when this 2009-2010 season finishes,as stipulated in the Clubs rules
that no President serve longer than two terms. This has sparked
the start of an election campaign, which although unofficial, has
been brewing for sometime & now begins to show its true face.
Laporta will like to leave with his “man” (tbc) in the Presidential seat
& thus continue in the shadows with power like Russian Prime Minister
Putin. However, there is Sandro Rosell, ex-vice President & fierce
Laporta “enemy” & “rival” who is in the driving seat.
Like any election, it’s got more to do with marketing, promises &
hope creating than actual Football & Rosell has a possible “rabbit
up his sleeve”: CESC FABREGAS. The idea would be to have Cesc
tied up & thus be able to claim that if elected the Arsenal Captain
& Spanish International will be the “star signing” for next season
(see Sport).
There is still a ways to go until election time with many variables
in play ( how Barça does in Liga & Champions, if Cesc agrees to
be part of the campaign, if Arsenal sell, if another Club makes an
offer for Cesc…etc) that will heat up the Barça election process
as the D-day gets closer. But one thing will be sure, be prepared to
read a host of rumours on players & transfers as candidates attempt
to “buy the minds” of the Barça voter & every trick in the book
will be valid.
Here is a video of Cesc Fabregas last weekend against Blackburn;
one goal (missed chances) & four assists. In grand form &
demonstrating that with his 22 years of age is the “crown jewel”
of English Football at this moment.
