EUROPEAN CUP FINAL 2010 IN MADRID

UEFA has announced that the mitical Real Madrid stadium "Santiago
Bernabeu" ( below) will host the final of the European Cup in 2010,
as published by "AS".
It will be the first time that a final will be played on a Saturday & has
won over the "new" Wembley Stadium in London.

The last time that the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium hosted a
European Cup final was in 1980, that is, 30 years ago ( taking
2010 as the next final). Good news for Spanish Football & fans
overall.

UEFA has not yet announced the venue for the 2010 CL final. The decision is due some time in March. I did see a report in As where they claim to have a source, but none of the other media have repeated the news. Given their reputation I wouldn't be surprised if they were making it up.

What do you think of the final being played on a Saturday rather than a Wednesday?

I'd be surprised if the Bernabeu won ahead of Wembley but then again I find it very surprising that the Bernabeu has not staged the final since 1980 - considering how good a venue is. I've also heard an official decision is not due till March so I'd hold fire with this one till then.
