An interesting piece on “Football Finance” has appeared this
afternoon on the digital edition of local sports media “AS”.
They cite the University of Navarra (Spain) & their Economic
Department who have just released a study indicating the
player, Club & Coach with most media pulling power in the
World, using last season’s indicators

In the player category FC BARCELONA player LEONEL MESSI
overtakes new REAL MADRID player CRISTIANO RONALDO as the
most “powerful” media attracting player in the World. Using various
World business indicators ( press, Internet, TV, merchandising,
radio…etc) a points table was elaborated with the following results:
1. Messi 21,9 pts
2. C.Ronaldo 21 pts
3. Kaka 14, 9 pts
4. W.Rooney 11, 9 pts
5. F.Torres 11,4pts
In the Clubs category, FC BARCELONA is considered the “most
powerful Club in the World” media wise. A table was elaborated
with various World indicators ( sports achievement, titles,media
exposure,player importance, etc) with the following results:
1. FC Barcelona
2. Manchester United
Finally in the Coach category, MANCHESTER UNITED Manager/Coach
SIR ALEX FERGUSON takes the Nº1 position. A similar table was
elaborated following the criteria of the other categories with the
following results:
1. Sir Alex Ferguson 36, 2 pts
2. J. Guardiola 24, 7 pts
3. G. Hiddink 22, 06 pts
4. J .Mourinho 21, 09 pts
As you can see FC Bareclona dominates in most areas, thus crowning
their exceptional season 2008-2009.
