ATLETICO DE MADRID managed to keep at bay RACING DE
SANTANDER who took advantage of the habitual loss of concentration
of Atletico to take this game 3-2, but lose the tie on aggregate 3-6 due
to the 3-0 Atletico victory in the 1º leg.
As with everthing associated with Atletico nothing is simple & a bit of
melodrama is always at hand. Racing put a chill up all Atletico fans
spines when defender VALERA scored an own goal in the 2ºnd min to
put Racing ahead. This bought back nightmare memories of a possible
comeback scenario that were swashed in the 8th min when Racing
defender MORATON scored an own goal to allow Atletico to equalize.
From here the usual dosis of missed chances on both sides with Atletico
taking the control of the game with JURADO scoring in the 51st min
to put Atletico into clear sailing mode. Things got better in a relative
way when Racing went down to 10 men mid-way through the 2ºhalf
when Cristian elbowed young Atletico striker Ibra.
However, as mention above, nothing is safe with Atletico & in the last
2 mins, Atletico lost total concentration & allowed Racing to scored
twice via XISCO (88th min) & TCHITE (90th min) to totally blimish
the performance of Atletico by lossing finally the 2º leg clash which
they had won up to the 88th min.
But, Atletico & its fans can sigh relief & have qualified themselves
for the Spanish Cup Final at the end of May against Sevilla FC.
