due to the foiled transfer attempt weeks ago with Valencia CF &
the signing – although not officially confirmed as yet – of KARIM
BENZEMA by Real Madrid, FC BARCELONA has gone knocking at the
“door” of Villa to convince & shut a deal with the player so
he can end up playing at “Camp Nou” next season. The Barcelona
based Sports daily “Mundo Deportivo” report that Barça Football
Director Txiki Begiristain flew to the Spanish region of Asturias
yesterday to have lunch with David Villa & his representative José
Luis Tamago to shut a deal. All reports indicate that there is an
agreement between FC BARCELONA & DAVID VILLA & that all that
is now needed is the OK from VALENCIA CF.
This is the difficult part , as FC Barcelona has asked David Villa to
publicly acknowledge & solicitate that he wishes to go to Barça &
thus force the situation at his Club Valencia who have already said
that Villa is not for sale. This way negotiation at a Club level can
begin & hopefully finish in good port for all the parties concerned.

So they renew Eto'o's contract and then they seal the deal with Villa?
Two questions. Is it financially advisable to do this and second who is going to get the playing time. I think most people would say Villa is the higher quality player but surely Eto'o is too talented to just let him rot on the bench?
Or is Barcelona thinking of maybe selling Eto'o in the future which is why they extended his contract. So that he wouldn't leave for free.
FC Barcelona management works in mysterious ways.
I believe FCB hope to finally get rid of Samuel Eto´o, that is still there plan.
The contract extension was a tactic to stop Eto´o´s representative "spilling the beans"
