Victor Valdes has been for many years the Nº1 goalkeeper of FC
BARCELONA, he won the “Zamora” (title given to the goalkeeper who has
least goals scored against him in a Spanish League season) in 2005 & has been
one of the least scored goalkeepers ever since. His President Joan Laporta has
said that for him, Valdes is the “Best goalkeeper in the World”. The player
finishes his contract with Barça next year & both have began the process of
negotiations to extend the contract to remain at Camp Barça, both parties are
happy with each other & things look fine. That’s what it all seemed until
recently as during this week news has surfaced that now there are frictions. So
what happened?
Victor Valdes has contracted a new representative to guide his career, Gines
Carvajal, a real “shark” that also runs the careers of other Football
personalities: Raul, Salgado, Fernando Morientes & Real Madrid Coach
Juande Ramos. Until recently he also managed Iker Casillas before the latter
decided to go with the representative of F1 Spanish driver Fernando Alonso.
The new manager of Victor Valdes claims that his player deserves to get paid
the same amount as Real Madrid goalkeeper IKER CASILLAS, seeing he is at
the same level & that Barça President claims is the “Best Goalkeeper in the
World”. Of up their sleeves in case Valdes & his manager decide to plant
themselves, not move an inch in their demands & assert the money or say
goodbye.
JUVENTUS President Cobolli Gigli has said that his goalkeeper GIANLUIGI
BUFFON is on sale, plus the Italian National keeper has expressed that he
desires to play outside of Italy: 1+1= possible FC Barcelona interest. But there
is more, Barça also has in mind other options like VILLAREAL keeper DIEGO
LOPEZ who has been recently called up to the Spanish National Team & has a
contract release clause of 35M€, plus CHELSEA FC goalie PETR CHEC is on
their list along with ALMERIA goalkeeper DIEGO ALVES.
All of the sudden World Class goalkeepers “flood” the market & give FC
Barcelona leverage power in its negotiations with Valdes, apart from real &
feasible options of signing an already proven & experienced goal stopper
with guarantees. How will Valdes fight back? For the moment Victor Valdes is
not commenting a single word on the case & is concentrating on training hard
allowing his representative to be his only spokesperson. SFS has a feeling that
Mr. Carvajal (representative) is playing the old negotiating game of setting a
maximum for his player & then begin the work in which both parties find a
middle ground, a position that if found will be better than the conditions Valdes
now currently enjoys, that is for sure.
However, Valdes must be careful, tighten too much the rope & it will break,
loosen too much & it will be weak, finding the middle “tension” will be the
secret & that will have to be gained without making FC Barcelona angry &
“pissed off”, because out there in the market are “real” World Class
goalkeepers & all willing to happily play for FC Barcelona.
What would you do? Pay Valdes what Casillas owns? Is Valdes on the same
level? Sell?
