REAL MADRID: TO SACK OR NOT TO SACK COACH PELLEGRINI

Real Madrid has a huge problem, their Coach Pellegrini has no clear
idea of what he wishes his team to play, or having said this, hasn’t
the personality sufficient to apply his formula. Yesterday’s Spanish
Cup elimination was embarrassing, it wasn’t because the opponent
Alcorcon are a 2ºB Division team, it’s the way the team went about
it’s attempt to turn around the 4-0 score line deficit from the 1º leg
game.

You would expect that a pack “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium with
80,000 people there to support their team after a publicity
campaign done by the players
with the slogan “We Won’t Let
You Down
”, that the minimum a Coach should do is put from the
start your best possible team. Here is the VIDEO:

Words from MARCELO: “For the shake of our colours we
won’t fail”

That didn’t happen. Instead Coach Pellegrini left out Xavi Alonso,
Benzema, Sergio Ramos & Granero for M.Diarra, Gago , Raúl & Van
Nistelrooy (back from a 7 month injury), but this wasn’t the only
problem, the team was disorganized. M.Diarra & Gago are midfielders
that “destroy” the play & do not create the play, consequently how
could the forwards last night receive the ball? Real Madrid played
down the left flank giving the responsibility to defender Arbeloa
who is a RIGHT BACK! Where was Sergio Ramos? Apparently sanctioned
for a Red Card given to him last weekend, but the official Federation
notice had not come due to the long weekend holiday in Madrid, so
he could have perfectly played. Coach Pellegrini said during
post-match he did not know, but the Club told him in the morning,
so what happened? After 3 weeks of Raúl on the bench & with the
visible improvement in the teams play, why did Raúl start? The
Real Madrid Captain displaces Kaká from his natural position, not
to mention leaves Benzema out. Lastly, Higuaín was lost, lost on
the left side when he plays on the right & blocked by the saturation
of forwards who were stepping on each other all night.

But perhaps the "straw the broke the fans back" was the substitution
of Lass Diarra in the 2º half, which caused 80,000 people to scream
to Coach Pellegrini to leave the Club immediately. The Frenchmen
was the teams best player, changing him sent a signal that the idea
of turning the game around had vanished, so why should Madrid
continue trying? Real Madrid & its fans expect & insist that their team
go down dying if necessary. Some players & its Coach it seems do
not understand the more than 100 year philosophy of the Club & its
long tradition of magical Football nights were they came back from
the dead to win gloriously, & with bigger Clubs.

It is obvious that Coach Pellegrini has not the sufficient personality
to enforce what he wishes & is losing credibility on all the fronts:
crowd, media, directives & more dangerously with the players. His
policy of giving everyone a run, as to not “disturb” the “sacred
cows” is turning out to be a disaster. But worst of all is the constant
unexplainable tactical decisions, field placements, substitutions &
lack of direction that are precisely his job to solve. Quite frankly,
even laymen Football followers like SFS see clearly the mistakes
that one would suppose beforehand would be seen by a professional
Football Coach.

SFS dreads to say, & against its desire, that latest events point to the
fact that Real Madrid is too big a Club for Coach Pellegrini, that his
wish to translate the philosophy of his previous Club Villareal is a
failure & worst he hasn’t an alternative solution. Under this apparent
“truth” one could say that he should be sacked immediately before
the rest of the 2009-2010 seasons is ruined & thrown down the toilet,
right?

There are few problems:
1. There is no other substitute on the near horizon
2. The natural intern solution to Coach the team is Director General
Jorge Valdano, who categorically refuses to do so.
3. To sack Pellegrini, would mean to also sack Valdano who
recommended & hired him.
4. The signal send everywhere would be of complete failure

So what next?
1. The 10 days of International Friendly matches coming up will displace
the news headline & allow the tempers to calm down.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo will soon be back, & the hope is that with his
goals, the teams deficiencies will be covered up, while solutions
are found.
3. November 29 – if Real Madrid can defeat FC Barcelona in the
“classic”, everything will be roses again.

However, if not, I am afraid that Coach Pellegrini will be “booted
– out”
of the Club. There is no possible reason not to, as the dressing
room slowly begins to boil – Rául, Guti, Benzema, Granero, Drenthe,
Kaká - & will conspire to “boot – out” Pellegrini if the Club doesn’t.

What can only save Pellegrini? Winning!
