The Spanish Cup effort is "hurting" ATHLETIC DE BILBAO as
they went down away to VALLADOLID 2-1. Valladolid Captain
VICTOR scored both goals for his team in the 38th min via a penalty
& in the 58th min. For Bilbao ORBAIZ scored the consolation goal
in the 65th min.
SOLDADO (above) scored the equalizer for GETAFE in the 25th min
after ESPANYOL got ahead early via IVAN ALONSO in the 7th min.
Final result: 1-1. Espanyol are still in trouble in the relegation zone.
VILLAREAL returned to win 2-1 lower placed NUMANCIA.
Villareal player ROSSI did a cracker of a match with two goals
in the 15th min & 67th min. Numania did a respectable game even
though they lost, they scored via ARANDA in the 39th min.
DEPORTIVO were halted in their upward classification path by
MALLORCA who are fighting tooth & nail to get out of the relegation
zone. Deportivo got ahead in the 56th min with a goal by ADURIZ,
however in the 77th min VERDU converted a controversial penalty
to equalize. Final result: 1-1
MALAGA won after a great comeback against ALMERIA to win
3-2. Almeria dominanted the 1º half & scored two goals via
UCHE in the 25th min & NEGREDO in the 44th min. Then Malaga
began the comeback with goals from LUQUE in the 48th min &
SALVA (above) with two in the 64th min & 72nd min
ATLETICO DE MADRID finally won a game in 2009 away to
RECREATIVO with a 0-3 scoreline. Atletico new Coach Abel did
not seem to change things - or at least it seemed to SFS - but may
have work the psychological aspect.
A sloopy match by both sides, were Atletico took its opportunities.
First goal was from AGUERO in the 2nd min, then DIEGO FORLAN
scored twice - 27th & 34th min.
The bad news for Atletico was the injury to Forlan in the second half
that may keep him out a few weeks. Big loss indeed, with Champions
around the corner!
FC BARCELONA won again 3-1 against REAL SPORTING that held
out well under the circumstances. Barça is a well tuned machine that
basically drives the opposition team crazy. Players like Alves, Iniesta, Xavi,
Messi ...etc, are just to good & frustrate sufficiently to open the gaps to
exploit.
SAMUEL ETO´O continues to build up his personal goal tally with two
goals in the 22nd & 39th min, to take it to 21 goals this season ( from 21
games!). DANI ALVES also got into the act with a pile driver in the 65th
min. Sporting got a consolation goal via KIKE MATEO in the 68th min who
just got on the field, a good prize for trying their best tonight.
Comfortable win for Barça who are unstoppable.
Surprise win for last placed OSASUNA who defeated VALENCIA 1-0
& with the 3ºpoints escapes the relegation zone. The goal of MIGUEL
FLAÑOS in the 57th min was enough. Valencia tried hard to get back
but the Osasuna defence stood firm.
