Spanish Sports daily based in the city of Barcelona "Mundo Deportivo" asks today the question: "What happens if Messi doesn't score goals? Who will?
According to the above source, theses are questions that the FC Barcelona technical team & Directives asked themselves flying back from Paris after drawing 2 - 2 in the 1ºst leg quarter-final of Champions League against Paris St Germain & with Messi injured.
Some think that the lack of a true striker, a pure Nº9 is & can be a problem for Barça & the cited paper claims that FC Barcelona is seriously meditating the signing of a centre forward for next season.
The Sports paper puts up a list of four possible targets:
Rooney:
Wayne Rooney is an admirer of Barça. He has never hidden his admiration for Messi, but who he really has on a pedestal is Andrés Iniesta. At the moment, Rooney sounds for PSG, but who knows.
Suarez:
Luis Suarez is having a bad time at Liverpool. He arrived in 2011 to make the jump after winning with Ajax but the player is not gaining the major titles he craves. May wish a move from Liverpool & England
Lewandowski:
Lewandowski is the Nº 9 of Borussia Dortmund and one of the revelations of European Football. At 24 years, he has exploded with goals. Great header, combines well with his peers in the attack. Contract Expires in 2014 but it is said that Bayern has him 'tied'. TBC.
Gomez:
Mario Gomez (27 years) yesterday scored a hat trick in the German Cup match against Wolfsburg. German "tank " (1.89 m.), has been relegated this season by Mandzukic. His limited role puts Gomez on the market.
Other names to keep in mind although not mentioned & currently associated with Real Madrid:
- Sergio Aguero ( Manchester City ) . Always an option, & some say has offered himself to Barça.
- Cavani ( Napoles ). Closely tied to Real Madrid, but nothing confirmed.
Stay tuned.
