SPANISH FOOTBALL NEWS - MALLORCA..., CICINHO, QUARESMA, MOTTA & MISTA

Interesting friendly match to begin today´s quick news round up,
with yesterdays game between MALLORCA & BAYERN MUNICH
in the "City of Palma Trophy".
Mallorca defeated the Germans 3-0 with goals from Webo, Guiza &
Victor. Good pre-season for Mallorca who seem to have more fire
power up front this season.

According to "Sport", English club LIVERPOOL has made a 10M€
offer for REAL MADRID defender CICINHO. The Brazilian is not
winning over coach Schuster & may have difficulties retaining his place.
Until recently, the club in the front seat to gain Cicinho´s service was
AC ROMA, but the English offer is much higher. Stay tuned!

Here´s a good one. OPORTO has put a price
tag of 40M€ for its player QUARESMA.
They know that REAL MADRID see him as
an option if the Robben operation fails & have
lifted the price.

SFS reminds you that when Atletico de Madrid
was negotiating for the player, the price was 22M€

According to"Sport", three Italian clubs are interested in
FC
BARCELONA
player THIAGO MOTTA, they are INTER,
MILAN
&
JUVENTUS. They all see him as an "economical" choice with a
good quality/price ratio.

Lastly, LEVANTE wishes to have on loan this season ATLETICO
DE MADRID player MISTA, however the player is reluctant to
leave. His place in the team has been complicated by the arrival
of the new signnings & may have to consider this option if he wishes
to play consistently this season.

Cicinho is a tricky one - personally I always prefered Ramos as a right back since he is so good at crossing the ball, he's fast and very fit and can defend - so I'm please about what Shuster has done.
The real question is who I would choose Salgado or Cicinho.
Cicinho has a couple of terrible games at the end of last season after he got back from injury; in the end he caused us to conceed goals and Capello took him out of the game. He is also 27 now and it's not clear whether his game is going to develop further.
Despite being 31, Salgado still looks really fit and makes a more reliable understudy for Ramos, but not as threatening in attack as Cicinho.

I continue to hold that Cicinho is a very talented and under-rated player. He's remarkably good at moving the ball up the right line and feeding crosses - in 2005-06 he was begining to find his form, and injuries paused that development. but imagine his crosses being picked out by van Nistelrooy: that would be a serious threat (all of which would hinge on Cicinho finding his form again).

Though Salgado is certainly the better defender, and I fully agree that Ramos should hold the starting right back position, I think that Cicinho could add depth and should be tried out as a right winger (not that Madrid is especially lacking in right wingers either).

I think the biggest problem for Cicinho will be Schuster. From what I've seen, he's attempting to create a more Arsenal-minded attack - short passes and a focus on the middle of the pitch, taking the defense head on and weaving through, rather than attacking from the wings and crossing in. That's not Cicinho. In fact, that's not Reyes either, which might explain why Madrid was willing to watch him go to another team.

I like Cicinho, and I don't want to see him go, but I doubt there's a place for him in Schuster's plans. It's true that he was started and saw a decent amount of playing time in the Russian Railway series, but i think that's tactical - a way to show him off to other clubs, make them think he's wanted, so that Madrid can raise the price tag. We'll have to wait and see!

Its relative. If Real lose the five straight matches, there wont be a Schuster to worry about... lets hope for Real Fans that doesnt happen.
Cheers

I'm a Liverpool fan and would love to see Cicinho go to Liverpool.
