ESPANYOL 2 ATHLETIC DE BILBAO 1 | LA LIGA ROUND 34 MONDAY NIGHT GAME RESULT

The last match for Round 34 of the SPANISH LEAGUE was celebrated tonight with RCD ESPANYOL defeating ATHLETIC DE BILBAO  2 - 1 in an entertaining match between two good teams that changed constantly in their domination of play.

Very even start to the game with its doses of physical play, until OSVALDO put ahead Espanyol in the 33rd min. Then Bilbao player SUSAETA put in a magnificent free-kick goal to equalize in the 42nd min. Espanyol claimed a penalty that wasn´t called & that put them off their play for a period.

Athletic surprised somewhat in their defensive mentality,  & possibly paid for it by handing the initiative over to Espanyol in the second half of the game. As strange as that sounds Bilbao was relatively comfortable, when Espanyol via Osvaldo put in a back "death" pass that found team-mate IVAN ALONSO in the 75th min that put them ahead. Espanyol maintained that advantage until the end & grabbed the three points.

The loss by Bilbao gives the Europa League classification position ( 6th place) over to Atletico de Madrid . A real battle between both assured in coming weeks, along with Sevilla.
