SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND 27 /2008 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Two games played tonight in Round 27 of the Spanish 1ºst Division
- La Liga - with both Madrid teams in action with mixed results.

REAL MADRID went into tonights game with certain tension
after being knocked out of Champions & the teams coach Schuster
being questioned. The best way to cure any doubts is with a win over
a dangerously 5th placed ESPANYOL with a 2-1 scoreline.
Espanyol started well with the first goal thanks to VALDO ( above)
in the 28th min, thus setting in doubts within the home team.

Then Real began to regain control of the reigns & unsettle the
opponent, until Argentine forward HIGUAIN ( above) equalized in
the the 42nd min & allowed his team to go into the dressing room with
certain calmness.

It was´nt until the 72nd min that the "grid-lock" was broken when
a penalty was rightly given to RAUL who took the penalty himself
& put his team ahead to eventually secure the for his team the 3º
points.

This puts the pressure back onto Fc Barcelona to win tomorrow if they
do not wish to see Real open the points gap further in the classification
table.

One step forward & two steps backward, thats the
ATLETICO DE
MADRID
story all season as they lost away from home tonight 2-1
to a good REAL ZARAGOZA side that desperately needed the
3º points
to stay clear of the relegation zone.

The 1ºhalf saw Atletico start well & confidently with SIMAO (above)
scoring a fantastic outside the box in the 25th min. But destiny can
be cruel, it is usually with Atletico, as Atletico defender PABLO scored
an own goal in the 34th min to allow Zaragoza to equalize.

Atletico attacked from then on, but the excellent game from
MATUZALEM ( back from injury & pictured above), OSCAR &
goal keeper CESAR halted the Atletico march. The missed chances
threathened to comeback to haunt the side, & it did when
Zaragoza was awarded a penalty that was transformed DIEGO
MILITO in the 73rd min that put his team ahead.

Sergio Aguero had the chance to equalize close to the end with his
individual play, but his unselfish back pass to Forlan was not taken
advantage & that lead to the final whistle with a win to Zaragoza.

Three vital points to Zaragoza, another blown opportunity by Atletico.
