Navas & Silva celebrate the latters goal |
SPAIN started with the following 11:
Casillas,Ramos, Pique,Albiol,Capdevila,Busquets,Xabi,Xavi,Iniesta,Pedro & Villa
and finshed the match with these 11:
Casillas,Ramos,Pique,Albiol,Arbeloa,Busquets,Cazorla,Silva,Navas,Llorente & Torres
Spanish Coach Del Bosque put on all his available fire power up front towards the end of the second half to attempt to open the Colombian can & grab the victory. It finally worked in the 85th min when Jesus Navas passed into the box to find DAVID SILVA who flicked it into the net.

David Villa hits posts & misses second opportunity |
The first half was dominanted by Spain who held the ball & did their typical patented 1-2-3 Football. They were unlucky as DAVID VILLA hit the post & then missed with the rebound. Colombia did a great job keeping out the Spanish attacks the 45 mins & even had their chances in counter-attacks that they did not convert.

Andres Iniesta Spain´s Best Player |
ANDRES INIESTA was magical tonight until taken off & was applauded by the Madrid crowd as he was a constant danger throughout the match with some graceful plays & pin-point passing.

Torres held back by a solid Colombian defence |
The second half was mostly all COLOMBIA who took over proceedings, especially after Coach Del Bosque did some changes that unbalanced the Spanish Team initially & gave Colombia spaces. The visitors could have scored a few times but Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas did his work & some smart Spanish defending kept them out; plus the Colombian finishing left a bit to be desired. Spain was increasingly frustrated & impatient with Colombia playing & adopting a physically hard attitude & things were beginning to look grey & dim for the World Champions.
As said earlier, full points for Spanish Coach Del Bosque who risked & changed the team towards a more offensive profile & it paid off late in the match with the Silva winner.
Some may claim that the just result would have been a draw & the Colombians fans may even claim that they deserved the victory. I personally feel a drew may have been just but give merit & prize Spain for their "never say never" attitude that eventually pulled them through & onto victory. Said this, Colombia failed occasions that makes you wonder if they really deserved the victory or even a draw.
