Villareal celebrates a goal |
The game was a very physical affair with a lot of contact that lead to many fouls. The Dutch Club started strong as they had no other alternative than to go all out to attack. Twente scored first in the 32nd min via BAJRAMI & were rewarded for their iniciative.
However , Villareal managed to turn things their way in the second half with more attacking play & were awarded a penalty when Twente defender Tiendalli fouled Villareal player Wakaso & was sent off. Twente was down to 10 men, ROSSI equalized for the Spanish Club in the 59th min. With Twente in a numbers disadvantage Villareal exploited the gaps & were again awarded another penalty when Buysse fouled Perez in the box to which MARCO RUBEN coverted in the 83rd min. Then Villareal midfielder CANI pulled a "blinder" in the 89th min to put Villareal 3rd goal on their score sheet.
Villareal will now face Portuguese Club OPORTO in the semi-finals. A difficult encounter as the Portuguese are on "fire" & currently favourites to take the Europa League title.
