La Liga kicked off with the Friday night game between Elche & Valencia CF. The game went the way of the visitors comfortably winning 0 - 4. The goals fell in the following order:
- Gomes 43rd min, 0 - 1
- Paco Alcacer 56th min, 0 - 2
- Roco (own goal) 70th min, 0 - 3
- Otamendi 91st min, 0 - 4
Elche hoover dangerously close to the relegation zone of the Liga ladder, while Valencia has its own particular battle with At. Madrid for the Champions League 3rd place position.
Atletico de Madrid hosted fellow city Club Getafe knowing beforehand that a win was necessary to keep in touch with currently third placed on the classification table Valencia CF. The home side managed the 3 points maintaining the gap with Valencia to just a point. The final result was 2 - 0 for Atletico with goals from Fernando Torres in the 2nd min & Tiago in the 43rd min.
Comfortable match with Atletico forward Raul Jimenez given a start & playing well, along with good performances from Koke, Gimenez & Olbak. Torres scored his first Liga goal this season & 7 years after leaving Atletico for Liverpool FC. A special day for the forward.
Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano won 1 - 0 Malaga with the goal from Kakuta in the 21st min. Good first half by Rayo, but they suffered in the second half as Malaga picked up the pace to find the equalizer. However, Rayo goalie Cristian put in an excellent effort to conserve his teams goal & get the 3 points.
Levante lost to Celta de Vigo 0 - 1 with a late goal from Carles in the 87th min. Celta had missed various clear goal ocassions all game with Levante putting up a defensive wall. However Celta managed to break through & take the 3 points.
Athletic Club Bilbao continue with their fine form defeating Almeria 2 - 1. The two goals for Bilbao came through Etxeita in the 9th min & Mikel Rico in the 27th min. For Almeria their goal came through an own goal by Balenziaga in the 46th min.
Granada hosted Eibar to play out a 0 - 0 draw after 90 mins.
