Real Madrid gave Benzema, Xabi Alonso, Ozil a rest & started with Varane, Altintop, Sahin & Granero. The first half was all Real Madrid, an offensive riot that surprisingly only produced two goals. The first CRISTIANO RONALDO in the 25th min from a Marcelo pass & the second a brilliantly curled KAKA outside the box shoot in the 36th min.

The second half saw Mourinho give Marcelo rest & the change took some punch out of the Real Madrid attack. This & the fact that Real Madrid relaxed & took the foot off the accelerator gave Apoel more of the ball. As expected under these circumstances the visitors scored in the 66th min via MADUCA & lifted his team.

Just when Apoel looked "dangerous" CRISTIANO RONALDO got a free - kick a slammed the ball into the net around the 76th min. Real Madrid awakened & Di Maria ( brought on for Granero ) passed to find CALLEJON who scored the fourth in the 80th min.
However, Apoel are a spirited outfit & continued attacking & was rewarded with a penalty from an Altintop foul. SOLARI converted the penalty into goal in the 83rd min for Apoel. But Real Madrid reacted again & DI MARIA chipped over the goalkeeper for a beautify executed fifth goal for Real Madrid.
Anecdote of the night was that Apoel defender PAULO JORGE lost two (three) teeth when he clash with his team-mate. Costly night for the man.
