AC COIMBRA ended the magnificent 16 straight European victories of ATLETICO DE MADRID after winning 2 - 0. Coimbra deserved their win as they played much better than the Spaniards. W. EDUARDO scored both goals for the Portuguese, the first in the 28th min & 69th min via a penalty.
Atletico left out most of their big names & played little to create chances. Atletico simply played badly & won.
ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO practically said goodbye to the Europa League competition after losing 2 - 3 to O. LYON. After a shocking 1ยบ half for Bilbao with two goals scored by the French team thanks to GOMIS in the 22nd & GOURCUFF in the 45th min, Bilbao attempted a brave comeback.
The second half saw an reinvigorated Bilbao which scored in the 48th min via ANDER HERRERA & ADURIZ in the 54 th min via a penalty to equalize. Maximum tension as Bilbao went after the heroic win, which received a cold shower when LACAZETTE scored for Lyon the winner in the 62nd min. Bilbao may claim they were unlucky but it ended in a French win!
LEVANTE visited Dutch territory to play TWENTE & left with a 0 - 0 result. Good for the Spaniards which maintain second spot on their Group table & opens up the possibilities of moving ahead. A draw with a victory flavour.
