this afternoon after commenting in a press conference that the
Spanish Club is studying the possibility of incorporating 27 year
old Italian Club UDINESE Captain & Italian International midfielder
GAETANO D´AGOSTINO.
This afternoon we see via “AS” online edition that effectively
Udinese President Pozzo has said to Italian TV Sportmediaset that
negotiations are currently on course between his Club & Real
Madrid for D´Agostino with proximate meetings between agents
& Clubs in the next days. In fact a price has surfaced of 25M€,
which is exactly the same as given to Italian Club JUVENTUS
who have also shown interest.
One may figure that his manoeuvre by Real Madrid is to have an
alternative plan up its sleeve as their prime goal XABI ALONSO of
LIVERPOOL FC gets complicated everyday & been priced at 48M€
(+/-) by the English Club that virtually cancels this option.
However, this could be a divert tactic & a pressure strategy that
Real hopes will “soften” the Liverpool FC stand or at least
rationalize their negotiations.
Either way, if D´Agostino is chosen & signed over Xabi Alonso, it
will be a serious set back to Real Madrid - SFS opinion - who
understand that the “only” player perfect for their new project
is Alonso & that D´Agostino – although possibly a good player –
would be a reverse, or said another way, a "second choice" asset.
Plus, President Florentino Perez early comeback promise & policy
to bring in more Spanish players would also suffer a reverse that
will lead to domestic criticism.
One can understand that from 48M€ for Alonso to 25M€ for
D´Agostino there is a significant difference & if both players share
certain characteristics then there maybe justification for the
Italian option. However, many consider that Xabi Alonso is the
last piece missing of the jigsaw & without him there is a danger
that the “new Real Madrid picture” may not work next season.
If this is true, Real Madrid should do whatever it takes to get Xabi
Alonso over, if Cristiano Ronaldo & Kaká are our references.
Let’s stay tuned on how things develop over the next days; Xabi
Alonso hasn’t been eliminated as mentioned this afternoon by
Football Director Miguel Pardeza from the equation. But this new
development is interesting & does lead to debate.
