FORMULA 1 | FERNANDO ALONSO WINS 2011 BRITISH GRAN PRIX

Great day for SPANISH SPORTS with the victory of Spanish two time F1 World Champion FERNANDO ALONSO adding the 2011 British F1 GP title at Silverstone. Long time since the driver got back in the top of the podium as the Spaniard got his first win of the season & finally managed to break the domination of current World Champ Vettel & the Red Bull cars.

Awkward race with all four seasons being experienced at once at the track. It started wet, then humid & finished dry & that made for lots of pits stops & strategy changes. In the 2º pit stop Vettel had some problems getting out of boxes as Alonso passed by after his tyre change & the Spaniard never looked back except for a one on one Hamilton battle that Alonso managed to dominate. There was some great racing between all top four finishers Vettel, Webber & Hamilton ( in that order ) as they attempted to win places with some on edge driving in difficult conditions.

Ferrari has definately bettered the car with new pieces & the huge gap with Red Bull has been pulled back. Although Vettel looks unreachable in the World Championship points table, the Ferrari cars will sure be able to give Vettel - Webber some more tough afternoons in coming races.

SPANISH SPORTS WEEKEND SUCCESS | FOOTBALL, CYCLING, HANDBALL & FORMULA 1

SPANISH SPORTS has experienced a fabulous afternoon today to add to the excellent weekend with victories & podiums in CYCLING, HANDBALL & FORMULA 1. The Spanish Sports flag keeps flying high after FC BARCELONA yesterday won the Champions League title in European Football.

Spanish cyclist ALBERTO CONTADOR has won this years ITALIAN GIRO - his second -  in a comfortable & dominating fashion. The Tour de France holder & currently the World´s Nº1 bike rider stamped his authority in one of the Worlds toughest road race.

FC Barcelona wins the European Handball Cup 2011

Continuing on with Spanish Sports success, FC BARCELONA defeated another Spanish Team CIUDAD REAL 27 - 24 to take the 2011 EUROPEAN HANDBALL TITLE , winning the Final 4 competition held in Germany. FC Barcelona score a double with Euro titles in Football-Soccer & now Handball.

Fernando Alonso 2ºnd in 2011 Monaco F1 GP

Spain flew its flag in the 2011 FORMULA 1 GP podium at Monaco, with Spanish driver & twice F1 World Champ FERNANDO ALONSO coming in front of English driver Button & behind the winner Vettel. This win should lift the confidence of both Alonso & his team Ferrari for the upcoming F1 races ahead.

It has been an extraordinary weekend for Spanish Sports, congratulations to all.

FORMULA 1 SEASON KICKS OFF | ALONSO 4TH - ALGUERSUAR 23RD

The Formula 1 season kicked off in Melbourne Australia with Current World Champion Sebastian Vettel starting as he finished last season; untouchable & winning the Australian GP 2011. Englishman Lewis Hamilton came in second & the surprise was Petrov with his third.

However, although I congratulate the winners, the main concern here for obvious reasons is to describe how our Spanish Sportsmen & Formula 1 drivers – Fernando Alonso & Jaime Alguersuar – faired in the race.


Two time World Champion & Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso finished fourth & nearly managed to overtake third placed Petrov in a stunning last part of the race. The Spaniard admitted in the post race press conference that his main big mistake was at the start where he was 5th & due to “traffic” problems made a “wrong” situation decision that put him behind the “8 ball” for the rest of the race. The Spaniard then managed to maintain his position, get into 4th  & nearly finished on the podium.


The other Spaniard Jaime Alguersuar finished 23rd after he collided with another car at the start that forced him into boxes which made it difficult to gain the lost time & places for points.

FORMULA 1 | FERNANDO ALONSO WINS 2010 ITALIAN GP AT MONZA

Good news from Monza (Italy) the home of Ferrari & for Spanish Sports with the victory of Spanish Formula 1 driver FERNANDO ALONSO in the Italian GP. The Ferrari driver won his third F1 race this season putting in a fantastic performance after Button overtook him early in the start & then retook the lead after a dramatic & perfect pit stop that put Alonso back ahead & onto the victory. Part of the victory must go to the Ferrari team who put in a perfect job with the car, the strategy & the perfect pit stop.

Fernando Alonso also was favoured when Lewis Hamilton abandoned the race, did not finish thus did not gain any points for this race.

Fernando Alonso now gets back into World Championship Title contention with this victory as he is now third placed in the Classifications table & there are still 5 races left to battle for the points.

SPANISH SPORT SUCCESS | CONTADOR IN TOUR E FRANCE ALONSO IN GERMAN F1

Spanish Sport continues with its string of success stories, this time in Cycling & in Formula 1 racing.

Spanish cyclist ALBERTO CONTADOR won his 3rd TOUR DE FRANCE (2010) today ahead of Andy Schleck & Denis Melchov. The Spaniard was emotional as this edition was the most fought especially after nearly “losing” the leaders grip yesterday in the 52 km time-trial that although he won Contador later let known that he experienced dedicated moments during the leg.

The other great Spanish Sports story today was that Spanish Formula One driver FERNANDO ALONSO won the GERMAN F1 GP ahead of Ferrari team-mate Massi with third place to Vettal. However, there was controversy as Felipe Massa allowed Fernando Alonso to pass him when he was leading to give Alonso the race. This off course led to a 100.000 US$ fine & Ferrari will have to wait to see want the World F1 Council has to say & what extra penalty they may place on the “Italian Stallion”.

FORMULA 1 | 2010 | FERNANDO ALONSO 4TH PLACE IN CHINA GP

Spanish Formula 1 Driver FERNANDO ALSONSO has finished 4th in the 2010 CHINA GP in rainy conditions & an accidental race that gave us an authentic dance of changing positions. The other Spaniard who got a place was JAIME ALGUERSUARI who is quickly learning & catching the eye of many, while Spanish veteran driver DE LA ROSA didn´t finish.

Alonso was sanctioned for a starting violation that possibly cost him an achievable podium position (forced to do a “drive-through via pit lane). However, the merit must all go to the winner Button (McLaren) who did an excellent race, along with Hamilton who finished second & took it all to the edge, risking himself with sanctions for pit stop entry violations (some think he escaped again from them thanks to favouritism) , & third placed Rosberg.
The F1 World Championship calssification table current looks this way:

1. Button 60 pts
2. Rosberg 50pts
3. Alonso 49 pts
4. Hamilton 49pts

Just to finish off, once again we saw subtle signs of the uneasy relationship between Ferrari team-mates Alonso & Massi. As written here weeks back, their is a tense “calm” awaiting to explode, as both are under strict orders from Ferrari not to illustrate to the “open World” any conflict. However,several pit lane manouvers today makes one think how long this “artificial” relationship will last before it explodes.

FORMULA 1: FERNANDO ALONSO FELIPE MASSA - A "HAPPY" TEAM-MATE RELATION FULL OF "INCIDENTS"

Theses two "happy" team-mates are NOT friends. Spanish two time F1 World Champion FERNANDO ALONSO & Brazilian Sub-World Champion FELIPE MASSA have been joined together by “destiny” to represent the famous colours of Italian racing car legend FERRARI. As professionals, & under strict orders from their Italian employers, they are “forbidden” to voice &/or express any divergent disagreement in public. The powerful Ferrari Public Relations team is in charge to give us all the image that they are happy mates at the team & only super competitive on the track – "competition is healthy" is the saying.

But don’t be fooled. Both have their egos the size of the “Empire State Building” & both wish to be World Champions; the Brazilian was a “hairs breath” away in season 2008 were he privately still blames Renault, & indirectly Alonso as a co-conspirator, for losing the F1 World Title in the 2008 Singapore F1 “Pique Incident” which starved Massi out of points that would cost him dearly. But the Massa – Alonso clashes (or Alonso – Massa) come from way back. In 2007 in another “incident”, both accused each other of dangerous driving & attempting to take out the other off the track in the Europa F1 race. The verbal attacks straight after the race were televised & very public.

What raised eye-brows of an a persistent ingrained suspicion from the Brazilian was the public comments that Massa made straight after it was made official that he would be sharing team with Alonso, again recalling the “Singapore” incident & Alonsos involvement, which he later “rectified” by order of Ferrari.

Yesterday in the Malaysian F1 race, we again witnessed “vibrations” that both don’t share a beer in their time off when Massa manoeuvred, or protected his advantage, while Alonso climbed the classification standings lap after lap before the Spaniard blew out his engine. This unfortunate “incident” should have given Massa a smile as Alonso did not score any points, & thus facilitated that the Brazilian became the provisional leader of the World Championship table after only three races. The Ferrari Public Relations team flooded the press with great pictures of hugs & ...“bad luck mate” next time.

How long will the peace all last? Both are extreme professionals who know perfectly well the “brand” they represent, & that they are the public image of Ferrari throughout the World. Both will follow orders, but the season is long & many strange things happen throughout its course. Now that things are relatively on course with team objectives everything is fine, but if Ferrari cannot solve their apparent motor anomalies? If Alonso doesn’t win races as expected or Massa doesn’t get podiums? He they - God forbid - get involved in a "racing incident"? Plenty of work for the Ferrari Public Relations team I would suspect, they may be hoping that they won’t have to do long & difficult extra-hours. Tweet

FORMULA 1: FERNANDO ALONSO WINS 2010 BAHRAIN GP

Spanish Sports got off to a flying start in the motor category with a win in the first race of the new 2010 season of FORMULA 1. Two times F1 World Champion & Spaniard FERNANDO ALONSO won the Bahrain GP raced this afternoon ahead of team-mate Brazilian Felipe Massa & British driver Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard has always said that given the a competitive car & team he would ensure titles & it looks as if this prediction has got off on the right direction. Alonso’s strategy was to ensure flawless driving with lots of patience that concentrated on steady & continuous lap times that maintained the pace & pressure on his rivals.

The main race “tussle” was upfront between Vettel & Alosno with the former experiencing engine/car problems towards the end of the race to which Alonso found this the moment to move from "stalking" mode to attacking & overtook Vettel for the lead. This of course, made Massa & Hamilton react as they fought out the minor places.

FORMULA 1: ALONSO 3ºRD IN SINGAPORE GP

Two time Spanish F1 World Champion FERNANDO ALONSO had
not reached a podium since Brasil 2008, & today he managed to
finish 3ºrd in the SINGAPORE GP.















Although Alonso started from 5th on the grid, his persistant & steady
driving saw how others made mistakes & were penalized; Rosberg &
Vettel, who gave the Spaniard the 3ºrd & final place.















The winner was Hamilton followed by Glock who was second,
& third for Alonso must have felt like glory. The Spaniard dedicated

FORMULA 1: FERNANDO ALONSO 7TH AT MONACO 2009

Monaco is the type of circuit that Spanish two time World Formula 1
Champion FERNANDO ALONSO likes & wins. But not today, as the
Spaniard did a "flawless" drive but his R29 could only smell the fumes
from the faster cars. The best that the Spaniard could do today at
Monaco was a 7th place.

It was precisely one of the fastest cars & better drivers JENSON
BUTTON ( Braun GP team) who won today in an awesome
performance, that gives him 5 wins from the last 6 races & takes
him closer to this years F1 World Championship title.

FORMULA 1 BAHRAIN 2009: FERNANDO ALONSO 8TH

Spanish two time World Formula 1 Champion FERNANDO ALONSO
finished in 8th position today in the Bahrain F1 race. Alonso´s team
have´nt as yet increased the speed relative to their competitors who
are well ahead in the horsepower area, not to mention the
aerodynamics.

Race winner was J.BUTTON, followed by Vettel & Trulli

FORMULA 1: CHINA GP - FERNANDO ALONSO 9TH

No, this is not FERNANDO ALONSO, its S.VETTEL who won todays
FORMULA 1 CHINA GP, with 2º place going to his Red Bull team-mate
M.WEBBER to give their team a historical double.

It was a rain trenched race that gave headaches to all drivers & one of
those was 2 time World Champion & Spaniard Fernando Alonso who had

a horror race. The Spaniard started from 2ºposition to fall to 20th after

he made a pit stop coinciding with the safety car, pure bad luck. In his

attempt to win places he managed to get to 8th when he lost control under

strong rain to fall 5 places behind again. In the end Alonso finsihed 9th &
did not get into the points.

Final results: 1 Vettel; 2. Webber; 3. J.Button

World Championship points: 1. Button 21pts; 2. Barrichello 15pts &
3. Vettel 10 pts ... 8. Fernando Alonso 4 pts.

FORMULA 1 MALAYSIAN GP 2009: RACE SUSPEND & ALONSO 11TH

The Malaysian F1 GP race was suspended due to torrential tropical storms
that made driving impossible & dangerous. With 24 laps still left the skies
opened up on the Sapang circuit & stopped the race with Spanish Driver
FERNANDO ALONSO skidding out at that precise moment with slicks on
to go back onto the track & be halted in at 11th place. It was pure bad luck
for Fernando as he made a brilliant start from 9th place to get into the 3ºrd
position to see the water take him backwards.

With less than 75% of the laps done & the race suspended, the pilots take half
points & the position from were they were called in. That gave this final result:
1. Jensen Button
2. Nick Heidfeld
3. Timo Glock

& 11. Fernando Alonso

Overall Drivers Classification (after 2 races):
1. Button 15 pts 2. Barrichello 10pts 3.Trulli 8pts …6. Fernando Alonso 4pts

Crazy race & in some sense not understandable, as the race time 17.00 is well
known to be the precise moment of the day that storms habitually take place
in Malaysia. The pressure from International TVs (European in most cases) to
accommodate better watching hours has played a negative part in the outcome,
an issue that needs to be further analyzed & studied in the future.

FORMULA 1 2009: ALONSO FINISHES 6TH IN MELBOURNE

The Formula 1 season kicked off in Melbourne AUSTRALIA (see the photo of
the 2009 drivers above), the result & the message of the race were that there
is a “new sheriff” in town, the F1 town. The Ross Brawn team (the phoenix that
rises from the Honda ashes) has a technological advantage (KERS?) that has
literally left the rest of the F1 teams smelling their fumes. Lastly, speaking of
teams, Toyota will be giving a serious fight as they too have done their
homework.

The Brawn team got off to a dream start doing the “double”; finishing first
& second, that is, Jenson Button & Ruben Barrichello. The rest memorized the
backend of the controversial Brawn cars, they where Hamilton (McLaren) who
finished third & put in a superb Champions race - quiet incredible, & T.Glock

who ended fourth place.

Spanish two times World Champ FERNANDO ALONSO pulled out of 10th
place on pole, survived a near crash in the first lap & made good work to
eventually finish in 5th place. The Renault team has some work to do still as the
good times in the off season practice was encouraging but not “real”.

FORMULA 1 JAPAN GP 2008: ALONSO WINS

SFS has had little to say this year in the Formula One area, since
FERNANDO ALONSO has had a terrible Renault car & a bad year
up till now. He won in Singapur - under lights - & now he returns to
win today in the Japanese GP. It seems his team has finally managed
to get the Renault automobile in shape late in the season & Alonso
his form as well.

Great news for the Spaniard as he has been thinking about his future
for next season. Everything points that he will continue in Renault
another year, awaiting the call of Ferrari that is his real objective.

FORMULA 1: FERNANDO ALONSO 6TH IN TURKEY

Brazilian driver FELIPE MASSA turned in a great race to win
todays TURKISH Formula 1. Behind him were Lewis Hamilton
& Ferrari team mate & current World Champion Raikkonen.

The race had its share of moments, like the smash up between
Fisichella & Nakajima at the beginning of the race.

Spaniard FERNANDO ALONSO finished 6ºth & commented that
he was happy with the result seeing improvements in his R28
Renault. The 2º time World Champion is now 9ºth in the drivers
Championship points table with 9ºpoints.

FORMULA 1: FERRARI DOMINANT IN SPANISH GRAN PRIX

Spain was hoping for its two time World Champion FERNANDO
ALONSO to get on the podium today, after starting from 2º
position on the grid. The apparent new adjustments to the Renault
R28 had lead to suspect that it was much better & faster than in
previous races.

However, on the 34th lap, Alonso´s car blew its engine & he had to
abandon the race.












The other story was the spectacular crash by McClaren diver
HEIKKI KOVALAINAN (see below) who smashed into the
protective barrier after blowing a tyre.

The winner was the current World Champ KIMI RAIKKONEN
(as seen below) followed by team mate MASSI & third place went to
LEWIS HAMILTON. Ferrari are ahead of the rest & dominated
today´s race.

FORMULA 1 BAHRAIN 2008: FERNANDO ALONSO 10TH

Spanish two time World Champion FERNANDO ALONSO finished
10th place in todays BAHRAIN F1 GP race, therefore not scoring
any points for the World Championship table.
















The winner was FELIPE MASSA with teamate Raikkonen second
& Kubica third, in a gran race for the Brazilian & Ferrari. Its obvious
that Fernando Alonso´s Renault is not competitive & needs lots of
work if he is to get to podium this year.

Another contender Lewis Hamilton is not having a great start either
he finished 13th after crashing into the back of Fernando Alonso, to
slide out & then get back into the race: see video

FORMULA 1 2008. FERNANDO ALONSO 4TH IN AUSTRALIAN GP

The new FORMULA 1 GP season kicked off in Melbourne Australia
with victory going to Lewis Hamilton, followed by Heildfeld & 3ºrd
place to Rosberg. It was an accidental race with plenty of crashes &
motor breaks that left it all down to 7 cars, with both Ferrari´s going
out & not finishing.













The great news was the 4th place for Spanish two time World
Champion FERNANDO ALONSO (above), that must have felt
like a victory after starting from 11th place. The Spaniard grabbed
5ºpoints & sets up an optimistic future as he & his car can only get
better. Great driving.

FORMULA 1: LEWIS HAMILTON, RACISM & BARCELONA

Months back SFS denounced the terrible behaviour of Scottish Football
fans in Barcelona while following Rangers, now SFS denounces the poor
taste & terrible behaviour of Spanish fans this weekend at the Formula 1
circuit while Englishman Lewis Hamiliton was training with his team.

What´s wrong with all these morons, these Spaniards may not like the
comments & childish behaviour of Lewis Hamilton, but that does not
justify the need to shout or display racist comments. What the hell has all
this got to do with sport? It only shows an underlining lack of intelligence
& a horrible hate that gets mixed up with nationalist sentiment that ruins
the local image of Barcelona & of Spain.

The only arena were “dog-fights” take place are on the circuit where
the spectators only right is to witness the “battle” between these motor
gladiators & experience the joy of the sport. This unconditional love
for Fernando Alonso from the part of these delirious Spanish fans, is
not reciprocal, Alonso will not go & visit you if you’re sick in your bed
to tuck you in. In fact, he does not give a damn really as his objectives
& interest is to race, attempt to win, gain titles & maximize his income
to retire young. So why did these Spanish fans excite themselves
into this type of frenzy of false delusion in supporting their idol in such an
embarrassing manner? Perhaps their life is empty & lacking any real
substance.

Lewis Hamilton & his team don’t help put out the fire with statements
that are out of order & against Alonso, the FIA do not assist with threats
after they have signed a multi million deal for this season to give Spain
a 3ºrd race in Valencia (they must be kidding!), the English authorities
add wood to the fire waving the flag as if this is the 19th century & the
British press race in with …” is this a personal fight or can anyone join
in”. A bit of common sense from all please. The Spanish authorities have
withdrawn the images, restricted the entry of these mindless fans & have

said in public that it is not appropriate behaviour from this minority &
will no longer permit it again. It is agreed by all that they are scum.

To end, just a few words to calm the waters, racism is unfortunately a
human mental disease that is everywhere & that includes England as well
as Spain. The actions of a minority however disgustingly “colourful” &
news worthy as it maybe, does not represent the vast majority of the
“normal” Spanish folk who enjoy the sport. It may be in the interest
of all, that Fernando Alonso come out & say in public that he is against
this type of behaviour & does not wish to be supported in this way, &

that the only battle, if you can say it that way, will be on the circuit &
this is not personal but purely professional

Lets hope Alonso does, but it does not look like for now, which is in itself
also sad.
