRI CASTRO scored in the 51st min

Levante - At Bilbao

LEVANTE defeated ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO 3 - 0 & in doing so secured a place in Europa League. The goals for Levante came via GHEZZAL with two ( 45th & 67th min) & FARINOS in the 88th min (penalty). Bilbao lost steam in the last few Rounds & finished 10th place on the LIga table.

Malaga - Real Sporting de Gijon

MALAGA won REAL SPORTING DE GIJON 1 - 0 to secure a historical Champions League table position & Gijon got itself relegated to the Spanish 2º Division. The winning goal came via RONDON in the 49th min.

Rayo-Granada

The very last minute goal by RAYO VALLECANO forward TAMUDO in the 90+ min against GRANADA kept Rayo in the Spanish 1º st Division & sent Villareal into the 2º Division. Dramatic finish with joy locally that had terrible & sad consequences at Villareal

Getafe-Real Zaragoza

REAL ZARAGOZA won away from home 0 - 2 GETAFE & managed the "miracle" of the season. Weeks back they were "dead" & almost certain to be relegated. But they managed some true grit victories & today they managed to survive & stay another year in La Liga. The winning goals came from APOÑO in the 56th min & POSTIGA in the 91st min.

Villareal - At Madrid

ATLETICO DE MADRID won away 0 - 1 VILLAREAL via a FALCAO goal in the 88th min & sent Villareal to the 2º Division next season. Atletico de Madrid finishes 5th placed & in Europa League position.

Racing - Osasuna

RACING DE SANTANDER, relegated weeks back, lost 2 - 4 to Osasuna which just missed out on Europa League places. The two goals for Racing came from STUANI in the 1st min & JAIRO in the 80th min, while for Osasuna IBRAHIMA (4th min), CEJUDO (67th min), RAUL GARCIA ( 71st min) & ROVERSIO all scored

EUROPA LEAGUE 2011-2012 | ATLETICO DE MADRID CHAMPIONS

The winner tonight was SPANISH FOOTBALL. The only sad event is that unfortunately there can only be one winner, in this case,  ATLETICO DE MADRID which proclaimed themselves EUROPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2011 - 2012 after defeating fellow Spanish Club ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO 3 - 0. Atletico managed to win the Europa League Cup again with the last time being back in 2010.

Falcao

Atletico de Madrid started strong & pressured up front while Bilbao was still calming down from the nerves of the Final. In one of those "nervous" moments FALCAO did a marvellous individual play piece when he "found-created" a shot that found the back of net in the 6th min. It was an extraordinary goal that shook Bilbao & sent a message of intentions.

Miranda - Llorente

Bilbao reacted & bettered their play controlling more the ball & creating chances. But Atletico tonight was concentrated & was tactically almost perfect with maximum discipline in defence that cancelled out the majority of the Bilbao opportunities. In fact, Atletico had a clear plan, defensive discipline, pressure upfront & counter-attack Football. In one of those occasions FALCAO again did "his party trick" & individually created a magical goal in the 34th min that took Atletico half way home.  

Diego

The second half saw Bilbao make 3 changes & push the team forward to look for the goal that would help them attempt a comeback. But defenders Godin, Miranda, Juan Fran & Felipe Luis stopped all the Bilbao efforts & Atletico goalkeeper Courtois was secure & made a goal save that pushed Atletico closer to the title.

Then in the 85th min DIEGO sentenced with an individual play of stop-go-start Football & a crossed-shot to find the net for the 3rd goal. It was clear here that Atletico would be European Champions.

Falcao

The man of the match was "Mr Europa League" , FALCAO with his 2 goals that confirmed him as the Europa League Top goalscorer - again. The Colombian simply put in a perfect night of World-class Football , as did his team.

MESSI 50 GOALS ON COURSE FOR EL PICHICHI

With just one Round left to go of the current SPANISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE season there is a clear run away candidate to win the "El Pichichi" Award - Top Spanish League goal scorer - & in doing so the European Golden Boot Award.

With is 4 goals yesterday against RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona player LIONEL MESSI takes his personal LIGA tally to 50 GOALS, this is an historic record smashing figure for Spanish Football. But there is more, his all competitions season tally is currently on 72 goals (50 Liga, 14 Champions League, 2 Spanish Cup Copa del Rey, 3 Spanish Super cup , 1 European Super Cup & 2 World Clubs World Champions Cup). Simply amazing!

Messi 2012

In second place is Cristiano Ronaldo also with an amazing figure of 45 goals. With just one Round left, it seems almost out of reach catching Messi as the Real Madrid player would need to score 5 goals to equalize or 6 goals to surpass, & that without Messi scoring more in his last seasons game.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LIGA - WEDNESDAY MID-WEEK RESULTS | REAL MADRID SPANISH CHAMPIONS

SPANISH FOOTBALL tonight with the rest of the 7 games scheduled in the mid-week fixture played. The news is that REAL MADRID CF won its match & mathematically proclaimed themselves CHAMPIONS for season 2011-2012 of the SPANISH LEAGUE. Its their 32 LIGA title & they won it with 2 Rounds still left of the season.

Puyol

FC BARCELONA did their best to attempt to delay any celebrations by Real Madrid defeating MALAGA 4 - 1. LIONEL MESSI scored a HAT-TRICK ( 35th & 59th both penalties, & in the 64th min ) along with PUYOL which opened the scoring in the 13th min. For Malaga RONDON managed their only goal in the 26th min.

Lionel Messi (46) currently overtakes Cristiano Ronaldo (44) by two goals in the Spanish League Top scorer race, a competition that will go to the wire with 2 more Rounds left to play.

Sevilla - Real Betis

SEVILLA FC lost the big city derby 1 - 2 against REAL BETIS. The highlights were the two Betis goals, both free kicks, marvellously executed by BEÑAT in the 43rd min & 92nd min. Sevilla scored first via NEGREDO in the 5th min. A heated match, as expected, with yellow cards & Sevilla player Medal set off in the 91st min.

Real Mallorca

REAL MALLORCA won 1 - 0 RAYO VALLECANO with the CASTRO 61st min goal, which took away the needed point from Rayo to secure their place in the Spanish Football elite & away from relegation. Rayo still face danger.

Real Zaragoza - Levante

The loss by Rayo Vallecano benefited REAL ZARAGOZA which won 1 - 0 LEVANTE & that keeps their slim hopes alive of avoiding the relegation. The magic & important goal came via EDU ORIOL in the 10th min. The "faith-hope" flame keeps burning at Zaragoza.

At.Madrid

As many have become use to - myself as an Atletico fan - ATLETICO DE MADRID allowed themselves to be drawn by REAL SOCIEDAD in the very last minute to finish in a 1 - 1 final result. This sour draw for Atletico means that they can kiss good-bye an hope of getting into Champions League positions as it was a priority objective.

GABI opened the scoring for Atletico in the 54th min & Real Sociedad drew via VELA in the 91st min.

Ozil scores

REAL MADRID needed to win to proclaim themselves Spanish League Champions & they did just that winning 0 - 3 away against ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO. A top game with posts from both sides & a missed penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo, plus controversy in both penalty areas.

The goals came from HIGUAIN in the 16th min, OZIL from a CR7 pass in the 20th min & CRISTIANO ROANLDO in the 50th min. The match, as said, was for big boys & Javi Martinez of Bilbao was sent off in the 72nd min & at the end Cristiano Ronaldo had a run-in with the local fans & some Bilbao players. Nothing serious but a tension release moment.

Jonas for Valencia CF

VALENCIA CF wishes to secure their 3º rd place on the ladder & did so winning 4 - 0 OSASUNA. Hard fought out game that was settled late in the match with two goals from ADURIZ ( 78th & 88th min) & two goals for JONAS ( 82nd & 89th min).

SPANISH FOOTBALL - MID WEEK LIGA TUESDAY FINAL RESULTS

Three matches scheduled today as part of the mid-week fixture allocated to LA LIGA in order to catch up with missed rounds due to the players strike at the start of the Spanish Football season last year. Officially this round is numbered 20 which may cause some confusion to the punters. Here are all the final scores & goalscorers.

Getafe-Racing

RACING DE SANTANDER was already sentenced to the Spanish 2º Division when they visited GETAFE. The 1 - 1 draw did some damage however to the Madrid Club as it whipped out any chance of aspiring for Euro table positions. The goal scorers were MIKU for Getafe in the 58th min via a penalty & DIOP in the 64th min for Racing. Earlier in the match Diop has hit the bar in a penalty occasion.

Ighalo

GRANADA thanks to the two goals from IGHALO ( 29th & 34th min) took a big step forward in avoiding relegation after defeating RCD ESPANYOL 2 - 1. The other goal came from DIDIC for Espanyol in the 54th min. 

Sporting - Villareal

This was a final, & match to avoid the dangers of relegation, with REAL SPORTING DE GIJON worst off than VILLAREAL. The final result of 2 - 3 to Villareal basically "kills off" Sporting & condemns the Club ( barring a miracle ) to join Racing de Santander in the Spanish 2 º Division.

Villareal got ahead first via MARIO in the 19th min to which Sporting equalized in the 38th min via LORA. However, Villareal was more determined in their objective & got ahead again in the 42nd min via MARCOS SENNA via a penalty & H.PEREZ scored the third in the 65th min. Sporting attempted a last minute cry for hope when GALVEZ scored in the 85th min with the team at full steam ahead & Villareal against the ropes, but it was all too late.

Sad day at Gijon, their 1º Division future is no longer in their hands.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LIGA - ROUND 36 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL action with 5 games of Round 36 celebrated this Saturday. Here is a brief round-up of games, with the final results & all the scorers.

Kone for Levante

LEVANTE won GRANADA 3 - 0 & keeps the flame alive of finishing in Champions League table positions. The battle for the coveted position places is up for grabs along with Valencia CF, Malaga FC, At.Bilbao & At.Madrid. Today the goals came from KONE in the 46th min, X TORRES in the 73rd min & VALDO 83rd min which all put more wood on the dream & flame. 

Real Sporting de Gijon

REAL SPORTING DE GIJON continue attempting to turn the apparent "impossible" into a possible to try to save themselves from relegation. Today the Club took a positive step forward at the hands of RCD ESPANYOL which they defeated away 0 - 3.

Goals from COLUNGA in the 47th min, TREJO in the 70th min & BILIC gave Gijon a great win. The objective of avoiding the 2º Division is still difficult but not "impossible".

Real Sociedad

Another 3 - 0 final result game this time between REAL SOCIEDAD & RACING DE SANTANDER with the former scoring their goals via GRIEZMANN with two ( 47th & 69th min ) & AGIRRETXE in the 83rd min. The loss by Racing de Santander sends them in the 2 º Division next season thus a sad day at Santander.

Real Mallorca

Madrid Club GETAFE lost 1 - 3 to REAL MALLORCA. The only goal from the home side came in the last moments of the games, concretely in the 92nd min, via ALEXIS. The visitors goals came from CASADESUS in the 3 rd min, ALFARO in the 68th min & HEMED in the 78th min. 

The Mallorca win keeps alive their aspirations to finish in Euro League positions.

Villareal

VILLAREAL drew 1 - 1 with OSASUNA & put themselves dangerously close to the relegation zone, while Osasuna still has a slim chance of getting a Euro place although difficult. The opener came via BRUNO for Villareal in the 44th min & RAUL GARCIA equalized for Osasuna with a splendid goal in the 72nd min.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | REAL MADRID KNOCKED OUT BY BAYERN IN PENALTY-SHOOT OUT

Intense match that went into extra-time, down to the wire & was settled in a penalty shoot-out. REAL MADRID CF was knocked out of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE tournament 2 - 2 ( penalty shoot out 3-5 ) by BAYERN MUNICH that moves on to play the Final in their home stadium against Chelsea FC & which they are now hot favourites

Bitter-end for Spanish Football in Champions with FC Barcelona going out yesterday & now Real Madrid, the latter in the most unwanted fashion, in a penalty shoot out that saw three players - Roanldo, Kaka & Ramos - miss what usually are certain targets. 


Perhaps the super physical effort of the Liga "clasico" last Saturday passed on its collateral effects on both Spanish Football sides, & in tonight's case, the tiredness effected the mind & the players concentration. Lastly, Bayern goalie Neuer is a top class stopper & it showed in the penalty shoot out & IKER CASSILLAS stopped two penalties that proved once again that we are talking "TOP" level in World Football.

Either way, worthy winners Bayern Munich which played a great match, very tactical & very worked looking always to create plenty of opportunities that had Real in many occasions on the back foot.

The game started with a nervous Bayern which Real Madrid exploited to the maximum with goals via a penalty in the 6th min by CRISTIANO RONALDO & another in the 14th min again by RONALDO.

Bayern then showed their character & recovered to win a penalty ( a Pepe foul on Gomez ) in the 27th min that ROBBEN converted to equal the aggregate scoreline. From here onwards it was an exchange of blows between both contenders that took the Football & the psychical efforts on both sides to the limit. There were chances, misses, shouted penalties, fouls, mistakes, tiredness & nerves, every ingredient to give the spectator a grand game of Football.

Towards the end, both sides felt the pressure as a simple mistake would send you directly home & out, & thus caution ruled & thus the match ended in the penalty-shoot out "lottery" stage. 


From here, well it will be all news all day tomorrow. There can only be one winner & tonight it was Bayern Munich. Wish them luck for here!

MONDAY NIGHT SPANISH FOOTBALL ROUND 35 GAME RESULT

Round 35 of the SPANISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE concluded tonight with the Monday Night Game between OSASUNA & MALAGA FC that ended in a 1 - 1 draw. Lost opportunity for both Clubs to jump table positions as Osasuna aims for Europa League positions & Malaga to get off Valencia CF the prized 3º rd place.

Osasuna - Malaga FC

Osasuna opened the scoring in the 53rd min via NINO but Malaga FC midfielder SANTIAGO CARZOLA did one of his long range "party pieces" & equalized in the 67th min. Shared points!

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LEAGUE ROUND 35 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL continued today /tonight with Round 35 & with 5 games scheduled of LA LIGA. While the Spanish League title winner may have been settled, or at least made clearer after yesterdays Real Madrid victory over FC Barcelona, the action continues for the Euro table places & especially around the relegation zone. Lets look at all the final results & all the goal scorers. 

Granada scores

Important victory for GRANADA 1 - 0 over GETAFE as the former gets closer to its objective of getting enough points to secure their presence next season with the elite of Spanish Football. The vital goal & winner came from FRANCO JARA in the 17th min, a goal that not only lifts hopes at Granada, it also put Getafe further away from Euro table positions.

Real Sociedad Vela scores

Both VILLAREAL & REAL SOCIEDAD are dangerous hoovering close to the relegation zone & the 1 - 1 draw today favoured more the home team as Villareal is just a place out of the danger zone. Villareal got ahead first via SENNA in the 42nd min & it seemed that they were on course for the 3 points, but VELA equalized in the 85th min to blow out that candle. Villareal still suffering.

Racing - At.Bilbao

Devastating loss by RACING DE SANTANDER 0 - 1 at the hands of ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO which leaves Racing last & kissing the 2º Division for next season. Bilbao player TOQUERO stuck the "relegation" knife in with his early 12th min goal. 

At Madrid - Espanyol

ATLETICO DE MADRID has a Liga objective, to get into Euro positions. However to do this they needed to push aside another rival aspiring for the some goal RCD ESPANYOL & the Madrid Club did just this winning 3 -1.

Atletico put in a great game carrying on with the inertia of their mid-week Europa League victory over Valencia opening the scoreline in the 9th min via a GODIN header. Espanyol reacted well & equalized via DIDAC VILA in the 19th min, plus almost going ahead after hitting the woodwork.

Atletico remained calm & controlled proceeding until ARDA TURAN exploded into action with 2 mins of Football brilliance. First an overhead goal in the 60th min that lifted the stadium roof & then in the 62 nd min with a magnificent individual goal that sealed the match. Atletico kept at it & Salvio hit the post.

Atletico is just one spot out off the Euro positions with 4 games left of the season.

Sergio Canales back after serious knee injury

VALENCIA CF won REAL BETIS 4 - 0 putting out the visitors resistence in the 2º half. The good news also for Valencia was the return of young Football talent Sergio Canales after months out injured with a  knee problem.

JONES opened the scoring for Valencia in the 6th min & more goals came later via FEGHOULI in the 63 rd min, SOLDADO in the 86th min & PIATTI in the 88th min. Betis player Molina got a red card in the 89th min highlighting a bad night for Betis

SPANISH FOOTBALL tonight with four matches scheduled in Round 35 of LA LIGA & the "clasico" taking all the headlines & all the World Football attention as the Spanish League was basically up for grabs. Here are all the final results & scorers.

Khedira scores for Real Madrid

FC BARCELONA suffered their first home ground defeat,  & barring late surprises, kissed this seasons Spanish League title goodbye as REAL MADRID won 1 - 2 in an exciting game of Football. Less heated as previous encounters but no less intense, Real Madrid seemed to take a leaf out of Chelsea FC book & choked Barça in the midfield with an extraordinary effort of disciplined & defensive Football that was effective with counter-attacks.

Real Madrid may have had the ball only 30%-40% to Barças overwhelming 60% - 70%, but Barcelona was neutralized upfront with Messi out of action thanks to the close marking of Ramos, Pepe & Xabi Alonso.

FC Barcelona will face some debate from the fans as Guardiola kept Alexis, Cesc Fabregas & Pique on the bench to which many have interpreted as a "punishment" for extra-field activities & lack of "discipline" (whatever that may mean, or just resting for Chelsea). Said this, lets not take away the merit of young Tello & Thaigo both playing well but in the end perhaps the former being "overtaken" by the occasion.

The opener came from a corner in the 17th min when KHEDIRA scored after Pepe headed & there was a tussle between goalie Valdes & Puyol. Khedira managed to get his foot in first & got the important opener.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores the second goal

From here it was wave after wave of attacking Football from Barça that crashed into the Real Madrid wall. The locals did have their chances but limited & not as frequent as we have been accustomed to from Barcelona. Coentrao, criticised heavy after his mid-week Champions League performance, did a great job holding out Alves, Ramos was solid in the air, while Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria & Ronaldo all run their hearts out in defending more than attacking, it was a real team effort.

However, the Barça goal was on the way as the attacks were numerous & Guardiola put on ALEXIS who scored the equalizer in the 70th min in a "scrabble" similiar to Real Madrid first goal. But 2 mins later a midfield steal which found Ozil craeted the winner as the German found CRISTIANO RONALDO who broke through the Barça defence & beat Valdes with what would later turnout to be the winner. With this goal Ronaldo had sealed his place tonight back on the World Football stage as he did overshadow Messi in this particular game.

From here Guardiola put on Pedro y Cesc but Real Madrid held on to stop all the Barça efforts, even creating a few more chances that nearly gave fruit.

Big win for Real Madrid which has the Spanish League title closer, but not in the bag, for as the saying goes, "it ain´t over until the fat lady sings". 

Mallorca - Real Zaragoza

REAL MALLORCA woke up REAL ZARAGOZA from their "dream" of avoiding relegation after defeating them 1 - 0 with the goal from CASADESUS in the 34th min. A serious setback for Zaragoza as the Club is running out of games to secure their future in the Spanish Football elite.

Real Sporting de Gijon

Different story for REAL SPORTING DE GIJON which knew that if they lost today they would be doomed to the Spanish 2º Division. With grit the home team defeated Madrid Club RAYO VALLECANO 2 - 1 & keeps their hopes alive although they are slim. Gijon must win their next matches to stay alive in the 1º Division & this will not be an easy feat at all. 


The opener came via Sporting player SANGOY in the 18th min & things got competitive until Rayo found the equalizer in the 51st min via LABAKA. Then a foul which lead to a red card to Labaka in the 75th min allowed BILIC to score a free-kick goal that was to be the winner for Gijon. Rayo got another red card when Casado was sent off in the 86th min. 

Kone for Levante

How can one describe this match? SEVILLA FC had 11 corners to the visitors 0 & failed a penalty in the 85th min by Negredo. Thus the final score of 1 - 1 against LEVANTE, thus another classic case for Sevilla of "when things go wrong everything goes wrong" & Europe next year gets further away, something not the case ( for now ) for Levante.

Sevilla got ahead in the 20th min via NEGREDO but Levante managed to equalize quickly via KONE in the 27th min. From here onwards Sevilla tried & tried, but ...

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LIGA ROUND 34 MONDAY NIGHT RESULT | GETAFE 5 SEVILLA FC 1

While most of the local Spanish Sports daily s filled their spaces with pre-Champions League semis content about Real Madrid & Barça, tonight the last game of Round 34 of the Spanish Football League was played. An excellent match & great spectacle as GETAFE made a magnificent comeback to defeated SEVILLA FC 5 -1. 

Negredo for Sevilla FC

Sevilla started well & got ahead when NEGREDO scored a great overhead goal in the 19th min. But Getafe was not shunned & began putting together some great Football with the dividends coming when MIGUEL TORRES equalized in the 35th min. This spurred Getafe on further & LACEN put the locals ahead with his 49th min goal followed by another via MIKU in the 63rd min for the teams third. Then Sevilla "collapsed" in their play & Getafe took full control with two more goals via PEDRO RIOS in the 69th min & MIKU again in the 71st min.

Great victory for Getafe & a big set-back for Sevilla FC which has its hopes on attempting to finish in the competitive Euro table positions.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LEAGUE ROUND 34 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL & Round 34 of LA LIGA continued today with seven matches scheduled. Here are all the final results & all the scorers.

Espanyol - Valencia CF

RCD ESPANYOL defeated convincingly VALENCIA CF 4 - 0 & puts the latter third position on the Liga table in a delicate situation. Valencia still hold the prized third place thanks to the fact the Malaga could only manage a draw in their game today.

The home team showed their intentions in the 25th min when CRISTIAN GOMEZ opened the scoring followed by a "cracker" from VERDU in the 29th min, later VAZQUEZ scored in the 57th min & lastly K.UCHE in the 79th min.

Real Zaragoza 

REAL ZARAGOZA kept their miracle option open as they defeated GRANADA 1 - 0 thanks to the goal from DUJMOVIC in the 5th min. Zaragoza have still a way to go if they are to avoid relegation & are 5 points behind the team just out of the danger zone Granada. Important win today indeed for Zaragoza.

Castro for Betis

REAL BETIS climb as they caused another defeat on OSASUNA winning 1 - 0 with the goal of RUBEN CASTRO in the 34th min. Osasuna went down to 10 men in the 61st min when midfielder Garcia was sent off with a red card.

Malaga - Real Sociedad

MALAGA FC let go a golden chance to get the third spot on the Spanish League ladder when they drew 1 - 1 with REAL SOCIEDAD.  The home team started well with a 19th min goal from ISCO, but Socieded answered with the equalizer in the 48th min via XABI PRIETO. Real Sociedad went down to 10 men when Mikel Martinez was sent off & Malaga could not take advantage of their numerical superiority. 

Acosta for Racing de Santander 

VILLAREAL let go three points after RACING DE SANTANDER drew in the very last moment via a goal from ACOSTA in the 94th min. Earlier H.PEREZ had put Villareal ahead in the 47th min & things looked favourable for the home team.

The draw for Racing lifts their spirits but the Club seems destined sadly for 2º Division Football next season.

Fernando Llorente scores for Bilbao

The header goal from FERNANDO LLORENTE in the 12th min was enough to give the three points to ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO over REAL MALLORCA. The visitors had a golden chance to equalize in the 35th min but Bigas hit the woodwork , so did Toquero for Bilbao in the 92nd min. Final result 1-0

Bilbao won today but their collective team "mind" was on this Thursdays Europa League semi 1º leg clash with Sporting Lisbon.

Falcao for At Madrid

City of Madrid "derby" between RAYO VALLECANO & ATLETICO DE MADRID with the visitors taking the match & the three points with a 0 - 1 scorline. It was´nt a pretty match at all with Rayo having more of the ball than Atletico. Both teams missed some "sitter" chances & things began balancing out as the match went on.

However a rapid counter-attack from Atletico ( via Juan Fran ) caught Rayo off guard & FALCAO fired home the opener & what would be later the winner in the 64th min. Therefore a slim win for Atletico which takes the game without brilliance but with effectiveness.
