Spanish Football invested 27M€ with 20 players inscriptions ( 17 on loan) , which betters the 8,25M€ of the past season. Some big names are Adebayor on loan to Real Madrid, Affelay signing with FC Barcelona…etc. The Spanish League Club that invested the most was MALAGA with 5 players.

FERNANDO TORRES 58M€ TRANSFER TO CHELSEA FC A RECORD FOR A SPANISH PLAYER - RECORD BETWEEN ENGLISH CLUBS

According to the LIVERPOOL FC Web news the English Club has agreed to the CHELSEA FC transfer price & offer of 58M€ for Spanish International Football player FERNANDO TORRES. This makes Fernando Torres the highest ever transfered player in monetary terms in the history for a Spanish born Football player & between two English Clubs. Overall, Fernando Torres is now the 6th highest ever transfer in Football History:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd - Real Madrid) = 94M€
2. Zinedine Zidane (Juventus - Real Madrid ) = 73M€
3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic ( Inter M - FC Barcelona ) = 66M€
4. Kaka (AC Milan - Real Madrid) = 65M€
5. Luis Figo (FC Barcelona - Real Madrid) = 60M€
6. Fernando Torres (Liverpool - Chelsea ) = 58 M€

Fernando Torres is currently undergoing the obligatory medical exams which he should pass & receive the OK before signing with "the Blues" in coming hours.

Liverpool has used 40M€ from their soon to recieve 58M€ from Chelsea FC to sign Newcastle forward Andrew Carroll & thus join their other new signing Luis Suarez to form their "new look" future attacking line-up.

The Liverpool fans have not taken too well the news of the Fernando Torres transfer & have gone out to the streets to burn the Number Nine shirt of the player. An act that is more emotional than anything else because Torres was a real idiol for many Liverpool FC fans & for the young lads. The Spaniard scored 72 goals during his 150 matches with "the Reds" & one would expect that when the emotions subside that some "common sense" will prevail. The replacements for Torres - Suarez & Carroll - are top class.

Some may ask if Torres is worth 58M€? Was Cristiano Ronaldo worth 94M€? Think about the external marketing - merchandising - TV rights...etc. Fernando Torres is a "semi-God" for fans in China, Japan, Indonesia, Sth Korea, Thailand, USA, Australia.... big markets to open up for Chelsea FC. I think they will get back their investment in a few years.

To finish off, no doubt more news & details of the Fernando Torres operation will be coming out in the next hours from all sorts of web sources that will keep you updated if you desire to learn more about the move.

VALENCIA CF SIGNS JONAS FROM GREMIO

Another new incorporation to Spanish Football this time via VALENCIA CF with their "Winter Market" signing of Brazilian "Golden Boot" JONAS GONCALVEZ from GREMIO

The 26 year old forward comes at a relative economical price of 1.2M€ & signs until 2015. The new player complements the Valencia CF forward line along with Aduriz & Soldado.

Welcome & good luck in the Spanish League!

SEVILLA FC SIGNS MEDEL - RAKITIC

Spanish Football has two new incorporations & specifically with SEVILLA FC who signed two new players just before the close of the "2011 Winter Transfer Market". They are defensive Chilean midfielder & now ex-Boca Junior player GARY MEDEL, & young 22 year old Croatian forward RAKITIC from German Club Schelke 04

Medel  - Rakitic

The Chilean Medal comes for 3M€ approx & signs for 4 seasons, while Rakitic costs 1.5M€ & signs until 2014.  Both good signings for Sevilla FC which will no doubt give them plenty of added value.

Welcome to the Spanish League!

REAL MADRID - ADEBAYOR | IT IS OFFICIAL

REAL MADRID has announced that it is official. MANCHESTER CITY forward EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR has been "signed" until the end of this season. The player comes without a transfer fee & will be on loan until the end of the season, Real Madrid has an option of a buy (14M€) if the Club decides to take it up. Real Madrid does pay however the high salary that Adebayor has in his contract of around 2M€

Real Madrid Adebayor 2011
Adebayor with Manchester City : Reuters

Real Madrid Coach José Mourinho has won his particular "battle" with Club Directives & the player will be presented in two days at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The first choice Ruud Van Nistelrooy was discarded totally last night when his Club Hamburg said catagorically NO to transfering the player to Madrid.

REAL MADRID RECONSIDER EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR OF MANCHESTER CITY

News being published on the mayor Spanish Sports online channels tonight indicate that REAL MADRID will now attempt to get over to Madrid MANCHESTER CITY 26 year old forward EMMANUEL ABEBAYOR. The negative posture from German Club Hamburg in accepting the 2M€ ( + a friendly match) offer for Ruud Van Nistelrooy has forced the Spanish Club to go back on its tracks & consider again the Togo player.

Real Madrid Adelbayor
Emmanuel Adebayor

Manchester City are apparently receptive to offers & will consider a loan as they have recently signed forward DZEKO & thus Adebayor hasn´t a place in their team. Real Madrid have been hesitant to incorporate Abebayor due to his "conflictive" character, but with Van Nistelrooy almost discarded & Manchester City willing to negotiate a loan for a player who can play Champions League,  the window of opportunity again has opened for the Manchester City player. Real Madrid Coach Mourinho insists in a forward urgently & has even made threats to the Club with leaving if he does not get support for his demands.

Lastly, the same news sources comment that if the Abebayor option fails REAL MADRID will then go for Bayern Munich 32 year old forward KLOSE. In this last case, the German would not be able to play in Champions League thus the Abebayor alternative gains in strength & attractiveness.

Stay tuned for further developments in coming days. I would not discard any option at this stage.

LATEST: According to news tonight from Spanish TV channel "Intereconomia", ATLETICO DE MADRID forward DIEGO FORLAN has offered himself personally to REAL MADRID as an alternative.

As said, stay tuned because we have plenty of miles left to travel with this story.

REAL MADRID OFFERS 2M€ TO HAMBURG FOR VAN NISTELROOY ?

According to news coming in & being picked up by the mayor Spanish Sports online media, REAL MADRID has offered GERMAN Club HAMBURG a speculated 2M€ for forward RUUD VAN NISTELROOY. The player went free to Hamburg with the best wishes of the Spanish Club & now the latter finds itself being “forced” to fork out money to get him back; a bit like a "Marx Brothers movie". Leaving my opinion aside, there is rumour in the air that the agreement is close & that Hamburg will have to only decide if they take the money & run: I believe that was their original strategy from the start.

Stay tuned, there may be an official announcement in the coming hours or days…

LATEST (22 Jan 2011): According to "Marca" Hamburg has rejected the offer from Real Madrid...the negotiations are in stalemate ...for now!

REAL MADRID - RUUD VAN NISTELROOY | SIGNS OF BAD PLANNING BAD MANAGEMENT BAD ORGANIZATION

I heard the news on Friday & could not believe it, REAL MADRID wanted to recoup RUUD VAN NISTELROOY as their Number Nine for the rest of the season & thus be the substitute for Higuain. I frankly did not have words or even motives to figure out this “surreal” manoeuvre from Real Madrid. Today with some days of wondering I do have some personal comments that can only explain this comedy as very bad planning & management at the Spanish Club.

Real Madrid CF
Van Nistelrooy farewelled end of season 2009-2010

Although the ex-Real Madrid player will soon be 35 years of age, Van Nistelrooy has not lost the goal touch or the hunger as he is proving this season in the Bundesliga & with HAMBURG. The player is a natural “goal square killer” & possibly the Best Number Nine to run on a Football field since Marco Van Bastan; all class & full of art. Thinking coldly, the idea of recuperating Van Nistelrooy for Real Madrid may not be such a bad idea. The player knows the Club, knows the current players, ends contract & is currently a free agent, would accept a secondary role, Mourinho approves, the Real Madrid fans love him & fits the Clubs prerequisites of a “band-aid” six month solution. As mentioned on other occasions here, Real Madrid will sign a World Class Striker at the end of the season the correct moment when the Club will make its huge investment & the hot names are Fernando Llorente ( 30-35M€ At Bilbao) or Sergio Aguero ( 40M€ At. Madrid).

However, putting aside the idea of Van Nistelrooy & whether its good or not, the situation is very alarming at Real Madrid & the entrepreneurial & organizational image being projected is of complete incompetence. Allow me to analysis some points:

1. The arrogance. Real Madrid sell Van Nistelrooy to Hamburg – apart the Club that gives Van Nistelrooy another chance at top level Football - & Real Madrid decide unilaterally one day to take back from Hamburg a player that has become vital for them upfront & at the moment their only true forward. How must Hamburg feel? Yes, its a good chance for the German Club to get some money for a "free agent" player, but it would leave them wounded as a team the rest of the season. Latest is that Hamburg has said NO ( for now) & some sources ( Mundo Deportivo) claim the German Club wants 3-4M€. Costly "band-aid solution".

2. Incompetent pre-season planning. Real Madrid has a General Manager Jorge Valdano, a Football Manager in Miguel Pardeza & a Institutional Manager in Emilio Butrageño.
All three are ex-Real Madrid players with vast experience in the Football World whom apart from this have extra teams of advisors & experts to complement their office. Didn´t they see this happening? No one took this 2011 situation as a possibility? In fact, Coach Mourinho warned in August 2010 that the Club was seriously handicapped & was risking going in to the season with just two forwards (Higuain & Benzema)

3. Club organizational fiasco. When Gonzalo Higuain was diagnosed with a back disc-hernia - late Nov early Dec 10 - the controversy & debate was which treatment to receive a) conservative rest & possible recovery in 4 weeks or b) operation & out of play 3 months. The “medical experts” gave false hopes to Higuain who naturally decided to cling to hope & not be operated. This eliminated the option of signing a Number Nine for the “Winter Market”, a forward Mourinho was screaming for & had a player ready: Almeida. On the return from his Xmas holidays Gonzalo Higuain had not bettered & the Operation option was now the only road. Result,  out all season & the sudden urge & need to sign a forward in a European Market that was fall of costly “left overs” that did not fit the Club profile.

What has happened? Why this urgent need? Why this image of amateur improvisation from a Club who claims to be the “Biggest in the Football World”. Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is one of Spain’s & Europe’s big Business Men running one of Europe’s biggest construction companies. Would he allow this sort of goings on with Real Madrid in his ACS Construction Empire? Certainly not?

It is clear that perhaps President Florentino Perez should think about cleaning up the house at the end of the season & getting rid of some professionals who are not up to the levels needed of management & organization at Real Madrid. Someone or some people ( directives, medical staff, advisors...etc) need to be held responsible for this whole sign now, it’s off, no signing, thinking about it & yes we will go for Van Nistelrooy episodes. Makes you wonder: why did Real Madrid sell Van Nistelrooy (& Raul) in the first place?

THE REAL MADRID Nº9 DILEMMA | TO WAIT OR NOT TO WAIT FOR FERNANDO LLORENTE

The longer than expected prognosticated comeback of forward Gonzalo Higuain who will virtually miss the rest of the season (4 months at 50-70%), has forced REAL MADRID Directives to back on their words & now admit that they are willing to sign a Nº9, but not any Nº9.

Club Director General Jorge Valdano commented to Spanish TV last night that they were looking for a player for the next 6 months & very economical. This has opened up a wide range of players that today Spanish Sports daily “Marca” puts up as possible names:

Spanish Soccer
Valdez, Luis Fabiano, Adebayor, Klose;
Lisandro, Mario Gómez, Gekas & Salía

However, Real Madrid does not just want a Nº9 whatever,  or a “band-aid” solution for 6 months, they wish a Top World Class player with future projection that will stay at the Club for years: here is precisely the problem.

A top class player at this stage of the season is virtually impossible to sign as most Clubs will refuse to let them go, plus the investment needed goes beyond the 30-40M€ mark. But there is one player that suits all the Real Madrid prerequisites & I have a feeling that a verbal agreement has been reached BUT for the end of the season: Athletic de Bilbao & Spanish International Nº9 FERNANDO LLORENTE.

There is a rumour that Athletic Club President Fernando Garcia Macua has asked Real Madrid not to make an offer for Llorente before the end of the season because Bilbao celebrates Presidential Club elections in March. A Llorente transfer NOW would guarantee the certain defeat of Macua, debilitate that current squad & cause a serious fan base backlash that everyone wishes to avoid. Thus Real Madrid has agreed they would negotiate & sign Llorente at the end of this season.

Everyone knows that Llorente is the man, the problem now is should they sign now someone else & risk a huge investment for a player that may turn out to be a complete failure & cause problems at the end of the season.

The solution? A difficult one, the only logical option is a 6 month loan but that incurres lot of risks & brings to light a poor in-house organization & planning job that calls for some head cutting later on.

The question: wait for Fernando Llorente or not to wait for Fernando Llorente

P.S. In the last weeks, Atletico de Madrid forward SERGIO AGUERO has been flying around. Nice option if Llorente becomes difficult.

ATLETICO DE MADRID PRESENTS NEW SIGNING JUANFRAN FROM OSASUNA

ATLETICO DE MADRID made official to media today their new signing in the "Winter Market" that cost 5 M€ : JUANFRAN. The 26 year old right-winger was "raised" at Real Madrid before signing to his last Club OSASUNA where he played 5 seasons & has made a name for himself. The player comes in to "fill" the gap left by Simao who left for Turkish Club Besiktas & has been immediately called up into tomorrows Atletico team to play the Spanish Cup 1ºleg Q/Final clash against Real Madrid.

JuanFran joins Elias as new members of Atletico, the latter being signed weeks ago from Brazilian Club Corinthians.

REAL MADRID DILEMMA 2011 | GONZALO HIGUAIN WILL BE OPERATED

REAL MADRID forward GONZALO HIGUAIN will need to undergo surgury for his back-disc hernia. The Argentine flys of to Chicago for the operation & will leave the Spanish Club "orphen" for at least 3 months. The question then arises if the player will be able to recover in time before the end of the season & if he will be able to recuperate his agility.

Gonzalo Higuain

A real dilemma for Coach Jose Mourinho who warned at the start of the season that he needed another "top" striker in case this precise situation occured. The apparent alternative striker Karim Benzema is not proving to be a viable option & Mourinho does not see the Frenchman as being able to fill the gap left open by the Higuain injury.

Mourinho has been calling for an emergency signing in this "Winter Transfer Market" period but the Club has refused & insists in Benzema , a youngster from the B team &/or a re-design of the team. This has lead to very public conflicts between Mourinho  & Real Madrid Directives but - for the moment - the Directives have their way & Mourinho is resigned to face the rest of the season without a Nº9 that can guarantee goals.

Will Real Madrid sign? The rumour is that the Nº9 that has been "verbally" talked is Athletic de Bilbao Spanish International FERNANDO LLORENTE, but there is a gentlemans pact that Real Madrid will not "attack" until the end of this season because At. Bilbao will celebrate Presidential Club elections & the departure NOW of Llorente would cause a sever Club - fan base backlash.

So, big decisions as Real Madrid & if they finally do not sign ( on loan ) a forward I am sure Mourinho will re-design the team with Cristiano Ronaldo acting as a Nº9 ( as done before at Manchester United) & place Kaká in someway to make compatible with Ozil. What is certain is that Benzema is in his final opportunities stage at the Club & must prove that he is the "right man" & change attitudes with goals when put into the main stage.

ATLETICO DE MADRID PRESENTS NEW SIGNING ELIAS

Thought our Brazilian readers & global ATLETICO DE MADRID fans may be interested in seeing the new signing ELIAS MENDES from Corinthians with the Atletico shirt on. Although the players is already training with the squad the Club presented their new midfielder to the national media this afternoon.

Elias Mendes Spanish Soccer

One wonders if Elias has a sense of humour when he commented that both Roberto Carlos & Ronaldo ( ex - Real Madrid stars) recommended that he sign with Atletico.

To finish off & staying with the signings rumours. The talk is that Atletico is talking with Osasuna player JuanFran & Valencia CF winger Vicente. Stay tuned!

REAL MADRID - INTER MILAN | KAKA IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE

Did not wish to get into this but the persistent rumours have made it that I would like to inform the global REAL MADRID fans that KAKA is NOT going anywhere fast. Yes, there has been news from Italy that INTER MILAN wanted the Brazilian on loan for the rest of the season & even a transfer was mentioned at some point by some Italian media source. Yes, the rumours are that Inter was sending "spies" to watch how Kaka performs coming out of injury for next weeks Liga & Spanish cup matches. However, lets get back some common sense & calm ourselves down before allowing this story to go on further.

Kaka source:Ap

1. The Kaka rumour helped Inter create a "smoke-screen" to deviate attention from local tiffosi  while it solved its Coaching crisis & Benitez sacking.
2. Kaka has been out of action 6 months, we dont even know how he will comeback , although we are confident that he will be a value asset for Real Madrid in coming months
3. Kaka cost Real Madrid around 68M€, they aren´t  going to sell at a loss & Inter hasn´t the money.
4. Has anyone asked Kaka? The man hasn´t said a word since all these rumours appeared.
5. New Inter Milan Coach Leonardo has just said today at his official presentation that Kaka will NOT leave Real Madrid without beforehand doing big things at the Spanish Club.

So, Kaka isn´t going nowhere this season. Real Madrid fans stay cool.

SPANISH FOOTBALL | WINTER TRANSFER MARKET 2011

Back posting after a brief Christmas Break were I hope that you have had some wonderful days of relax, family warmth & lots of presents. The Spanish Football scene is relatively quiet as the Spanish League is enjoying their Xmas Break with news being generated by the rumours of new incorporations as of January 2011

Affelley-FC-Barcelona-Spanish Soccer
Affeley presented as new Barça player

The winter “Transfer Market” kicks in the 3rd of January 2011, date that new players can be registered in the Spanish League. There are lots of rumours on players movements but what is certain is that the economic crisis is playing a role & the signing market is not so buoyant as past years. The only team that is really going serious this “Winter Market” is Malaga FC who has already 2 shut & is negotiating 4 more that are close to being official in terms of a loan &/or buy.

Here are some names that we expect to see in La Liga as of next week:

MALAGA FC : confirmed  are De Michelis (loan Bayern Munich) – Maresca
Negotiating the loan of Asenjo (At Madrid) & the signing of Camacho (At Madrid)
Negotiating the signing of José Angel (Sporting Gijon)
Negotiating Julio Baptista (AC Roma)

FC BARCELONA  – signed Afelley
AT MADRID – signed Elias (Corinthians)

No doubt more names will be appearing & being made official in the next coming days. Stay tuned

MALAGA FC | BAYERN MUNICH DEFENDER MARTIN DEMICHELIS ON LOAN UNTIL JUNE 2011

Having a look today through Spanish Sports daily "AS" I was taken back to see that BAYERN MUNICH & Argentine International defender MARTIN DEMICHELIS will be a MALAGA player after Christmas. The 30 year old come as a LOAN until the end of June 2011 & then Malaga has a 3M€ option to keep the defender with a buy if they choose to exercise the option.

Demichelis for Bayern Munich

The player is not having minutes at Bayern as he is not counting at all for Coach Van Gaal. Apparently, the players representative will be at the Malaga Spanish Cup match tonight to fine-tune the details before shutting the deal.

An interesting option for Malaga who are going through a rough patch & will find this player/defender of value.

ATLETICO DE MADRID | SIMAO LEAVES FOR BESIKTAS IN 2011 WINTER TRANSFER MARKET

Turkish Club BESIKTAS have announce & made official via their Web the Winter Market Transfer of ATLETICO DE MADRID player SIMAO. The charismatic midfielder finishes contract & Atletico wished to make some cash before Simao became a free agent at of the 1st of January. The economic details have not been made available & the Portuguese player will join ex Real Madrid player Guti & Coach Schuster.

Simao

BESIKTAS have gone serious, have also worked hard & managed to also sign MANUEL FERNANDES from VALENCIA CF & ALMEIDA from German Club WERNER BREMEN.

VIDEO | ELIAS - NEW ATLETICO DE MADRID SIGNING

Brazilian & Corinthians 25 year old midfielder ELIAS is headed to Atletico de Madrid & will arrive in the "Winter Market" this Juanuary 2011. Here is a taste of what the man can do & hoping he can transfer it to Atletico:

WINTER TRANSFER MARKET 2011 | ATLETICO DE MADRID CLOSE TO SIGNING CORINTHIANS MIDFIELDER ELIAS

According to Spanish Sports paper "AS", ATLETICO DE MADRID is on the verge of signing 25 year old Brazilian & CORINTHIANS midfielder ELIAS MENDES TRINIDADE for a price of around 7M€. The player has Portugueses Club Benfica asking & interested as well but it seems that the player will end up in Atletico as of this January 2011.

Elias for Corinthians
Corinthians is fighting with Fluminense for the Brazilian title & both have one game left in their season. This will liberate Elias to come over to Atletico after Christmas.

Stay tuned until the player officially signs. Until then it is still pure speculation.

LATEST - Elias confirms he is going to Atletico

FC BARCELONA HAS AGREEMENT FOR IBRAHIM AFELLAY FOR JANUARY 2011

According to news just in to Spanish Sports daily "Marca",  via its online channel, FC BARCELONA has come to an agreement with PSV EINDHOVEN for the transfer of 24 year old midfielder IBRAHIM AFELLAY. The Dutchman will arrive in Juanuary 2011 during the "Winter Transfer Market" opening window. The player finishes contract this season & would have become a "free agent" as of the 1ºst of January 2011, thus his Club has sold him "prematurely" to at least get some money before seeing Afellay leave without gaining a cent.

Ibrahim Afellay

The deal is said to be around 3M€ & the young player signs for 4 to 5 seasons with Barça. This way Coach Guardiola has an extra option & a quality player with Xavi Hernandez experiencing spells of "suffering" from his delicate ankles - just in case.

CAN THIS BE TRUE - ATLETICO DE MADRID OFFERS REAL MADRID DIEGO FORLAN FOR 18M€?

For those who went to pick up the Spanish Sports daily “Marca” this morning they may have been surprised to read,  that according to the paper, ATLETICO DE MADRID has Uruguayan forward DIEGO FORLAN on sale & for the upcoming “Winter Market” next January 2011. That’s not the big surprise, the eye lifter is that the daily says that his Club has offered the player to REAL MADRID! But there is more to make the Atletico fan wonder; the price called for by Atletico is 18M€, that is half the price of his opt-out contract clause. Can we believe this news?

The facts are that the Striker hasn’t scored for months, is undergoing possibly his most serious goal dry spell which is affecting him psychologically & his relationship with Coach Quique Sanchez Flores is very cold. A couple of months back, Diego Forlan irritated Club & fans when he said to English TV that if someone came with an offer he would leave. Words that he latter explained were taken out of context due to translation reasons...mmmmm.

Apart from the possibility of Real Madrid studying the “offer”, there are two other known Clubs that have shown real interest, they are English Premier League Club TOTTENHAM & Italian Club JUVENTUS.

I will keep an eye out on this story & see if “Marca” are using their usual Marketing “tricks”, that perhaps the players inner – circle is testing the atmosphere or it is all totally false. Stay tuned!
