SPANISH FOOTBALL PROMOTION | VILLAREAL FC JOINS ELCHE NEXT SEASON IN LIGA

The Spanish Football League - Liga - ended last week with "collateral damage", three Clubs relegated to the Spanish 2º Division: Real Mallorca, Real Zaragoza & Deportivo A Coruña. Obviously, three Clubs from the 2º Division are needed to lift into Liga & fill the spaces for season 2013-2014.

Elche was the first to be promoted after mathematically achieving the prize weeks ago. Today we have the second team the wins promotion, Villareal CF returns after falling last year from Liga with their 1- 0 victory over another candidate Almeria.

The goal that put Villareal back into Liga & made the city of Villareal explode with joy came in the 55th min thanks to J.Pereira. Almeria could have promoted had they won but they will now join Girona, Alcorcon & Las Palmas ( Canary Is.) in a home & away play-off series to see which of theses gets the last place to promote into the Spanish First Division.

The sad news is that four Clubs fall into the Spanish 2ºB Division : Guadalajara ( due to an administrative sanction ) Xerez, Huesca & Racing the Santander.

Therefore, the upcoming play-offs for the last place to promote into Liga:

Almeria - Las Palmas ( home & away )
Alcorcon - Girona ( home & away )
12th & 15th of June

The winners will play each other for the last Liga place.

REAL MADRID - VILLAREAL | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULTS | GROUP A - D

Two SPANISH FOOTBALL Clubs had CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Group duties tonight with final mixed results. Here is a brief summary of the events, the results & all the scorers.

Ribery for Bayern Munich

VILLAREAL travelled to Munich to play their Group A match against BAYERN & lost 3 - 1, thus ( nearly impossible saving themselves ) blowing out all their Euro - Champions League candles. It was always going to be difficult for the Spaniards who have most of their big names injured & travelled to Germany with 4 juniors who saw this stage a bit too big tonight for a life saving performance.

Frenchmen & Bayern player RIBERY found his inspiration tonight & scored two great goals ( 2nd & 66th min), while his partner in crime, MARIO GOMEZ scored his goal in the 23rd min. To Villareal´s credit they managed a pride winner with a goal in the 49th min by DE GUZMAN. 

Sahin for Real Madrid

REAL MADRID defeated 6 - 2 DYNAMO ZAGREB in a one way demolition job that was cosmetically made up for the Croatians by a "over-confident & relaxed" end of match Madrid that saw how the opponents scored two goals. The first for the Croatian team, by BEQIRAJ in the 81st min, was unstoppable, but the second by TOMAECAK in the 90th min was a Madrid defensive mistake. Dynamo leave Madrid with at least some pride as the goal scoreline could have been a riot had Zagreb goalie KELEVA hadn't stopped four clear chances & if Benzema & Callejon had had more luck.

ADÁN; LASS, VARANE, RAMOS, COENTRAO; XABI ALONSO, SAHIN; CALLEJÓN, ÖZIL, BENZEMA; HIGUAÍN, 
giving rest to the big name regular players & giving Sahin a full match to see how the man is developing. Also Coach Mourinho put up front together Benzema & Higuain & as things turned out it all paid off well.


Real Madrid was 4 - 0 in the first 20 MINUTES with goals from BENZEMA ( 2nd min), CALLEJON ( 6th min), HIGUAIN ( 9th min ) & OZIL ( 27th min). Zagreb were rattled & the opportunities kept coming, but Dynamo kept miraculously afloat.

The second half saw this starting line-up for Real Madrid:

Adán; Lass, Albiol, Varane, Coentrao; Sahin, Granero; Altintop, Callejón, Benzema & Higuaín , 

& it made no difference as Madrid - less intense & more relaxed - kept flying. The goals came in the 49th min via CALLEJON & BENZEMA in the 66th min.

From here with 6 - 0 up Real Madrid had some lapses at the end that allowed two consolation goals to Zagreb. Well done by the visitors who really went through a "swallow me up earth please"  70 mins period of play. 

Real Madrid are unbeaten in their Group matches with 15 points & have the top spot assured. Tonight they sent a message to all & especially ATLETICO DE MADRID who they play next Saturday in the Liga ( local derby).

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULTS | VILLAREAL 0 MAN CITY 3 | OLYMPIQUE DE LYON 0 REAL MADRID 2

VILLAREAL & REAL MADRID had CHAMPIONS LEAGUE obligations tonight with their respective Group matches. Here are the final results & the scorers.

Villareal - Man City

VILLAREAL hosted MANCHESTER CITY in their Group A match & went down 0 - 3. The Spanish Football Club was very undermanned with half a dozen key players out with injury, but this is not an excuse as Manchester City was a deserved winner.

YAYA TOURE put in two fabulous goals in the 30th & 70th min, with BALOTELLI scoring his goal in the 48th min. Spanish International DAVID SILVA is in sweet form & helped Manchester City in the creativity area, to make us locals realize how much we miss the player in La Liga.

OLYMPIQUE DE LYON went down to REAL MADRID 0 - 2 in their Group D match & gives the latter a secured participation spot in the post-Group phase of Champions League. The match could be basically divided into two; a first half with Real Madrid flowing & overriding Lyon & a second half with Lyon playing better, hitting the bar & making Real goalie Casillas work hard, in fact, to much for what was considered a "fairly" controlled game. 


The two goals came from CRISTIANO RONALDO with the first a free-kick power-driver in the 29th min & via a penalty taken,  as a "cool cucumber",  in the 70th min.

VILLAREAL FC | BAD LUCK INJURIES

You maybe wondering what has occurred to Spanish Football Club VILLAREAL this season. The Club finished in Champions League positions last season & is currently struggling in La Liga & has already said goodbye to Champions. Plus their Coach Garrido, considered a rising Football Coach promise, is against the ropes with his position on the line.

The answer? The worst line of injuries I have seen for many a time at one Club: Senna, Cani, Camuñas, Zapata, Marcos Ruben, Nilmar, Rossi & Marchena. All top players & internationals in their majority.

VILLAREAL FC | WITHOUT A TRUE FORWARD

There are those with a "superstitious" edge claiming that VILLAREAL has a "curse" on the Number 9 - forward - position. This has been heightened by the injury to ROSSI who has injured himself while training with the Italian National Team. This leaves Villareal without a true forward. The other two forwards in the side Marcos Ruben ( out 15 days ) & Nilmar ( knee operation out 2 months) have also fallen to this "bad spell" of injury.

Witchcraft aside, the situation is obviously bad but this opens an opportunity for a non-regular player,  or a youngster from the junior teams,  to perhaps get a playing chance. Thus we may see a new talent emerge if whoever does fill the gap takes his chance with some goals.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULTS | NAPOLES 2 VILLAREAL 0 | REAL MADRID 3 AJAX AMSTERDAM 0

Two SPANISH FOOTBALL Clubs participated tonight in their respective CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Group matches with mixed end results. Here is a brief summary of events, along with the final results & the scorers.

Napoles scores from penalty

VILLAREAL travelled to Italy to face NAPOLES in their Group A ( "Group of Death") match & lost 2 - 0. Villareal knew beforehand that a victory here was vital for their aspirations & may have suffered from the tension & the nerves. The Italians did the damage,  & the job,  in the first half with goals from HEMSIK in the 13th min & CAVANI in the 16th min via a penalty.

Villareal pulled from pride & managed to play better in the 2º half & claimed a penalty on Nilmar in the 82nd min which was not called. However, the Italians were too Italian & locked the match to their advantage & assured the three points

All uphill for Villareal from now on. 

Kaka scores for Real Madrid

REAL MADRID defeated 3 - 0 AJAX OF AMSTERDAM with deadly counter-attacking play. The news from this match was the big improvement of Brazilian midfielder KAKA who put in his best performance for many months at Real Madrid. The other headline was VARANE who played from the start (ahead of Albiol) & was outstanding,  & Turkish new signing ALTINTOP got a run at the end after months injured from a back operation.

AJAX played their best Football the first 25 minutes forcing Real Madrid goalie Casillas to pull two great saves to avoid his team getting behind. But the Dutch slowing lost steam & in a deadly counter-attack on speed & one touch combination Football CRISTIANO RONALDO finally riffled the first in the 25th min.  Then just before the end of the first half a combination play with CR7 set up KAKA & allowed the latter to place the ball in the 41st min for the second goal. The Brazilian was ecstatic as he began to once again feel the "flow" & the importance of being a Top Football player. BENZEMA scored the third in the 48th min & it was precisely thanks to a Kaka set-up. From here the match lost intensity as changes began from both sides. Benzema went off with a pull groin muscle complaint that will have to see what are the results. Ajax admirably did not put the head down & managed to force Casillas to make another top save mid way & kept battling . 

As mentioned above, Real Madrid Turkish signing ALTINTOP came on for the last 15 minutes to his & the crowds delight as he begins his full recovery & aim to get back at playing Football

VILLAREAL 0 - BAYERN MUNICH 2 | DYNAMO ZAGREB 0 - REAL MADRID 1 | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP GAMES RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL Clubs VILLAREAL & REAL MADRID had their turn tonight in CHAMPIONS LEAGUE with their respective Group A & Group D participation. The final outcome & results were mixed as the following summary shows with results & scores.

Kross scores for Bayern

VILLAREAL hosted German giants BAYERN MUNICH in their Group A - "Death Group" - match & lost 0 - 2. The Germans were the better team & more tuned-in with TONI KROSS scoring a "quickie" in the 6th min to set the road & course. The Spaniards attempt to lift & showed some positive signs for the rest of the 1ºst half, but Bayern kept it all under control.

The second half was mostly all German & they managed to seal things in the 75th min with a nice goal from RAFINHA. A deserved win for Bayern & Villareal starts badly in a Group that is very complicated with Manchester City & Napoles. By the way their game finished in a 1 - 1 draw.

Di Maria REAL MADRID

REAL MADRID travelled to Croatia & meet DYNAMO ZAGREB to win 0 - 1 in their Group D clash. Real Madrid in an unusual RED UNIFORM played a very sticky, complicated & active Dynamo that made Real Madrid work hard & put things difficult for the Spanish Football Club. In fact, Real Madrid played the last quarter with 10 men after MARCELO was sent off ( double yellow) for "faking" a dive in the penalty area. Harsh decision as it looked that he may have been touched, but the referee considered otherwise. Ronaldo received two harsh tackles that should have seen Red Card for the Croatian defender, & post match need his ankle stitched from the cut.

Real Madrid was not sharp tonight & at times loose as they had to beat off some close moments, while the "Man of the Match" for Dynamo was their goalie KELAVA who stopped half a dozen shots with danger; on top of all this there was a post by Benzema. It wasn't until the 53rd min that DI MARIA scored the Real Madrid goal & steadied things. However, Real faced danger until the end & had to work real hard tonight for their three points. By the way, great match from Real defender PEPE & COENTRAO.

Dymano should be happy tonight with their particular performance as they gave an excellent image after being away from European Champions for the last 12 years.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RETURNS | FC BARCELONA - VILLAREAL TONIGHT

The much awaited CHAMPIONS LEAGUE competition returns tonight with Group matches scheduled, & in the Spanish Football case, the participation of Valencia CF ( vs Genk GROUP E) & FC Barcelona (GROUP H). Perhaps the latter is of greater interest due to the fact that Barça plays AC MILAN.

The Spanish Sports paper based in Barcelona, Sport, have ventured to "predict" a possible starting line-up for FC BARCELONA. The predicted line-up looks as always powerful with the possible inclusion of Carles Puyol in defence, although one will have to see if Puyol starts or gets a run later. For Milan there is a notable absence, that of Ibahimovic who did not travel due to injury.

VILLAREAL LOSE 1 - 0 AWAY TO ODENSE BK | PRELIMINARY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 1st LEG GAME

SPANISH FOOTBALL Club VILLAREAL travelled to Denmark to play their preliminary CHAMPIONS LEAGUE qualifier against ODENSE BK & finished with a surprising & "unjust" 1- 0 defeat result. The Danes started well & had their chances early but Villareal soon took over proceedings with some lovely touch Football & plenty of chances upfront - especially in the 2 half - with Rossi, Nilmar, cani & Valero all having their chances.

And here was the problem, that Villareal paid for not converting their multiple chances into goals. Added to this,  a terrible defensive mistake allowed ANDREASEN to score the winner in the 83rd min for the Danes that poured cold water over the Spaniards.

Complicated finish for Villareal which must attempt to get back & finish off the Danes in the return 2º leg match at home. I think they can do it as Villareal was clearly the better side tonight but was unfairly "stumped" by Odense & by the "Football Gods".

MALAGA FC SIGNS SPANISH FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL CAZORLA

SPANISH FOOTBALL Club MALAGA FC keeps on adding, building & putting together a formidable squad for the new upcoming season. The lastest incorporation is none other than Spanish International & now ex-VILLAREAL midfielder SANTIAGO CAZORLA. The player signs with Malaga for the next 5 years.  Villareal find themselves in need to secure their future financially & have been forced to sell some of their top players ( Rossi could be next).

Cazorla flys of to Holland to join the team where they are training & participating in friendly matches & will be presented officially on the teams return to Malaga next week.

BENFICA CLOSE TO SIGNNING VILLAREAL SPANISH FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL CAPDEVILA

Portuguese Club BENFICA has "tweeted" this interesting picture. Its Benfica President Luis Felipe with Spanish International & VILLAREAL Spanish Football Player CAPDEVILA. Mates? Was in Lisbon & I thought I would drop in to say hello?

No, apparently putting the final touches to a transfer agreement were Capdevila is the chosen defender to take the place of the now Real Madrid player Fabio Coentrao. The transfer is not official as neither Villareal nor Benfica have made any announcements, but this picture speaks a thousand words.

Congrats to Benfica who picks up a veteran, but a very experienced & very good Football player.

ATLETICO DE MADRID OFFERS 30M€ TO VILLAREAL FOR ROSSI - DIEGO LOPEZ

Seems like ATLETICO DE MADRID is finally accepting the inevitable, that their star forward   Sergio Aguero will be leaving the Club. Things are not all bad, if an alternative Club comes along & pays 45M€ imagine what "goodies" you can buy in the transfer market to cover the absense.

Atletico are apparently working on how to best invest a possible 45M€ income bonus & two names are now "hot" in the SPANISH FOOTBALL rumour treadmill. According to Spanish Sports paper "Marca" Atletico is willing to give VILLAREAL 30M€ for goalkeeper DIEGO LOPEZ ( to cover the gap left by De Gea) & for Italian International forward ROSSI. The last mentioned player was linked earlier this year with FC Barcelona, but that option has evaporated into thin air.


My first impression is that 30M€ is a bit "cheap" for both players, as Villareal have previously told Barça that just Rossi was valued at 30M€. My initial thought is that Atletico may have to raise a bit the offer if they are to snatch both players. Having said this, I think both are outstanding & great value for Atletico, especially Rossi whom scored 19 goals last season & is definitely "World class" material.

You see, there is life & future beyond & after Aguero if he does finally leave. Stay tuned.

FC BARCELONA TRANSFER GOSSIP | VILLAREAL FORWARD GIUSEPPE ROSSI ON AGENDA

FC BARCELONA are also thinking & planning next season 2011 - 2012 with signing rumours appearing in the local Spanish Sports newspapers. According to "As", ALEX SANCHEZ is very muched liked at "Camp Barça" but the 40M€ price tag that Manchester City has placed on the players out of its orbit.

However, there is a magnificent alternative that currently plays at VILLAREAL. Italian International forward GIUSEPPE  ROSSI would be that other name as FC Barcelona have been following the man for months. The player has 18 goals in the Spanish Football League & is also being watched by other European Clubs.

Villareal asks for around 35M€, but the inclusion of young Bojan in the operation may lower that figure significantly to help advance negotiations.

VILLAREAL 3 PORTO 2 ( 4 - 7 AGG) RESULT | VILLAREAL SAYS GOODBYE WITH STYLE FROM THE EUROPA LEAGUE

It could not be for Spanish Football Club VILLAREAL although they won their game 3 - 2 against PORTO tonight in the return leg of the EURORA LEAGUE semi final going down bravely & admirably. The 5 -1 away score line in favour of Porto was way to much to pull back against this competent 6 fantastic team which has all the look of going all the way. The final aggregate result was 4 - 7 in Porto´s favour

The Spanish Team started well & gave rise to a possible miracle when CANI opened the scoring in the 17th min, but Villareal then failed too many chances & Porto recomposed themselves to answer in a firm manner that things would not change away from their grip on the semi-final. HULK took care of sending that message in the 40th min with his amazing team-mate FALCAO scoring the second in the 47th min.

Villareal had already made history getting here & didn't want to let down their local fans & reacted with true spirit that can only be applauded. Spanish defender CAPDEVILA equalized in the 75th min & then ROSSI put Villareal ahead via a penalty in the 80th.

Villareal may have lost the semi final tie, but at least won this battle at home & gave a wonderful image of themselves & of Spanish Football. The Portuguese Club Porto look very good, & are an excellent line-up that will be difficult to beat in the Final,  & from here I send them my congratulations.

FC BARCELONA LEADS IFFHS BEST WORLD CLUBS LIST

This news piece appears just hours before the decisive Champions League 2 leg semi-final clash between FC BARCELONA - REAL MADRID. The FIFA backed IFFHS ( International Football Federation of History & Statistics) has released its list of "Top World Clubs" with FC Barcelona leading Real Madrid in second place,  & Villareal jumping in at 7th position. Great to see Villareal amongst the best Clubs in the World, its a worthy prize for doing things well at the Club.

PORTO 5 VILLAREAL 1 | SPANIARDS STEAM-ROLLED IN EUROPA LEAGUE 1º LEG SEMI

Portuguese League Champions PORTO took the sail out of the "Yellow Submarine" after defeating Spanish Football Club VILLAREAL 5 - 1 in the 1º leg of the EUROPA LEAGUE semi final. The Portuguese Club put in an electric second half that knocked the Spaniards onto the "Football canvass".

It looked in the first half that Villareal would surprise the hot favourites after demonstrating some great play & a 45th min goal from CANI after Nilmar made a magnificent run down the wing & made a precision pass.

Then the second half began & Porto began its comeback, transformation & demolition job with a 48th min penalty converted by FALCAO. The Portuguese side looked totally different from the first half & were demonstrating why many consider them the hot favourites for the Europa League Title. GUARIN popped in the second in the 61st min, followed by FALCAO again twice in the 67th min & 74th min to grab his HAT-TRICK.

Villareal attempt to at least score another & attempt to salvage something for the 2º leg return leg, but Porto goalkeeper Helton stopped that idea.

Then the final nail in the Villareal coffin came in the 90th min when FALCAO again scored & notched his fourth for the night.

Porto have virtually assured their pass onto the final, with the exception of a "miracle" comeback at Villareal next week. An event I doubt will occur witnessing the steam-roller exhibition tonight by Porto.

TWENTE 1 VILLAREAL 3 (2-8 AGG)| EUROPA LEAGUE 2º LEG QUARTER FINAL RESULT

Another Spanish Football Team gets into the semi-finals of a European Football competition. TWENTE lost 1 - 3 to VILLAREAL ( 2 - 8 Agg ) in the 2º leg of the EUROPA LEAGUE Quarter - Final.

The game was a very physical affair with a lot of contact that lead to many fouls. The Dutch Club started strong as they had no other alternative than to go all out to attack. Twente scored first in the 32nd min via BAJRAMI &  were rewarded for their iniciative.

However , Villareal managed to turn things their way in the second half with more attacking play & were awarded a penalty when Twente defender Tiendalli fouled Villareal player Wakaso & was sent off. Twente was down to 10 men, ROSSI equalized for the Spanish Club in the 59th min. With Twente in a numbers disadvantage Villareal exploited the gaps & were again awarded another penalty when Buysse fouled Perez in the box to which MARCO RUBEN coverted in the 83rd min. Then Villareal midfielder CANI pulled a "blinder" in the 89th min to put Villareal 3rd goal on their score sheet.

Villareal will now face Portuguese Club OPORTO in the semi-finals. A difficult encounter as the Portuguese are on "fire" & currently favourites to take the Europa League title.

VILLAREAL 5 TWENTE 1 | EUROPA LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL 1º LEG RESULT

Celebration was the word for Spanish Football & for VILLAREAL with their impressive 5 - 1 victory over current Dutch League leaders TWENTE. Don`t believe many would have bet before tonights Q/Final 1º st match of the EUROPA LEAGUE that the result was going to be so large & the game so one sided.

There is not muuch to say in terms of details except to give the scorers starting with Villareal players. Defender MARCHENA scored first in the 22nd min, followed by BORJA VALERO in the 43rd min, NILMAR with two in the 46th min & later in the 81st min, & finally ROSSI scored in the 55th min.

Twente got a consolation goal late in the 90th min via JANKO.

One can assume that Villareal has virtually sealed their ticket for the Europa League upcoming semi-finals & it looks that they are in a collision course with Oporto who also did well in their Q/Final clash. However, before shouting "victory",  Villareal will travel to Holland next week for the return 2º leg match.

EUROPA LEAGUE Q/FINALS DRAW | VILLAREAL WITH TWENTE

Hi guys, been out away from a PC terminal, but apart from the Champions League draw this midday there was also the important EUROPA LEAGUE quater finals, semis & of course by logic, the final draw. The competition has VILLAREAL representing Spanish Football & they were matched with Twente as the diagram perfectly highlights. The Q/Final dates are 7th of April for the 1º leg & the 14th of April for the return 2º leg.

If Villareal manage to get passed the complicated Twente, they are on course to meet the current competition favourites Oporto ( if they too get passed Sp. Moscow). In all cases, we are in for some brilliant Footy games, can´t wait!

EUROPA LEAGUE RESULT | VILLAREAL 2 BAYERN LEVERKUSEN 1 ( 5 - 3 AGG) | VILLAREAL MOVES INTO QUARTER FINALS

SPANISH FOOTBALL managed to get another Club into the Quarter Finals stage, in this case, the EUROPA LEAGUE competition after VILLAREAL won 2 - 1 German Club BAYERN LEVERKUSEN in their return 2º leg clash ( 5-3 on aggregate)

The Germans played their best Football the first 30 mins of the first half were they looked dangerous & seemed like they may have a chance to turn things around. However, the 32nd min goal by Spanish International midfielder for Villareal SANTI CAZORLA gave the calmness needed for his team & shifted the objective further away from the Germans.

The sealer came in the 60th min when Cazorla combined with ROSSI with the latter riffling the second goal. The task was now beyond the Germans who did not give in & managed to get a consolation goal via DERDIYOK in the 80th min.
