SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2008 / 09 - ROUND 27 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Lots of goals & lots of comebacks in a great Round 27 of the Spanish
1º Division. Lets get straight into the round-up as there are plenty of

scorers to talk about, details & images.

Yes, Diego Forlan started this time from the beginning & ATLETICO
DE MADRID
cameback & defeated Diego Lopez (Villareal goalie) -
VILLAREAL 3-2 to get back into European positions & back into

contention for a possible Champions League position next year.

The first half can be summarized by just saying DIEGO LOPEZ. The
Villareal goalie is in excellent form & stopped a Forlan penalty in the 5 min
& 8 more shots with GOAL written on the ball. The frustration was such that
Villareal got ahead in a counter-attack in the 18th min via
FERNANDEZ.

The 2ºhalf saw Villareal go even more ahead with its second in the 52th min
via CANI, then the comeback by Atletico began when finally Lopez was

beaten by SERGIO AGUERO.

In the 65th min Venta for Villareal was sent off with a Red Card & Atletico

took control. DIEGO FORLAN "smashed" in his teams second in the 81st
min.

The winner came in the 83rd when ANTONIO LOPEZ ( above) headed
for his teams third. Atletico could have gone ahead further but Lopez &
missed chances stopped that outcome. Great & very needed win for

Atletico as they put their mind on one objective: get into Champions
positions

REAL SPORTING DE GIJON won 3-2 DEPORTIVO in a match full
of penalties. LUIS MORAN scored first for Sporting in the 49th min

which was followed by BARRAL (above) who converted a penalty
that was´nt. Deportivo reacted via SERGIO who scored a penalty in
the 66th min, but the comeback was frustrated when Sporting
JOSE
ANGEL
scored a brilliant free-kick in the 71st min. Another penalty

was called & RIKI converted in the 87th min for Deportivo.

Sporting keeps out of danger for the moment & Deportivo gets out
of Euro places.

RACING DE SANTANDER thrashed NUMANCIA to put them looking
at the abyss of relegation with a 5-0 victory. The job was done all in the
1ºst half with goals from SERRANO (15th & 44th m), LUCCIN (27th min),
& ZIGIC (32nd & 39th min).

REAL BETIS & OSASUNA finished in a 0-0 draw that has the former
close to the relegation area, in fact, Betis fans are furious with their
coach for his "conservative" tactics today.

The revelation side MALAGA gave SEVILLA FC a fright as the latter
had to make a couragous comeback to finish the match with a 2-2 draw.

The first half was all Malaga with SALVA ( above) scoring twice in the

18th & 31st min.

KANOUTE began Sevilla´s comeback with his goal in the 74th min
& LUIS FABIANO drew in the 84th min.

ESPANYOL made a grand comeback in the 2ºhalf with just 10 men
to draw with MALLORCA 3-3. The first half saw Mallorca get ahead

via a free kick from ARANGO in the 39th min. Then the 2ºhalf was
crazy with see-saw action & goals galour, starting with CALLEJA in the
57th min for Espanyol who drew.

Then SANTANA for Mallorca scored in the 60th min & JURADO in the

71st min to get Mallorca ahead by 2 goals. BUT, Espanyol comeback with
goals
from DE LA PEÑA in the 73rd min & NENE in the 83rd.

Gutsy game from Espanyol who remain however last & fight to avoid
relegation.

VALLADOLID defeated 1-0 GETAFE to send the latter very close to the

relegation zone. It was a relatively boring match with little occasions, that
CANNOBBIO managed to give Valladolid the victory in the 87th min.

FC BARCELONA maintains its 6 point advantage over Real Madrid
& shrugs of the pressure after defeating ALMERIA away 0-2 with
both goals coming from young BOJAN KRKIC in the 53rd & 56th
min.

The score could have been higher have it not been for the incredible
saves of Almeria goalkeeper DIEGO ALVES
