La Liga Spanish Football

A suffered victory for Atletico de Madrid winning 1 - 0 Real Sporting de Gijon. It was the night of the goalkeepers with both Oblak for Atletico & Cueller for Sporting pulling off some incredible saves, & I mean incredible.

Sporting de Gijon lost two important players in the first half due to injury, but put in an excellent match, exhibiting courage, will & showed a solid defence. The frustration grew for Atletico de Madrid as they watched how all their attempts to score failed.

In extra-time, around the 47th min a desperate kick forward found the head of Atletico defender Godin who flicked on to find Antoine Griezmann who headed in the winner. Devastating for Gijon, match saver for Atletico.

Spanish Football Liga

Sevilla FC 3 - Real Madrid 2, the surprise result of the Round.  An uninspiring Real Madrid went from good to worst as the match went on. Lacking in ideas their star players could not break through, while Cristiano Ronaldo was non-existent. This loss will be felt as the "clasico" (vs FC Barcelona) is around the corner, with Barça already Liga leaders on their own.

Sevilla FC started slow but raised as the game continued, with a spectacular Konoplyanka along with their goalie Rico. Their three goals came in this order
  • Immobile 35th min
  • Benega 60th min
  • Fernando Llorente 73rd min
The first goal for Real Madrid, when they were playing best, came from defender Sergio Ramos in the 21st min with an overhead shot which further injured his already troubled shoulder. He was substituted for Varane 5 mins later. The second goal for Real Madrid came from an individual play from substitute James Rodriguez in the 92nd min.

Huge victory & moral boost for Sevilla FC. Deserved!
