Two sides of the Spanish Football coin for Clubs with EUROPA LEAGUE duties tonight. LEVANTE put in a grand performance while ATLETICO DE MADRID was very unlucky in front of goal. Here are the final results & goal scorers.
LEVANTE defeated Greek Club OLYMPIAKOS 3 - 0. The Greek side was directed by ex-Sevilla Coach Michel & suffered a severe reverse that puts his team against the wall.
Levante played very well & deserved their reward. RIOS put the Spanish Club ahead in the 10th min & BAKERO put in the second in the 40th min. Levante continued with their dominance & MARTINS put in the third in the 56th min.
Levante take a firm advantage to Athens for the 2ยบ leg & nearly has the tie in the bag.
The other side of the coin is ATLETICO DE MADRID which suffered their first defeat at home this season against RUBIN KAZAN losing 0 - 2. The defeat puts the current Europa League Champs against the ropes & will need a minor miracle to turn the tie around back in Russia.
Rubin Kazan played well & did their job correctly. They managed to surprise the locals when Rondon shot at goal & the ball bounced off Atletico goalie Asenjo to see KARADENIZ push it in for a goal in the 6th min. From here Atletico looked for the equalizer & was favoured in the 44 th min when the Russians went down to 10 men with a red card to Sharonov.
The second half cannot be explained by an Atletico fan as the Spanish team dominated totally but failed to convert many chances. The bar was hit , the Kazan goalie stopped it all & Atletico missed some "sitters". Wave after wave of attacks Atletico ran into the Rubin Kazan defence or just terribly missed goal opportunities.
In the last moment, a corner to Atletico encouraged the Spanish goalie Asenjo in trying his chance. But a clearance found a Russian player that caught all of Atletico in the goal square & ORBAIZ got the second with the Atletico goalie sadly caught-off guard & running behind.
The last moments initiative was severely punished & the second away goal to the Russians puts Atletico in a very difficult position for the return leg.
