ATLETICO DE MADRID took a giant step forward last night in the
1º leg of the UEFA Cup pre-qualifying games against Serbian team
VOJVODINA. The Spaniards put in their best game to date for this
new season with a stunning 3-0 victory that gives them a great goal
advantage for the 2º leg clash in Serbia. If things go according to the
script Atletico practically assured its return to European Football with
last nights performance & win
Atletico lined-up its "gala" team, which included the much talked
about signnings, & began strong. In the 36m, new Captain MAXI
RODRIGUEZ scored the opening goal with a firm shot inside the
box. Maxi is an important player for Atletico that gives the team drive,
up front power & leadership.
The Serbian team reacted defensively & created a "wall of defenders"
in order to minimize the possible damage. The Atletico defence played well,
the midfield operated fine & the up front combination of FORLAN &
AGUERO was fabulous flight all night.
So much so, the DIEGO FORLAN cracked in the 2º goal in the 61 min to
lift the roof of the staduim.
Atletico had "cracked" the Serb defence & Argentine star AGUERO
got his deserved award scoring his teams 3º goal in the 69min & thus
sentencing the game, & perhaps the qualifying round overall.
Although the whole team played fantastically, special mention much go
out to the midfield players RAUL GARCIA & MANICHE, who took control
& dominated throughout the game.
Good vibrations Atletico fans, SFS witnessed a good team that promises
big things. Lets hope so!
Leave you with the VIDEO of the goals
Lastly, REAL BETIS defeated REAL ZARAGOZA in the final of
the "Ramon Carranza Trophy" in a penalty shoot out: 4-3. The game
ended in a 1-1 draw, thanks to goals from Betis player RIVAS &
Zaragoza forward SERGIO GARCIA.
Both teams looked good throughtout the game, specially Real Betis who
have improved dramatically under new coach HECTOR CUPER.
