REAL MADRID | XABI ALONSO REPLACEMENT CANDIDATES

It´s known that Real Madrid Spanish International midfielder Xabi Alonso ends contract in 2014 & that he hasn't renewed his contract. According to Spanish Sports daily "Marca" one of the reasons is that the "rumour" of a possible arrival of ex-Liverpool Coach Rafael Benitez was not to his liking. The Club in their sincere endeavour to want to renew Xabi Alonso for at least another 2 years has said that Benitez will not arrive & has began to attempt to convince the midfielder in staying.

While the Spanish Football Club attempts to change the mind of Alonso, the Club has to "cover its back" & find a substitute. This has become a top priority at Real Madrid with the added difficulty that there is no one in World Football with the specific characteristics of Xabi Alonso. The player is currently the central piece of the Real Madrid squad & the though of his possible departure is worrying the technical staff.

Said this, there are players of similar profiles, few as they are, they could mould into the team scheme, but the choice will have to be well studied & well chosen. Real Madrid is combing the Globe & has the following names & candidates down:

• Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund)
• Rubén Pardo (Real Sociedad)
• Kondogbia (sevilla FC)
• Verratti (PSG)
• Javi García (Manchester City)
• Fernando (Gremio)

All top players in their Clubs but unknowns if they could fill the difficult space of a possible Xabi Alonso exit. Added to this, the Clubs that currently have the above players on their pay-roll know the Real Madrid urgent need & will take advantage to ask for high prices ( a high transfer figure ).

Stay tuned. Xabi Alonso may change his mind, or Real Madrid will announce a possible new incorporation to cover the Alonso departure this summer.
