Spanish Football does not stop. Liga terminated its Round 11 yesterday & tonight Round 12 kicked off with a city of Barcelona derby. The always intense & fierce FC Barcelona - RCD Espanyol finished after 90 mins in a 1 - 0 victory for Barça.
FC Barcelona did not play their usual efficient & dominating game that we have been spoiled with these last seasons. Apart the opponent finds extra motivation & strength in the City "derby" as they attempt to get out of the long shadow of their neighbours. Espanyol placed themselves solidly in defence & made things uneasy & frustrating for Barça. Said this, the superior individual skills of the Barcelona players shined & was in the end enough to pull them through.
Barcelona created many chances, from a Alves post in the 45th min to a Neymar post shaver in the 63rd, just mention a couple of the most memorable moments. Espanyol defended well but was "handcuffed" in attack.
It needed a piece of Neymar magic to find Alexis who scored the Barça goal & eventual winner in the 68th min. It was enough. Espanyol reacted, but late & was not able to better their effectiveness upfront.
Lionel Messi continues without scoring, but Neymar is taking on the responsibility of serving his team-mate forwards & breaking the stalemate situations. Another three points in the bag for Barça who are not palying well but are 100% effective.
More Round 12 Spanish Liga games tomorrow.
