SFS FLASHBACKS: ATLETICO DE MADRID & THE 1974 EUROPEAN CUP FINAL

The scene is the following. It´s extra time in the 1974 European Cup
Final
& ATLETICO DE MADRID are playing BAYERN MUNICH.
Luis Aragones, ex Spanish national team Coach & then Atlético player,
puts Atlético ahead from a brilliantly taken free kick & set the Spanish
team onward for their first ever European Cup title. Then in the last
minute, Schwarzenbeck tried his luck & the ball slipped pass Atlético
goalkeeper Reina – father of Pepe Reina now at Liverpool - & into the
back of the net.

This goal equalized the result 1-1 & forced a repeat of the final.

Never have Atlético de Madrid been so close to glory. In the repeated
match Atletico lost 4-0.
