FC BARCELONA lost 0-2 at home to HERCULES of Alicante to give the shock result of the Round. Barça´s afternoon was like the image above of defender Pique; rough & tough were the result could have been greater in Hercules favour. Basically, Barça failed to take their chances & Hercules punished severely the Barça midfield & defensive errors.
The man of the afternoon was newly signed Paraguay International VALDEZ (above) who scored Hercules two goals in the 26th & 59th min.
As Barça Coach Guardiola said post - match: ... we have to think that this ( The Spanish League ) is´nt going to be easy.
Arch rivals REAL MADRID introduced themselves to their fans in the "Santiago Bernabeu Stadium" against OSASUNA with the chance to open a 1ºpoint gap on Barça. The new signings Ozil & Khedira started & both put in a good performance especially Ozil who got a big applause from the Madrid crowd. As Barça Coach Guardiola said post - match: ... we have to think that this ( The Spanish League ) is´nt going to be easy.
The first half was boring & Madrid did not look at all the team that most wish them to be this season as they lacked attacking flare. In fact, Gonzalo Higuaín missed some clear opportunities & continued to do so later, & was given "whistles" from the crowd when substituted in the 2ºhalf as a crowd reminder of his missed chances.
The good news is that the Real Madrid defence looks much more solid from last year & Pepe who came back from injury played well along with Ramos, Carvalho & Marcelo. The only & winning goal came from defender CARVALHO in the 48th min from a goalkeeping stop that found the path of the defender in the square to which he riffled.
From this point until the end of the game, Real Madrid maintained control of the match to secure the 1-0 victory & the 3ºpoints. In conclusion, not a brilliant match for Real Madrid, far away from expectations but effective.
RACING DE SANTANDER lost to visiting VALENCIA CF 0-1 from a 46th min header from MADURO (image above). An intense game with end to end stuff that finished going to the visitors who have always had a difficult time at Racing & have managed to finally end the lossing streak at this particular ground.
ATHLETIC DE BILBAO lost 1-2 to ATLETICO DE MADRID who remain Spanish League leaders. The game had some scary moments for the visitors towards the end when Bilbao equalized via FERNANDO LLORENTE in the 85th min & nearly scored another in extra-time. But Atletico de Madrid held out the home side most of the game & after DIEGO FORLAN opened the scoring in the 10th min from an Aguero pass, & later TIAGO scored the second in the 80th min after coming on. Resuming, a well deserved win for Atletico who apart have more chances & were not given a clear penalty in the 2º half, in which the Bilbao defender was saved from a Red Card.
The bad news for Atletico was the strained knee injury to Sergio Aguero that we all hope is´nt to serious for the Madrid Club.
