AT MADRID 1 REAL MADRID 0 | ATLETICO WINS SPANISH SUPER CUP 2 -1 ON AGGREGATE

The winner of the first official title of the new Spanish Football season, the "Spanish Super Cup", goes to Atletico de Madrid after they defeated 1 - 0 Real Madrid in the 2ยบ leg match & claim the title 2-1 on aggregate.

Spanish Super Cup 2014 Final Goal

The early 2 min goal by Mario Mandzukic was enough after catching Real Madrid "sleeping" in defence when Griezmann back headed to find the Croatian who kicked the ball passed Casillas.

A deserved win for Atletico de Madrid which was the better team tonight with more intensity shown, more ambition & hunger. Atletico de Madrid had more goal chances, including hitting the bar, which could have opened further the final result.

Real Madrid started without Cristiano Ronaldo - came on the the second half - & gave Coentrao & Varane a start for the first minute. However, a second half decision to substitute Toni Kroos for Cristiano Ronaldo may have been an error as it gave Atletico de Madrid the midfield all the second half. Plus, Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti again surprised some observers substituting James Rodriguez for Isco, when the former was doing very well for his team & was creating the danger.

Real Madrid ended up with 10 men late in the match when Modric received his second yellow & Atletico de Madrid with their Coach Simeone after a red card (1st half). A game with lots of yellow (red) cards as the match was very intense, heated, passionate
& physical by both sides. The MVP - my opinion - was Atletico de Madrid Raul Garcia who was omnipresent & had two big chances to score as well. Spanish National Team Coach Vicent Del Bosque was watching tonights game & Raul Garcia put in a performance tonight of make him a firm candidate for a call up with the International Friendly game against France in two weeks.

Worthy mention as well to Real Madrid defender Carvajal who was outstanding & also put in his candidacy for a International call-up. Along with Karim Benzema who played well doing more for his team without being seen to do so.

Congratulations to Atletico de Madrid.
