Last year the Spanish Government, via a ministerial order,
communicated to all Spanish Sports Federations that if they did
not qualify their national teams for the Pekin Olympic Games, that
they must hold internal elections before this August. In this case, it affects
directly the Spanish Football Federation ( RFEF) as Spanish failed
to qualify for Pekin.
This is understandable from the Governments point of view, as a
provider of public money, someone must be made responsable for the
failure in performance. The Spanish Federation case is particular, &
you´ll now see why.
(Joseph Blatter - FIFA President)
The Spanish Football Federation has had the same President, Villar,
for more than 20 years, a sort of "Football Dictator" that has seen
throughtout his reign continous failures from the A-level national side.
To keep his rule, President Villar has turned to FIFA & his mate FIFA
President Joseph Blatter ( who he helped put into the post ) to give him
a hand against the government.
FIFA sees the Spanish Government order as "interferring" in its matters,
as FIFA is the sole governing body in all World Football matters & has
threathened to ELIMINATE SPAIN from the EURO 2008 competition
if the Spanish Government forces elections in the Spanish Football
Federation.
Why so serious? (A) FIFA does not wish to see its authority undermined
from any Government in its area: Football. (B) Joseph Blatter is
protecting a pawn that helped put him in power & will help keep him there,
current President Villar will surely lose his spot if elections are held.
So delicate is this situation that FIFA needs to show its teeth, as it has
similiar problems with Greece & Portugal, & to lose this arm wrestle will
open FIFA up to numerous legal battles Worldwide causing precedents it
wishes to avoid. FIFA is more that just a Governing body, its a power &
money generator that has Worldwide interests to protect.
Seen from a non-Football point off view, who is FIFA to interfer in a
Nations laws & decisions that its Government ( voted democratically by
its people) decides to implement. Many legal experts see FIFA´s threats
as having NO LEGAL BASIS, however, FIFA is playing its card: it may
lose the legal battle , but Spain will be banned from the upcoming Euro
2008 competition while the fight takes place in the courts. That could be
a longtime & cause lots of damage to Spanish Football.
Lets hope common sense prevails. Stay tuned!
