TRANSFERS RUMOUR 2010: DAVID LUIZ OF BENFICA & DAVID VILLA OF VALENCIA CF IN THE FOCUS

The left-back position needs to be reinforced at REAL MADRID, no one who has followed the Club the season doubts that it is currently an area which can be exploited & has been effectively by opposition teams. To this effect, The Spanish Club has been scouting the International market for someone young & cost effective; one of those players is 23 year old defender DAVID LUIZ of BENFICA who is “exploding” this season in the Portuguese League. This has been openly acknowledged by Club Institutional & Public Relations Director Emilio Butrageño who comments that Madrid is attentive & following the situation, as picked up today in Sports daily "AS".

Like all players who differentiate themselves with good play, & causes “noise” to transcend his local boarders, the spectator - be they media or other Clubs - also take good note. This is the case of English Premier League Clubs Chelsea FC & Manchester United plus the Germans Bayern Munich who also see the potential in the player. Chelsea has already set an “exploratory” transfer price of 11 M€ which Benfica considers way below the “real” market worth of Luiz, which interpreted financially – with so many “wanna be´s” – will lead to a bidding process, something within the strategy of the Portuguese Club.

Said all this, one has to be conscious that it is normal around this period of the season to talk & write about potential transfers & “card swapping”. All is speculation, rumour & strategic moves by interested parties to find themselves the most effective positions to later defend their cases & make some money.

Stay tuned for developments.

On another front, FC BARCELONA has once again its eyes set on VALENCIA CF player DAVID VILLA, whose incorporation this season was foiled due to a “messy” negotiation process with the other pretender Real Madrid & the negative attitude of his current Club to sell in its moment. One can recall that Villa was daily front covers the past pre-season with speculation on the transfer possibilities to either of the mentioned Clubs.

This time around Barça wishes Villa to be the alternative & substitution for Thierry Henry & have, according to today’s front cover of Sports daily “Sport”, placed a figure of 40M€ as a transfer price. This is obviously to test the waters, but one can think that it is below current market value & that Valencia will want to wait to see how David Villa performs in the upcoming World Cup. An extraordinary performance by the Spanish International forward will increase his market worth & open up more options, as it is already known that Chelsea FC, Manchester United & Manchester City have been seriously following Villa for the last year.

Here is another case of staying tuned, as developments are sure to heat up in the coming months.
