The wait has been long, & perhaps with hindsight over exaggerated. The very latest was that Xabi Alonso would leave due to "personal reasons", however in the last days "alternative" commentators suggested a financial motive was also in play. Seems the financial obstacle was "higher" than the "personal" & it has been jumped.
Whatever the real reason, Xabi Alonso has been offered a 2 year extension to his contract with an option to a 3rd season. Also his yearly salary of 4M€ jumps now to 6M€ which is not too bad at all.
The other European Football Club pretenders were Italian Club Juventus & some English Premier League Clubs with Chelsea FC in the forefront. One can say that this is a "true" Winter Market signing by Real Madrid which secures one of the Best Midfielders in World Football & a player many agree is currently irreplaceable in the current World Soccer scene.
