CROATIA with a 2-1 win - own goal by Spanish defender
Pablo; free kick from Pernia & an excellent last minute
goal by "The Kid" Torres.
But don´t let the scoreline fool you, it was a tough match
against a very serious side that also missed its chances.
The starting line up for Spain was:
REINA
SALGADO-PABLO-PUYOL-PERNIA
JOAQUIN- XAVI - X.ALONSO-REYES
RAUL- VILLA
lots of new faces & it showed. There was unusual
misunderstandings between Pernia & his teammates, its
natural, he has just joined the side & its his first cap. The
Croatian side utilized this & attacked via that flank, the pressure
was so, that Spanish Defender PABLO accidently scored an own
goal from an attempt to header the ball away.
From here Spain reached the goal area but just could´nt put it
together.
The 2ºhalf saw somemore chances with a more attacking
look ( Torres, Garcia...came on) & that set up a free kick which
was transformed by PERNIA, bouncing off a Croatian
defender. This put some wings into the Spanish team & gave
Pernia the confidence in his play, & began co-ordinating well
with the rest of his teammates.
Later on, Spain was awarded a penalty by shirt grabbing of
Ramos in the goal square. Fernando Torres took the penalty
to have it saved by the Croatian keeper.
Spain regained its game & in the last minute of play,
FERNANDO TORRES side-tracked 2 defenders to make
up for his earlier mistake & scored the winning goal.
The finishing team for Spain ended up as:

TORRES - L.GARCIA
Tough match , a strong ( & unlucky) Croatian side , which
gave Spain a great measurement of how they are developing.
My only lingering worry, is Spain´s lack of goal power, or said
in another way, lack of goal definition.
