LA LIGA: HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY!

Local Sporting newspapers “As” & “Marca” has brought to our attention
this interesting Spanish Football historical fact. It was 80 years ago today,
the 10th of February of 1929, that the National League Championship
kicked off, in which it is today called the Spanish 1ºDivision League or
most popularly known as “La Liga”.

It started with 10 teams: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic de Bilbao,
Atletico, Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Real Union, Arenas de Guecho, Europa
& Racing de Santander. The first ever Champion was FC Barcelona, but
the team that has the most titles is Real Madrid with 31 Championships,
of which their “take-off” happened with the arrival of Alfredo DiStefano
in the late 50s.

This Saturday will be the 2,443 Round that has been celebrated since the
beginning of the Spanish Football Championship.
