FIFA 2010 GOLDEN BALL AWARD | SURPRISED - NEGATIVE REACTIONS TO THE LIONEL MESSI ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi Guys, finally back home after a week out & again thanks for your patience as updating was not an easy task at all.

Spanish Soccer
Italian press surprised

Everyone was surprised yesterday at the announcement of LIONEL MESSI as the 2010 FIFA GOLDEN BALL winner. The reactions have been "negative" from many local Spanish Football commentators as they believed the XAVI & INIESTA had more merit for their performance during the year. In fact, the World Cup victory was not given any real weight in the final result which again lifted eyebrows. This article even goes on to say that if the "traditional voting method" had been used, Wesley Sneijder would have won the title.

Many have analysed the situation & think that Xavi & Iniesta took votes away from each other while Messi scooped the votes in “marginal countries” like Fiji for example & Asian-Pacific region were he has a much bigger profile.

Spanish Soccer
Messi with his 2010 Golden Ball Award

The "doubts" grow with everything associated with FIFA – French press in reference to Spain. The Spain-Portugal lost its 2016 World Cup candidacy to Russia with the other losing candidacy England expressing out loud what we all suspected claiming financial interests ahead of rational arguments. Australia lost its “promised” 2020 World Cup candidacy to Qatar again a country claiming foul play. But we all should have seen the warning lights when Inter Milan midfielder WESLEY SNEIJDER wasn’t even chosen in the Top 3 candidates; this really smelled.

The controversy was thus served & yesterdays results have added “wood to the fire” of “fixing” & dominance of “economic interests”. Some add - without proof - that France Football sells magazines & thus Messi is a more appropriate "front cover" as a buying instrument, others add the big multi-national sponsors "pressure" to have an appropriate winner with a “global” profile & lastly some have gone so far to insinuate that Messi may have known beforehand simply because he was the only player with a tuxedo…perhaps a too far fetched observation however curious.

I personally would not have given Messi the Award. His two colleagues won the same titles as he did (excepting the individual Golden Boot) & went further by proclaiming themselves World Champions, something Messi failed to achieve with Argentina & whose performance was below the expected.

Having said all this, one does accept that Lionel Messi is definitely the “Best Player in the World”, but not the “Best Player in the World” for 2010. Another example of “grey” manoeuvring & suspicions movements at FIFA which only serve to lessen further their credibility.

As for Messi, congratulations!

The FIFA Best XI for 2010:
Casillas, Maicon, Lúcio, Piqué, Puyol, Xavi, Sneijder, Iniesta, Messi, Villa & Cristiano.

Here Spanish Football - Spanish League was outstanding with 6 Spanish players plus 2 more ( Ronaldo + Messi) playing in Spain.

FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2010 | ANDRES INIESTA XAVI HERNANDEZ LIONEL MESSI THE THREE CANDIDATES

Now its official. FIFA has announced today the three candidates for the 2010 FIFA Golden Ball Award. All three currently play for FC BARCELONA, Andres Iniesta - Xavi Hernandez - Lionel Messi - with the winner to be announced on the 10th of Janaury 2011 in Zurich.

Messi, Iniesta & Xavi

The big surprise was the non-inclusion of Inter Milan player Wesley Sneijder whos place was taken by Messi. Many Football observers have announced their disagreement because Sneijder has won more 2010 titles than Messi & also because he reached the final of the World Cup with Holland.  Spanish paper "Mundo Deportivo" announced today's list last Friday & Italian daily "La Gazzetta Sportiva" also elected well yesterday with the last going further on to say that they had reliable "inside info" that ANDRES INIESTA would be the winner.

In the "Best Coach" category the three candidates are Vicente Del Bosque ( Spanish National Team ) , Josep Guardiola ( FC Barcelona ) & José Mourinho ( Inter MIlan/Real Madrid)

ITALIAN PRESS GIVES FC BARCELONA PLAYER ANDRES INIESTA THE FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2010

Last Friday I posted ( see below ) news from Barcelona Sports paper "Mundo Deportivo" that mentioned that FC Barcelona midfielder XAVI HERNANDEZ would be the winner of the 2010 FIFA Golden Ball Award according to a survey done to 75 Football personalities. The second place was for team-mates Andres Iniesta & third place for Lionel Messi. The interesting news was that Inter Milan player Wesley Sneijder was not mentioned as being in the Top 3.

This time we get news from Italy via "La Gazzette Sportiva" which assures that they have inside information that gives ANDRES INIESTA as the winner of the FIFA Golden Ball 2010, with team-mates Xavi Hernandez second & Lionel Messi third. The Italian press also places Inter Milan player Wesley Sneijder out of the Top 3.

Iniesta scores Spains winning goal in the
World Cup Final 2010

This is pure speculation until tomorrow when FIFA announces the three candidates that will be considered when FIFA makes public the Golden Ball Winner the 8th of January 2011. Only thing certain tomorrow will be if Messi or Sneijder male the Top 3 cut, & the winner will still be an unknown until 2011.

SPANISH PAPER PREDICTS XAVI HERNANDEZ WINNER OF FIFA GOLDEN BALL AWARD 2010

Barcelona based Sports Daily “Mundo Deportivo” has elaborated their own survey on which players are the favourites for this year FIFA Golden Ball Award 2010. According to the paper they have interviewed 75 World Football personalities; active players, international Coaches & retired prestigious players, to give an orientation of how things will go before FIFA announces officially the 3 candidates next Monday.

Xavi, Messi & Iniesta : the 3 Fifa Golden Ball candidates
according to the survey.

The survey conclusion gives the following result: the three candidates would be Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta & Lionel Messi. The surprise is that Inter Milan & Dutch International Wesley Sneijder does not make the cut.

The Spanish Sports paper prediction is that this year’s winner will - as well - be FC Bareclona midfielder XAVI HERNANDEZ, with second place going to Andres Iniesta & third place to Lionel Messi., a clean sweep for Barça.

Remember, this news piece comes out of a Barcelona based newspaper, interviewing 75 World Football personalities of which there is a bulk that are retired & have no voting rights. Thus at this moment it is all pure speculation & we all must await the official FIFA announcement. Said this, the “Mundo Deportivo” research exercise does serve to orientate us & the betting houses have taken note making Xavi “hot” favourite.

Stay tuned, we will officially have the 3 candidates in four days.

SPANISH FOOTBALL TEAM COACH VOTES FOR MESSI, RONALDO, SCHWEINSTEIGER FOR 2010 FIFA GOLDEN BALL

Hi punters! I thought you may find interesting to know the three votes given by Spanish National Football Team Selector & Coach Vicente Del Bosque for the 2010 FIFA Golden Ball Award. As you may already know, a Selector cannot vote for a player of his same country, thus Del Bosque had to pick from outside the Spanish Football Team

Spain Football Team Coach Vicente Del Bosque

His three votes were in this order:

1º - Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona/ Argentina)
2º - Cristiano Ronaldo ( Real Madrid / Portugal)
3º - Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich / Germany)

FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2010 | XAVI HERNANDEZ ANDRES INIESTA APPARENT HOT FAVOURITES

There seems to be two firm favourites for this years “FIFA Goleen Ball” 2010. According to Barcelona based Sports daily “Sport” (couldn’t be any other ) two FC BARCELONA players XAVI HERNANDEZ & ANDRES INIESTA will be “fighting” it out. Apparently, the votes have been already done & shut between the World Press journalists with “France Football” “sources” hinting that Iniesta has the advantage. However, the same daily mentions, that the voting from World Team Captains & National Coaches gives Xavi Hernandez the edge. In any case everyone has until the 30th of November to decide their vote with two decisive matches beforehand: tonight’s Portugal vs. Spain Friendly International & the Spanish League “Classic” between FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid.

Xavi Hernandez & Andres Iniesta

On the 6th of December it is scheduled the announcement of the Top 3 candidates after all the votes have been filtered & counted. The winner will be given his award the 10th of January in Zurich in a star studded ceremony of World Football.

The other candidate being mentioned is Inter Milan & Dutch International Wesley Sneijder, who according to this paper could snatch the 3rd place. Stay tuned!

Who do you think deserves the FIFA-FRANCE FOOTBALL Magazine World Player 2010 ?

FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2010 | XAVI HERNNADEZ VOTED WINNERS BY SPANISH INTERNET READERS

It is still three months away before this years FIFA GOLDEN BALL winner is decided & announced. The Marketing Machine has its motor running with full gas as a string of comments have been made public by Football personalities & media with their opinions on who deserves the prize. Real Madrid Coach José Mourinho gave his opinion that the winner should be Wesley Sneijder, Manchester United Coach Alex Ferguson supports Diego Milito, FC Barcelona player & candidate Xavi supports Lionel Messi while sources inside UEFA & FIFA are said to like Diego Forlan.

Spanish Sporting paper "Marca" didn´t want to miss the predicting party & did an online survey which managed a participation rate of 23.000 readers during the 12 hours that the voting was open. The final results are as seen below:

Who do you think should be this years FIFA Golden Ball winner?

FIFA GOLDEN BALL 2010 | 3 CANDIDATES INIESTA SNEIJDER FORLAN

It is that time of the year when 208 National Team selectors, 208 National Team Captains & 208 World journalists send in their votes for whom they consider deserves to win the 2010 FIFA Golden Ball. As you may already know, France Football with its Golden Ball Award has joined FIFA with its World Player Award to hand in one single trophy.

Those in the “know” - specialist media journalists - comment that there are three clear favourites from which to choose from:

•
Andres Iniesta – Spanish International & FC Barcelona player
•
Wesley Sneijder – Dutch International & Inter Milan player
•
Diego Forlan – Uruguayan International & Atletico de Madrid player

The upcoming European SuperCup could be vital in the case of Sneijder & Forlan, while for Iniesta the upcoming Spanish Team International matches & Champions League qualifying round performances (along with Liga) will be important.

In my humble opinion, if theses three names are in fact the true candidates, I believe ANDRES INIESTA deserves the recognition & the FIFA Golden Ball 2010. However modern Football is more than just acknowledging talent, it’s a business that sells image & magazine covers as well & Iniesta may not be so “media friendly” as Diego Forlan, for example. What is assured is that the Public Relations & Marketing machine of each player will determine who will take the prize. I hope I am wrong & he who wins is judged solely on talent, if not, this prize will lose a bit of gloss , shine & credibility, at least to my eyes.

Good luck to all three. My vote goes to Andres Iniesta. Where does your vote go?
