Friday night kicked off Round 17 of Liga with a match that saw Elche lose 0 - 1 to Malaga FC. The winner came early from Malaga midfielder Camacho in the 6th min. Elche dominated the ball but was ineffective. The loss of their player Damian to a red card with 20th min left of play cancelled out any attempt of Elche to equalize & draw. Malaga held out & grabbed the three points & much needed oxygen to relieve accumulated pressure on Coach Schuster & the Club.
Real Betis lost 0 - 1 this afternoon to Almeria & sits last with severe problems at both Club & fan level. The Almeria winner came early with a 4th min goal from Azeez. From here until the end of the match Betis was unlucky not to equalize for the team tried but luck was not on their side at all. The Betis team remained at the center of the ground after whistle time to absorb the "bad feeling" of their home fans with some players emotionally affected. Tough times at Betis.
Villarreal lost 1 - 2 to Sevilla FC with Sevilla midfielder Rakitic "on fire" & involved directly in his teams two goals. Cala put Sevilla ahead in the 24th min & Bacca got the second in the 77th min. Villarreal managed a goal late in the 88th min when Perbet converted a penalty. Villarreal Coach Marcelino was sent off & was critical post-match with the referee & some of his decisions.
Atletico de Madrid had to work hard for their 3 - 2 victory over Levante with Atletico Diego Costa again proving to be decisive. Atletico de Madrid go to sleep tonight as Liga leaders while we all wait the outcome of the Getafe - FC Barcelona game tomorrow.
Levante caught Atletico sleeping & Ivanschitz scored in the 1st min. Atletico de Madrid quickly reacted & began controlling things with Godin equalizing in the 30th min. Atletico de Madrid went ahead in the 47th min with a Diego Costa goal but Levante managed to equalize with a brilliant Pedro Rios goal in the 56th min. Tense moments & Football for Atletico as Levante was standing firm but Diego Costa came to the rescue with his 77th min goal - penalty. Its the 19th goal for Diego Costa in Liga which is extraordinary.
Real Sociedad is in a nice Football streak - or groove - at the moment winning in convincing manner away 1 - 3 Granada. The Real Sociedad duo upfront was decisive, Carlos Vela in combination with his "partner in crime" Griezmann scored two goals - 28th & 64th min - while the latter got his goal in the 41st min. But the magical moment, at least the most esthetic, came with the Granada goal from Piti the was a 40m missile that smashed the net. Impressive but not enough for Granada.
